Delegation Info 📰:
Delegation is a British R&B vocal group formed in 1976 by Len Coley, Ricky Bailey (lead vocals) and Roddy Harris. The trio was soon discovered by music producer-songwriter Ken Gold. In 1976, Delegation released their first single: "The Promise Of Love", taken from their debut album: The Promise Of Love, released on the State Records record label, failed to chart. The group's second single: "Where Is The Love (We Used To Know)", peaked at #22 on the UK Singles chart, and gave the group their first music chart hit, which led to their first Top Of The Pops TV show appearance- the first of three appearances on the TV show.
Ray Patterson replaced Roddy Harris later that year and the group released their third single: "You've Been Doing Me Wrong", which peaked at #49 on the UK Singles chart. The album's fourth single: "Oh Honey", a smooth ballad, gave the group their first US hit in 1979. This song reached #6 on the US R&B charts and #45 on the US Hot 100. A fifth single was released from the album: Someone Oughta Write A Song (About You Baby), and peaked at #45 on the US R&B chart. The album peaked at #84 on the Billboard 200 Album chart and #8 on the US R&B album chart.
Len Coley would subsequently the group and Bruce Dunbar replaced him. The group's second album: Eau De Vie, was released in 1979 (In the U.S., Eau De Vie was released as Delegation in 1980). This album turned out to be very successful, including the singles: "Welcome To My World" (#50 US R&B) and "Heartache No. 9" (#57 US Dance, #66 US R&B). The album peaked at #69 on the US R&B album chart.
In 1981, Bruce Dunbar left the group and returned to the US after their third album entitled Delegation II (1981). The album's lead single: "Twelfth House", failed to chart but the albums second single: In Love's Time", reached #54 on the US R&B chart.
They followed up their third album with the 1982 album: Deuces High. The album produced the lead single: "It's Your Turn", which peaked at #94 on the UK Singles chart. The group continued to perform through the end of the decade. With an ultimate change of members, through the addition of Texas born vocalist Kathy Bryant in 1983, thus becoming the first female member of the group.
In 1986, former group member Bruce Dunbar released the single: "Just One More Day In Galveston".
Rick Bailey reunited with Ken Gold, to form Euro Jam Records in the early 1990s, repackaging Delegation's earlier recordings into new compilation albums and reforming the group to release the album: Encore (1993), which was released with remixes in 1999.
On January 31, 2021, Ricky Bailey released a single title: "I Surrender".
In 2024, Ricky Bailey still performs live on stage as "Delegation Band Featuring Ricky Bailey".
