When Wind Waker was released, I absolutely hated the art style. I really wanted something much darker but it has the most brutal ending of any Zelda game. Did not see that final blow coming when I did finally play it.
It’s funny I thought the same thing too. I hated the art style so much especially after seeing some concept Zelda videos of Link and Ganon fighting and they looked like GameCube versions of Ocarina of Time. Damn art style made Link look like a Power Puff boy. I said he was the Power Puff girls’ little brother. I love Zelda so I decided to give it a shot and ended up enjoying it a lot. The animation eventually grew on me but the game was very good
Even though GoldenEye showed that console FPSs could be done well on consoles and was more revolutionary for that, its spiritual sequel Perfect Dark really elevated the mechanics and features to new levels that still surpass modern FPSs in certain areas. Its mission enemies are still some of the most satisfying in any FPS; they can react in different ways - making each encounter with them unpredictable to some degree - and can have permanent injuries such as limping after being shot in the leg. In multiplayer, the AI is also very impressive, with bots you can customize including their appearance and behavior and can even give objective-specific commands to if they're on your team. Weapons and even your fists have interesting secondary functions that make them some of the most unique in gaming, such as disarming enemies or using a gun as a turret that can stick to surfaces. Missions objectives aren't merely "go to the nav point and press the action button" but instead require thought, exploration, and experimentation and increase in number with each difficulty level, adding replay value. There are tons of unlockables like cheats and multiplayer characters (that you get by playing at your own pace; no monetization or FOMO!). There are extra modes outside of the campaign and multiplayer such as an explorable hub area that has completely optional tutorials that you can do in any order at any time. The player is always in complete control: no unskippable cutscenes (except for one post-mission scene that only lasts a few seconds), QTEs, forced slow walking sequences, or forced turret sequences. There are so many settings that you can choose specific weapon pickups in multiplayer and choose which songs can play there. There's so much attention to detail that there are rotating 3D gun models with scrolling descriptions in the regular pause menu with separate descriptions in the firing range; and despite these effects, the game is so lightning fast that you can go from a mission to a multiplayer match or vice versa in seconds. Missions have some degree of optional stealth; and if you fail an objective, you can keep playing. You often start with something like a pistol and find better weapons after spawning; and you aren't limited to two weapons at a time and could instead carry as many unique weapons as you find but with limited ammo each, with a quick (radial) menu letting you switch between them relatively easily. The hit detection is so good that you can shoot homing rockets mid-flight or dropped grenades or mines on the ground. PD is still the highest-rated FPS of all time.
I wish at least some FPSs were still made like this. I'm sick of almost everything being two-weapon shooters with enemies that barely react to being shot, generic and repetitive objectives, no bots in MP, often no unlockables or extras outside of MP stuff, and an emphasis on monetization and FOMO.
Splatoon was a game i didn't expect to changed my life forever.
At the time, part of me thought that Arkham Asylum was going to be a family-friendly game, as most superhero games were before then. Instead, we got one of the most tonally correct DC games ever, and I still live the Arkhamverse to this day

Yakuza Like A Dragon, making it a turn based RPG was a HUGE risk but it paid off big time and now it's creeping up there as one of my favourite games in the franchise and i daresay of all time because the Yakuza series is my favourite game series of all time

Yazuka is very fun and a perfect sandbox map.
That & not centering the story around Kiryu but with a brand new protagonist with Ichiban Kasuga were huge risks for RGG Studio.
@@Phanthief95 that paid off too i loved Ichiban, Saeko, Nanba, Adachi, Zhao, Joon Gi Han, they were all great characters

I was glad to see Jedi: Fallen Order, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Kingdom Hearts, and Batman: Arkham Asylum to be on this list. And also Wind Waker.

I'd definitely put Lies of P as well since it was the biggest surprise of 2023 gaming.

It's so weird how Guitar Hero never got remastered or remade for the PS5/Xbox Series, it would have been very successful. Even Fortnite started to emulate Guitar Hero mechancis in its Festival mode now
Midnight Suns deserved a spot here. Such a hidden gem.
Kingdom Hearts is my forte.
I played Resident Evil 4 on the Game Cube. I think it was the first M Rated game I owned.
I definitely have some Guitar Hero music on my iPod.
I was new to Zelda when Wind Waker came out and I didn't complain about the art style then.
I like exploiting some things in Sims like having outdoor things be put indoors. Just set the Outdoor thing somewhere and then add a wall around it.
I wish the 3D Metroid games were in 3rd person and had better controls than Other M.
Pokémon music is so iconic.

honorable mention: Final Fantasy 7 Remake- when it was originally announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake blew everyone's minds away since it had been so long since the OG game released that the fanbase was starting to lose hope that it was ever going to happen. and yet upon release it both disappointed fans and made them excited for what's to come. the most fatal flaw it had was being limited to only Midgar but the positive side of things did more than make up for it by expanding upon Midgar to the point where if you were to do everything there is to do you'd put in 50 hours or more and that's just the base game. and with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the horizon at the time of this comment by a little over a month and a half it's needless to say that Final Fantasy 7 Remake defied expectations and all the odds that were stacked against it at launch.

I am not surprised batman Arkham Asylum made this list. Until that one, comic book video games were hit or miss, usually miss, ESPECIALLY Superman 64.

Fallen Order reminds me SO much of The Force Unleashed. It was SO good, I LOVED/got emotional playing through the Order 66 sequence.
How did the first Western Fire Emblem games sell weakly?
For me it Has to be the dead space remake, leading up to the games release I was a little sceptical and hesitant about the game and wondering if it was gonna be any good or if it would live up to the expectations of the original, thankfully the game didn't disappoint and the dead space remake turned out to be one of the best remakes 2023 and is a prime example of what a remake should be.
Dead Island 2 should have been on this list.

Hear me out, Aliens Colonial Marines had a solid fucking campaign and some pretty intense moments, however, the bugs and glitches were so rampant that certain parts of the campaign were impossible to complete. I do wish it was for Xbox, but honestly, if the bugs and glitches weren't present in the game and the AI were a lot fucking better, I think it would have gotten a little more love from people.

I strongly disagree with WatchDogs 2. It was a horribly bland and very pandering game with it's cringy writing. It's in par with Rage 2.
Some real underrated games were Mad Max, Sleeping Dogs and 7 Days to Die.
Pokemon, batman, kingdom hearts, resident evil 4, and until dawn are the only good ones. The rest of these games are S H I T. Redo the F U C K I N G list mojoplays.
