    Found one of these today used for $10! Battery seems okay also, but even with a replacement down the line, it will still be worth it! Was able to use this to replace a TrippLite in my homelab, and move the other one to another area. Very impressed so far!

    Great unit. That's a great idea to have during the winter when storms hit cutting power.

      For situations where the storm cauts power you would need bigger batteries for longer run time. So a bigger one.

    Pro tip as your friendly IT professional: Get one of these for your networking equipment ONLY. Then you'll be able to use your laptop for hours and hours and hours. My firewall/router & 1 AP node & fiber modem pulls about 50 watts. So this size backup will keep that equipment going for many many hours.

    I just purchased a APC BR1500MS2, the letter S is important in this model number that means it is a pure sine wave unit. Although I trust APC we put an oscilloscope on the battery backup outlet and of course it was a true sine wave. Purchasing a unit with a modified sine wave is like feeding your pet bad pet food. I have very expensive equipment and only feed it a true sine wave. This S unit runs about $50 more than the other ones, I don't know why manufacturers are still making these with modified sine wave units, too many problems and can damage equipment.

      100% This. Given the often times minimal price differences, there is no real reason to NOT use a UPS that just delivers pure sine wave. Especially if the whole reason for purchasing a UPS in the first place is for the best interest of your equipment's safety/longevity. Again, in that regard, I can't see an reason to NOT use actual pure sine wave.

    So do you plug in the APC to the wall, and then plug your devices into that?
    I’m mostly looking for a safety net for power outages. Will this help?

    • @TD_JR
      @TD_JR 2 місяці тому

      You plug the APC into power - then plug your computer, monitor, modem, and router into the APC. The APC provides conditioned power to everything plugged into it - meaning that it evens out any lows or highs providing steady, clean, consistent power to your devices which may be even more important than the battery itself.

    • @Jakereviewsall
      @Jakereviewsall  4 місяці тому

      For something like that I would choose a power station type device to power them. Depending on your budget there are a ton of options for power stations that would give a lot more power. These are made more to keep your computer equipment safe and allow a proper shutdown and prevent surges but they are not really made to power devices for a long period of time.

    I have had seven of these exact units fail in the past 18 months. Apc used to be the go to battery back up for me. • @Jakereviewsall
      @Jakereviewsall  4 місяці тому

      You can use it for that but its not made to power tv's and lamps. For those I would look more into a power station type unit. These are more so you can safely get your computer powered off in time. Without spending time doing all the calculations I have no idea how long that stuff would run and each tv or lamp could be different too.

    Assuming you have it set to preserve battery shutdown after 5 minutes and your server bios AC state is set to 'Always On' or 'Last State' (dunno if relevant but just to be conscise).
    Also assuming you have the network cable of your server pass through the APC.
    Power came back (I have an independent way of knowing when power grid goes down and comes back up again) and I wanted to Wake On Lan Server 1 hour later which worked before installing the APC, but now it doesn't anymore and the office is 45 mins away....😑
    What do I need to change to get Wake on Lan to work again?

      You might need more, you will have to see what kind of watts and everything yours is pulling and then figure out which one. I know my gaming computer averages 700 watts during playing some games and this one is not quite enough for that computer. It has a 3090 ti but have to also count everything else too. • @Jakereviewsall

      it needs to be plugged in at all times, when plugged in it acts as a surge protector and bypasses the battery, once power is disconnected then the battery kicks in. Other than that you would only connect when you want to use it.

    Thanks Jake, great review. I saw your replies to some guys who asked you about a gaming PC with a 4090 / 4080. You have a 3090ti. I have a 4090 and my watts consumption while playing COD is ~480watts. So, are you saying that this model would not support a power outage to keep my PC running while playing COD and allow me to safely and quickly shutdown my PC? I am not planning to buy this and secure I will continue playing; I want to have a better power surge and be able to quickly shutdown my PC. Can I still get this one or would not be recommended? Which model do you recommend in my case? Thanks my friend.

    • @Jakereviewsall
      @Jakereviewsall  Рік тому +1

      This one is rated to handle it according to specs, the biggest issue is that these arent really made for a lot of the gaming systems these days drawing so much power, mine can spike into the 700 watt range when i tested and I popped one of them when it did. They are designed more for office and workstation type setups. I use mine mostly for the network these days, have my routers, modems etc plugged into it so I have internet still for hours to use with my macbook.

    • @Jakereviewsall
      @Jakereviewsall  Рік тому +1

      you would need to figure out your actual usage of the entire computer and then the rule I have been told 60% of the max apc wattage. My computer with a 3090ti and 1200 watt with everything else will blow this one.

    I have an older model of this UPS and managed to short out some of the transistors. They were burned beyond repair or recognition. I'd like to post a pic so perhaps someone can help me identify them and repair the unit. Does anyone have a schematic of this unit?? I'm not even sure if the things that fryed are actually transistors. I do know that they are located on the first heatsink on the control board, and I think there are others on the next 3 blades of the heatsink, but I don't want to damage the board further by trying to see them, as the space between the heatsink blades is quite narrow. Thanks.
