I’m just happy it connects much faster now. Now with Onvif support I have a bunch of old Amcrest cameras I used with BlueIris before I upgraded to UniFi. 15Unifi cameras and now can repurpose a few Amcrest bullet cameras to get those blind spots around the house.
Great update - thanks for all the details! I think many hobbyists/prosumers will be frustrated to find the AI Port's PoE requirement blocks using ONVIF Wi-Fi cameras. Since the video data must flow through it for processing, that's a major limitation. The AI Port as a daisy-chain PoE device also adds cabling and mounting challenges. While you can mount multiple units near your head-end rack or use the included pole mount, I noticed there's also a rack-mount shelf option. But honestly, why mount it near the camera at all? That said, UniFi's strategy is smart--it ensures they profit when customers use non-UniFi cameras. Still, from a technical standpoint, a dedicated AI box or co-processor for multiple camera feeds (like some software-centric NVR's) would be far more flexible. Although, knowing UniFi, they'd probably overprice it and label it an "enterprise" solution! Really, they should just sell reasonably priced full-color night vision cameras. Most dealers and prosumers would happily stick to UniFi cameras and avoid these awkward workarounds. Occam's razor for the win!"
@@michaelmiller4834 That's encouraging. What is the data flow/processing model for the video data to be analyzed? I'm curious if there is added latency or if it is pulling a substream second feed from the ONVIF camera? Also, the physical form factor, including pole mount options, seems superfluous if the unit doesn't have to be placed in-line with the camera.
The 5.1 update looks like it will satisfy a lot of my wants! Thanks for running through that! I’m looking forward to a review on the AI Turret. It may be a blessing that I haven’t been able to get a G5 Turret yet 😉
@@DPCTechnologyClay I have a tough question, do you see drones getting into the space with ubiquiti because I see from an industrial and commercial point that it’s got ad hoc solutions in place. Ubiquiti not so much!
@@kristopherleslie8343 Do you mean drones meant for security or just to compete with DJI as a separate product line? A few years ago, a company previewed a security drone system with a roof-mounted base station that launched on motion detection for a bird's-eye view of the surroundings. Cool concept, but it faced big challenges: FCC licensing, safety and liability concerns (especially when crashes happen), plus the software and cost hurdles to make it viable. @@DPCTechnology Hmm, maybe even take it a step further during the comparison video and do an additional test adding those 3rd party cameras to UniFi with the AI Port after testing them natively with their own software. Clay thanks for all of your informative videos! Looking forward to incorporating ONVIF for some of my clients that have non Unifi cameras. Just curious if you've heard anything about the Unifi Viewports not streaming all 16 feeds. I have a couple customers that have more than 16 cameras and created custom Live Views to view all 16 plus toggle the remaining within the same sectors. Everything's been working great for several years and I believe a recent firmware from this Summer removed this capability. AI port will be phenomenal for updating existing UniFi cameras with LPR and facial recognition. I would like to add it to my doorbell and driveway camera.
I like that Ubiquiti is now looking at AI in different form factors, and even more so that they are including visible as well as IR LED's, giving the option for colour night vision. IR is good, but it is not ideal for recognising people etc. A lot of people make the mistake of calling IR black and white and it is far from tht. A reflective dark surface can look almost white in IR Vision. IR Night vision is like the old green IR night vision, just converted to gray scale. Maybe I shouldn't have bought the G5 Pro with the vision enhancer option and just waited for the AI turret..... Bloody Ubiquiti lol
Yeah I think a lot of folks are gonna be in that boat.. the good news is if u need AI in a spot or two u should be able to add it with the AI Port.. it's not cheap but the G5Pro is the perfect camera to add it to...

Probably for home use, but in a professional setting the labor will kill you and its pretty easy/cheap to plug in an in-line device. I have a feeling they will sell a lot of them. Especially if it's just a couple of nice cameras...
there are onvif cameras on the market available which are much better at low light than all unifi ones. for another example there is no thermal imaging camera available from Ubi, which is a must have for monitoring big, open fields. adding AI to one for example to detect 🔥 and people... great.
