I like the reaction of vendors when you walk on their stuff, subtleties like that make a big difference for the immersion.
I was replaying BotW and tried talking to Purah by standing on the table, first she just kind of gets annoyed and says "can you get down from there?". But keep doing it and she makes a personal note that your sleep in the resurrection shrine has caused you to look down on others in attempt to annoy them.
I didn’t even know you could cut down signs, and yet some dev decided that it needed an overhaul.
I assumed you could, but never wanted to waste precious weapon durability. Now I wonder if you can repair them with recall?
Now fuse it to a weapon
Cutting signs has always been a thing in Zelda, in ocarina of time you can repair them by playing Zelda's lullaby after you cut them down (the same goes for majora's mask but with the song of healing).
@@ARUCARDFTEPES and @NeltittoS: yes, Recall should do to signs what Zelda's Lullaby & the Song of Healing did in previous games. Although I don't actually know if I'm complaining about nothing, because I haven't tested it yet.
The "overhaul" could have something to do with the fact that it can now be used in the construction of Ultrahand stuff or that it can now be fused to a weapon.
I found a subtle difference that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. In Kakariko Village, the inn and stores have a doormat that's supposed to say "WELCOME" in Hylian language, but the textures were erroneously mirrored in BotW. Even though barely anyone would notice, they corrected them in TotK so they're facing the correct side to match the Hylian alphabet.
I remember when I first walked on the shop keeper’s items at Kara Kara bazar and the lady just said “I will hunt you down” but I had no idea why she said it. I laughed so hard dude 😂😂
You know, it would be real cool if you guys had the ability to have an interview with the developers to ask them these questions of the subtle differences between breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom, and why they did it
the sound design in totk is in general better at simulating the weight of things
The foley artists for Tears of the Kingdom must have had a good time making all of those new sounds. Seriously, the game has fantastic sound design.
Hey didn't you comment on frosty is escaping?
I didn't know most of these because I'm a civilised Lonk that doesn't randomly vandalise signs, farms or shops
Super subtle. Like REAL subtle
I've found that the requirement to dive into Korok lilly circles is even more restrictive than that. A few times, I pressed the dive button and it still didn't count. It seems like it might be that if you're too close to the water's surface, it won't register as a proper dive. Maybe because it doesn't slash hard enough? Or maybe he doesn't have enough time to get into a full head-first dive position?
I love how the signs sound like they're hollow boxes when you hit them with your sword now. But losing the ability to read damages signs kinda stinks. I guess it probably has something to do with the fusion system, where cutting the sign turns it into a generic sign object to prevent issues once it's attached to something else.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio Yeah it's like it's no longer a sign and just an 'object to be thrown about or glued' :P
1:07 i genuinely thought the lily pad circles werent korok anymore in totk bc of this, but the mask still shook when i passed by them 😅
This is exactly what I thought might happen to people (especially those who never played botw -- yeah, don't ask why people are playing totk but not botw) when I noticed they didn't work without diving anymore
idk why but these are some of my favorite videos. no speaking, just vibes
sad the signs can no longer be read while on the ground
Literally unplayable
Alternate title: “14 Subtle difference in signs between Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Botw”
Several wooden signs were hurt for the making of this video
In my 600h of BOTW and 280h of TOTK, I never tried to cut any signs. Even if it's a staple of the Zelda series.
I'm glad to say I discovered #1 by myself. I think it's from spending too much time in Sheikah locations, such as Kakariko.
I love kakariko village, the frogs are so cute, also I spent a lot of time there in oot too
I also love accidentally walking onto the guy’s plum trees and getting told his entire life story

I didn’t know that
It is so interesting to see that they changed so many things. Didn't expect they'd do that.
There must have been a long list of objects + things you can do with them + their sound effects + whatever else can happen with them = revisit all these things and validate if any change is needed (maybe even is there was players' feedback on the internet for that specific object), so at the end they had a large backlog of subtle differences to implement.
I like this series, because it shows the design the decisions the developers made.
1:18 NO WONDER that Gordon City Lilypad Circle took forever!
just a sign of the times I guess
Man, finished TOTK. Not close to 100% like I wanted as I got burned out due to work and shores, but did. This video made me want to play BOTW again, and then TOTK
Not being able to examine signs on the ground seems like a step back
As someone who ended up playing the two side by side because I restarted my BotW file in prep for TotK, I find a few of these (and a few other things) to be a bit more obvious than people are willing to give credit for.
But it is interesting that Link has a bit of a heavier footfall and a louder splash in TotK. Perhaps he put on a bit of weight not represented by the game's graphics.
#2 caused me so much struggle in TOTK. I was like "why is it not working? what is going on?!" because I remembered that I didn't need to be diving in the last game! I actually thought that this might be a huge problem for new players who try jumping in normally, see that nothing happens, and never learn that the circles have koroks.
I never realized this because I always push the dive button for a cooler landing lol
The swim speed buff from the zora armor now affects also the alt animations (those that resemble old swimming animations)
This video made me realize I have never opened a door off-center in Botw
I wonder why they got rid of the ability to read the signs when they are cut-down in TotK. I wonder if it has something to do with the new physics.
Addison would be proud of all these sign facts
Not sure if you covered it yet in a previous video but another difference with lynels is the number of times you can hit them from on their back. In botw you can do 6 hits every time, but in totk you can only get six hits in once, the rest will boot you off after 3 usually
Your videos are amazing. I love all the details you find. The footage you get. The amount of work you put into these 👍🏻.
0:38 tough pumpkins make tough veggie dishes
I just found out about cutting signs in TOTK and fused one to a shield. NPCs will be really confused.
Haven't tested yet if there is hidden dialogue. Would be awesome, but I guess there is a limit for the amount of hidden little details even for Nintendo (I know about the Hudson sign though).
The legend of Signs: Breath of the Kingdom
I really love your videos!!
Did you know when fighting Torch Slugs in Ocarina of Time, hitting the ground with the Megaton Hammer flips them over? There are a few easily accessible ones in Ganon's Tower to try it out for yourself~
I love both of this game so much
“I will hunt you down.”
😂
well at least you can start a headfirst dive from anywhere whereas in botw it was a special animation triggered by jumping off a cliff towards water
1:03 Imagine getting knocked of a cliff by a Lynel, landing in the water and getting a Korok
Hold on I just noticed easily between botw and totk lynel lose balance when parry with dash attack
Edit: or maybe it just me
Yeah we noticed that too! Lynels' animation after the parry seems slightly different, we'll look further into it :)
If you mix a stick with a big boomerang it can be throwed to the stratosphere
So glad for that seared steak one, that was annoying
clearly bolson has been upgrading all the sighs with heavier, sturdier materials. :v
I picked up on the korok circles after jumping in feet forst didn't work. I didbt notice the other changes
This video was a sign.
I can, with a heavy heart, say that I hope future console Zelda games stick to the open world style instead of the old style of play. I've truly come to love these two titles and their difficulty and custom ways of solving their puzzles.
2:27 I've never seen that happening, never
If you destroy the signs in either game, do they come back? Never tried in either.
i would imagine so cus they're kinda important
Idk if you can suggest stuff here but in botw, important names or hints as to where to go for quest are teal. (ex. champion names or divine beasts) In totk stuff like that is red.
How do you find these!? ^^'
Randomly cutting a bush "Wait, that sound is different than in that previous game i played 5 years ago"
Its like they intentionally made some things better for totk and then downgraded others. Some of the sounds for cutting things and the destruction physics of signs in botw were better in my opinion.
I think the reason the sign physics were changed was because in TOTK you can use Ultrahand and Fuse on destroyed signs so they probably wanted to make it less annoying.
Also did you know the hearts in Totk are orange while the hearts in botW are red
of course he's heavier, his hair got longer (/j)
Also the Search has been swapped for Take when taking seared food items
I love weird stupid details
Can the sign be lifted by Ultra hand or it can be fused with the fuse ability?
Have you try to fuse signs?
The Master sign. This way to the cemetery.
I have tried to, and it works! Not sure if it works on all tho. But it does on small ones! Sadly but expectedly they do’nt do anything special.
I noticed the new door animation because it felt less seemless
I was playing totk thinking "why does it feel annoying to walk through doors now?" and this explains it lol
So you were expecting the moonwalk again?
@@Einzeller2010 I never noticed the moonwalk
All these subtle changes adds up to this being a new game
the first one I was like wow thats definitely subtle, like why would you ever test that lol. the second one I found really interesting though, I think I always just drove into the ones I've found so far anyways. the third one link sounds heavier not feels and could be the depth of the water but could just be a new sound. the door one is funny to I never noticed. it amazes me the time people spend on this game doing this stuff. I love the games and spend hours upon hours doing the things that are productive let alone just fouling around, I can't stare at a TV that long without sunlight everyday.
The splash one almost sounds to me like he gained a little weight (be it muscle or otherwise) that didn't get represented by the graphics.
With as much as he eats though, I'm not surprised he did.
Love these videos

*signs*
Yo why this 90% about signs 😭
Can the sign be fused?
Yep! :)
Man how heavy is rauru’s arm that it’s making his splashes loud like that?
Not sure if many of these differences make totk a better game or not. It’s good to know them, though
I love this series please keep it going
I wish they'd let you tame a lynal..so you can ride it around and be a show off 😂
Should have made that like DLC or something when TOTK came out but..oh well..stall horses are good enough i guess 🫤
I kinda miss the pop-up when grabbing seared steak from a camp. It felt like a fun little side reward
Epic Video
Awesome game. Goty
Okay, we get it, you really like to cut down signs, calm down.
I wish they put all this energy into the story and content being more interesting and making more sense
Parrying is a lot easier in totk
4:43 It's a shame that they downgraded that
are there any instances of fusable objects besides the lost traveling korok npcs being usable with a button prompt? they're the only thing i can think of in totk.
@@dan_loeb Messages in a bottle
@@robuxyyyyyyyyyy4708oh forgot about those, yeah they definitely have systems to handle fusable objects being readable, shame they didn't keep it for signs. especially now that ultrahand could easily flip them over
@@dan_loeb Also, wtf is your pfp
Knowing the game, the devs probably found a bug consisting on reading a sign while on a vehicle so they took the easy way to fix it.
:( they just need to let us pet dogs
The biggest change I noticed in the video is how much more pixelated shitty TotK is compared to BotW.
It's probably because he's playing BOTW with graphics mods on...
@@MrStatement No, this can easily be reproduced with the actual hardware.
You know you're starting to run out of things to talk about when half your video is about cutting sign posts
It's the same game, but somehow worse
Not true lol.

Botw is the better game
Not that I have problem with it but there are quite a few grammatical errors. I only noticed, because usually the textboxes are quite pristine, utilizing some of the finer side of the English language. Were the uncommon words just hijacked from a dictionarrry? 🦿 (a peosteftic elf)
