- I have always been a poor painter! But I recently wanted to try using Moosejaw's tutorial video to do a patina paint job of my own. I'm doing a Proline Power Wagon cab for one of my rigs and this was a great time to dive in.

You did great on this. If you didn’t know already, hear up the spray cans in hot water to up the pressure and make it dry quicker. Plus the paint will go on much smoother.
Yeah like Wes said,... NOT sitting in front of the heat gun on the bench while you find your tack rag. Ask me how I know.

Everything looked good and I think you did great! The only part that made me cringe was that you didn't put anything down on your deck mate.. at least some cardboard! Lol. Also could you throw a link up to that turbo also? :)

I'm proud of you Josh. I dislike painting more than anything else about this hobby except paying someone else to do it. I discovered patina paint jobs about a year ago and found that I can't screw one up. So I took all of my messed up bodies and did patina on the outside. Success!

Turned out great! Those Tamiya weathering kits are awesome. You're better off ditching the applicator they come with and pick up a makeup sponge variety pack.

If JConcepts bodies came pre-painted... MooseJaw is a great teacher, but he can't teach them all. Just kidding, It looks great. I especially like the exhaust soot. Nice touch.

Very nice! I just did my first weathering on a pw cab also. One thing to check out of you do it again is mechanical pencil on all the body lines adds a noce touch
I think it looks pretty good. Do an acrylic black wash over the body and it'll bring out more details. 👍👍

Certainly looks good enough to go beat on the rocks! (That’s a compliment) as I mentioned before none of my paint jobs are perfect and it’s just proof that I did it! Cool video Josh.
If Josh can make a patina body look good, then anybody can. I guess I have no excuse not to do it now.
I would say your a painter now! LOOKS AWESOME
You can also use an acrylic clear (Rust-Oleum) to cause the paint to "lift" and flake slightly. Gentle wet sanding will make it look like scale paint peel

It looks really cool! Matt better give you some compliments on this effort! I saw zero foam used and the only thing close to orange was the rust! Great job and thanks for recording all that, I know that slowed the whole process down!

After watching Moosejaw's video I gave the salt trick a try. I bought both sea salt and kosher salt to test with and liked the results with kosher much better. Made the rust spots look flakier
Pretty damn good and it was all you! 👍 A lot of these techniques come from the scale model world. I have also used liquid mask, applied with a sponge, and it gives a little bit more control on where you apply the chipping/rusting effects. I also use a technique with hairspray(!) that gives amazing results.
Yeah an unlimited number of techniques to learn… but I doubt I’ll do any more! 🤷🏻♂️

This is great content Josh. I’ve wanted to try the salt method, I even watched Joe’s tutorial, but was always hesitant as I’m more mechanically/electronically inclined. I’m encouraged to try now. I have an origin body I’m going to use.
