  • We dug out two pits for our columns. They were difficult to dig and even worse to maneuver around but we made it work. A base was put down and tamped as well.

    Why weren't you worried about the soil kick out from the foundation wall in the second pit? It looks like you might have only left yourself 6" or so in from the wall and from what I've read you'd want to come out at a 45 angle, or do it in small (< 4') sections.
    Otherwise, great series! I'm glad I stumbled upon it as I'll be replacing a section of my foundation wall as well. :thumbs_up:

      Yes that is best practice to 45 it or step it. I didn't have enough room to do that. My soil seems to be very stable too. We are almost done with our last video so watch for that to come out

    The best place is local saw mill or a guy that has a portable saw mill. Or a rental from a shoring rental contractor. A lot if guys you 6x6 steel beems now. Expensive but compared to human life inexpensive

      @@appalachiandiy2415 working on my old house to it's cinderblock basement it's bowing in. building a 2x8 wall over it and planning to dig it out in spring probably going to build a beam across to support the weight. Hopefully I can push it back. Atleast the house has a decent concrete floor. I just don't want to dig it out and have it collapse so I believe a beam is a must. I'm going 28 feet.

    Never hse 4x4 or 6x6 for cribbing. Use hardwood cribbing. So much more but ....

    • @appalachiandiy2415
      @appalachiandiy2415  3 роки тому

      Yes, I address this in part 5 of the series. when I actually do the lift. there are beams and floor jacks in place as a backup in case of failure. If I were to do this full-time hardwood is definitely the way to go but the expense for a single project is alot

    Bro i have been lifting shit my whole life. This is not good work. The theory is sound but like copying a test but not knowing the information.
    1 never use crush and run. Use concrete at a 3-4 slump and vibrate.
    2 never use, or create percussion next to a failing foundation

    • @appalachiandiy2415
      @appalachiandiy2415  3 роки тому

      Could you explain "crush and run".
      As for percussion I'm guessing you're talking about the hammer drill in the pit. The wall next to me is sound. How would you recommend removal of hard clay without handtools taking forever to finish?
