I'm so grateful for this channel and the potato guy too. I just played and beat a game with Gaul last night and for the first time in any of the games I not only won by a landslide but I got the #1 ranking of Augustus Ceasar with a score of 3711 which is by far my best ever.
Personally I think Monuments are the way to go if you are planning a samurai rush, not Theater Squares. Rush Feudalism. This is a "do not pass go do not collect $200" thing. Theater Squares require a diversion to Drama and Poetry plus you have to build the things when you could be building more settlers (and by extension, more monuments) and more warriors.
Yeah thats usually the play for civs that have a culture unit. I dont play that much Japan but I do play a lot of byzantium, and you go only monuments since theather squares take way to much investiment to be worth
But no theatre means less artifact, musical slots, etc. Sure they take more time and investment, but that pays off. Especially when the whole world is settled and making more cities for a 28 turn monument build just no longer makes sense.
@@stevenhetzel6483 you have plenty of time to make TSs after your samurai rush
😅loi
If you time terracota army well you can use it to heal your units after the early push and break the AI's tempo because while they produce new units you just keep going. If you dont want to time it, leave it one turn away from finishing and do it when needed
obviously, the content of this video is fire but the writing is unbelievable. so clever, creative and hilariously informative
11:29 missed a good opportunity for a Nanking reference here
lol
Confession time: I watch your videos now for the tongue in cheek humour more than the tips
Please more deepdives on the rarely played civs - it's exactly for them that I find the way you explain extremely motivating to finally try them out on Deity myself.
And if you count manually and because it was already mentioned at least 1x: Cree
My boy been cranking out the content
Thanks for this man, helped a lot.
I was the 700th like, too, awesome!
this was sick!!
1:16 there is a belief when you found a religion that gives you production equal to the adjency bonus of the holy site and its quite good over time especially with japan. And you get the +10 unit strenght within converted city border's tiles (that can adds up to the +5 strenght on costal tiles)
Than* ... Great content keep it up!
Poland!
Thanks, will do!
I just started playing civ 6 and started with Japan, so this guide is really helpful! Could you please consider making a video on how districts work and how to optimally use them? Love the content my friend
I don't think it is good to start with japan, because the way you'll place districts with them is completely different of any other civ in the game, I think rome is the best civ to start cause they are strong but their bonuses are very generic, so learning how to play with them will give you a good base on how to play with any other civ
@@GuilhermeSouza-ux4jq any other recs? Rome doesn’t interest me too much if I’m being honest. I played my first game as Gorgo and won a war but I was super isolated from every other civ and was behind on culture so I chose to restart.
@@orbit5311 Germany is very interesting, you can pull off some crazy districts shenanigans with their unique district hansa plus the bonus that allow them to build more district
@@orbit5311 and and one more tip always try to put your government plaza in the range of most cities possible so you can maximize the district adjacency bonus it gives
@@GuilhermeSouza-ux4jq Japan is the most useful civ for new players, u can get a +3/+4 adj districts by just putting them near each other, and gain combat strength near coasts
Rome on the other hand receives trading bonuses and free monuments, but on the other hand a better UU
This is one of the civ's I plan on learning besides china and Vietnam
"Only civ good at every victory type"
Cries in German and Nahua (Aztec)
If you haven't done Poland or Norway that would be awesome
10:47 Statue of Zeus can be considered a military wonder too. So there are two of them...
Probably only good for Gorgo tho tbh. Or if mongolia is on your fence.
I mean... temple of Artemis boosts archers, so... that one could be too.
I'm currently playing ad Japan and doing well. I'm keeping my science up while doing well domination-wise. I took out Kupe and his 3 cities--because I forward settled him--with my Sameri and catapults. In all, I lost one unit. He was weak, but since I enclosed him, he could only focus on his two main cities which made for great spoils of war. I demolished his new, crappy city and kept the good ones. With him gone, I might target Korea, but I have a geographically secure area with 13 cities so far, and room for 3 more. Plus, the terrain on my South-West is great for defending since an attacker would have to funnel troops through 2 cities surrounded by mountains and lakes. It would be a unit grinder for an evader. The Ottomans are my only decently positioned foe, but his closest city to me is WEAK. Yes, weak in all caps.
Maybe a Eleanor loyalty cheese explaination Can be interesting
Are you using a mod that shows you the potential bonuses when placing the map tacks or am i missing something?
Got a Febreze ad right after 8:17
That Kanye bit had me rolling
Another good option in the early game for a culture victory is to get a religion choosing the belief that doubles the bonuses of hero's reliques and religious reliques. That means more tourism, more faith...
Here for my daily dark roast and civ 6 content
lol noice
Civlifer is the roast master. Bruh always has me rolling.
appreciate it
Do the Cree next!
gorgo
Can you include the map, how many civs, and how many city states you use?
FYI Divine Wind is Kamikaze translated (Kami is God and Kaze is wind)
I finished playing Japan like a week ago and I got samuris so quickly like my gosh. I spammed out culture, and then spammed out samuris. I won a domination victory in 119 turns. It was a snakey island map so I getting that coastal bonus and 2 shotting cities it made me wanna nut, but I held it in😉. Anyway nice vid I also saw ur 1 shot city vid aswell with Japan.
2 shooting cities made you what??????

@@noahmilich4699 oh ok makes sense
Which mod shows all the details of the civs under their picture I am not seeing it in the mods. Also what mod reveals your future district placement bonuses? Thanks
banner in interface options. And the better map tacks mod
@@TheCivLifeR Thank you very much
Aside from the captions, does the video really elaborates the narration?
Yo this guy is funny af
usually I'm a russia or CHADragupta fellow. but lately mansa and teddy have been forcing my hand to make new win strategies. old habits die hard. but this time I'm ok with it.
How to get stronger samurai and then get tanks?
Playing Japan TSL East Asia I basically spammed settlers to unite the mainland and then I took Taiwan/South Sakhalin, conquered Korea and went from there. Just don't ask what happened in Nanking
I need this vid for the Byzantines!
gorgo
so what IS the BEST UNIT IN THE GAME? besides heroes and great people. strictly unique units to the civilization or common units. I think the conquistador is underrated. If you keep a religious unit next to one they get +10 and if you select crusade in your beliefs you get another +10 in enemy lands. grandmasters chapel and a +30 per turn by 50turns and spain becomes playable on any map lol.
30 faith*
Just watched a professional teams game of Japan getting destroyed by byzantium, altough the team with byzantium still lost because they were stupid
Please do Canada!
Please do Korea!
You can read, but you don't know ****.
Japan is the most versatile Civ in the game, yes, but playing Japan means to find paths to build districts that are 40% discounted or cheaper and adapting to the circumstances!!!
I.e. going for the Classical Monumentality Japan after discovering a Natural Wonder early:
Then you could go for two 50% Holy Sites (Era Score, Work Ethic), into two 40% Campuses (Era Score, Science for Stirrups) and a 25% Government Plaza, into two 40% Commercials (Magnus internals to Government Plaza City) ...
I always forget to plan for ruhr, and the one time I did remember I only left one tile open (because why leave more) and coal spawned on that tile
Kilwa is a lot better than Ruhr
@@caniblmolstr4503 only if you have the right City states. And both are better
@@caniblmolstr4503 There's no law saying you can only get one or the other.
@@wafercrackerjack880 But there is opportunity cost... Ruhr comes just after Venetian Arsenal which is hugely game changing on all maps other than Highlands
dont tell me what to do with my body pillow!
I would actually like to know how to play hungary.
i want gorgo!
how do you get a lone island for yourself.

Wanted to play Japan cuz Hojo is fine asf

Highlands map with Gaul and a ton of mines and such is a great way too go to. Eventually all my cities were producing 99% of everything in 1 turn. First comes the Oppidum and then the currency district then the rest don't matter lol. It was my first game where I got the rank of Augustus Ceasar with a score of 3711. It's all thanks to this channels advice along with that potato guy. I've been playing since Civ 3 but I've always been trash. They've really made me up my game.
i'd really like to see hungary
Hungary is cavalry, gold and emmisaries. Get gold. Get suz. Build a few heavy cav. Levy. Crush everyone with OP unique cav units and rented cheap upgrade Supersoldiers on crack. Possibly the best domination civ. Certainly top 3. It is best to go fast before enemy civs get upgraded walls and you have to move slow siege units into place. Because all you need is city state troops for early wars you can build infrastructure and wage war simultaneously which is awesome.

Good luck to Ukraine and that “Russian way.”

Japan having its feudal and modern culture being mixed.
Like Samurais and electronics is sure funny or idk im not from Japan so im immediately Inferior.
All I know Samurais being shall I say fancier Knights, because they would terrify you with their oni protective mask. So you would die before the battle even began if your will was as thin as a glass
'then tanks' when it should be 'than tanks'. Literally won't watch this and you shouldn't be trusted.
