    Loved this video. Thanks for sharing your venture. Your Mum is becoming a Star on this channel. The build-up on the coins can be easily removed with Tartaric Acid (powder form). In a small enough container add hot water and then tartaric acid, drop the coins in, and wait for the water to cool down. Take a clean cloth and shine the coins. You're rich!

    Great job everyone! Just a note: Crumbled egg shells do not leach calcium into the soil. They take many years to break down to a form where the plants' roots can absorb the nutrients. Better if you buy a bag of bone meal and mix some into the soil.
    Also, at 41:45, I may have missed it but what is the 2 story structure behind you destined to become? Love to see your garden coming to life! So sorry for you poor Tony kitty. Our pets are everything to us and hope he heals well.

    LOVE LOVE LOVE
    I really appreciate that you realised the importance of SHOWING us the detail to fitting h the drawers. I have drawers with same sliding rails leftover from a job that tradesmen did. Now can’t afford to pay utters and have been putting it off (for ‘years’ if truth be told) … you’ve just inspired me to have a go at getting it done! Because u showed me the detail, the order, the tips, the everything….that I couldn’t be bothered to look up myself (or it didn’t occur to me to check for a UA-cam video). It’s just been slipped in to my regular favourite UA-camrs’ video, and I’m so chuffed that it has!
    Grateful 🙏🏼

    For saving all the things you find on the land, build a box, like your kitchen drawer. Put a base on it and make a coffee table out of it. Put your finds in the box and cover the box in a glass top. Instant display table + a useful coffee table!
    Bamboo is a quick growing plant that provide shade, BUT sink the pots in the ground before planting. It's a fast spreader and invasive as anything. Never plant it directly in the ground or you'll spend the rest of your life getting rid of it!

    • @JudySnyder-dv5ld
      @JudySnyder-dv5ld 6 місяців тому

      Yes, I was.going to say bamboo needs to be potted or it will take over. I had bamboo in my yard and my islander friends said, "Why aren't you eating it? It's delicious."

  • @42apprentice
    @42apprentice 6 місяців тому +3

    Loofas on a frame & sweet corn will provide shade if planted between the sun & the smaller plants? And a trained grapevine would help. Also you could make an attractive white sailcloth to put on poles over the patch rather than using cheap shade cloth. If you can get bone meal there it would be a good dressing to use on the soil.

    I am awed by the crazy amount of stone you’re harvesting from the ruin and then humbled by the work the original builders put in to quarry, move and build from this material. Then I’m reminded you plan on harvesting the stone to rebuild. Bravo!

    Omg, those coins, you may like to consider taking to the local historians ( historical society) to see how you can best preserve the coins, & find out the history behind the era. Definitely a special find that other people can enjoy by you sharing the information you find out. Value versus knowledge shared.
    Your mum may benefit from building some raised garden beds, dont forget to add potasium, & mulch from compost bin to vegi garden to break down clay soil.

    There are quite a few home remedies online to remove oxidation from old coins that will not damage the coin. However, if any of the coins are collectable, they are best left with the patina on them as serious collectors are more likely to buy them if you ever wanted to sell them. Hope this helps a little 😊❤

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  6 місяців тому +7

    It may be better not to clean the coins of verdigris & other patine. Those for only over years (or centuries!), are part of the history of the coins, & can make them more valuable. I'd just scrub them gently with and old toothbrush, in a bowl of warm water with a drop of mild dishwashing liquid.

    I have gardened in mostly very hot sunny regions and have grown a lot of tomatoes successfully in full sun, so hear are a few ideas I had success with. We used our tomato (on 2m high cages) to shade tender greens and herbs in intensive and companion garden plots to help both resist pests. We did double dig (around 1m deep and wide per plant) to loosen and amended to enrich compacted or clayey soil since they do like to go deep and wide with root structures and need a lot of nutrients; they also like a lot of air flow and not having their leaves splashed with soiled water, so we have always drip watered deeply with a soaker hose and trellised up or supported the plants, especially non determinate (viney) varieties. Lack of airflow and too much sitting moisture on the leaves can cause a lot of disease problems. They also need slightly acid soil so a ph test and some soil amendments (compost, aged manure, or lime) can help them be very vigorous and resistant to problems.

    Egg shells are a good source of calcium you can also use peeled potatoes the peeling soak them until the water turns dirty and also water your plants with that. It seems to me if your cat is in pain it might be quite a bit of pain because my vets have always told me cats have a very high tolerance for pain. I had a cat with a broken hip that walked around on it for a week, my sons cat and he didn't think she was hurt that bad. Great progress! How amazing to find the coins! Such a gift!
    I have a suggestion. To save space, just place the lid upside-down in your big pan in the bottom drawer, I think you still have plenty of height for that! I find that saves the space in the next drawer up for other things!

      Super happy with the coins! What a find! I think we might be able to fit the pan lid upside down yes!

    Suggestion: Since you've found old coins in the walls, may be a good idea to metal detect the rubble. Perhaps you'll find more! Happy hunting!

      @TheIndigoEscape  6 місяців тому

      That's a great idea! I should see how we can find a metal detector!

    I'd grow peas and beans. A passionfruit vine might do well, and some sweet peas, because; flowers! : )

    They used to put coins in walls to bring good luck & to signify the date the wall were built 😂 So now that you have 3 of them i have no clue ❤ God bless

      Hahah! Like a newspaper type of thing! That’s so funny. In Venezuela they sued to add gold coins as a sort of bank! So I thought it could be a long the same ways.

    Does hazel grow in Portugal? I would not use bamboo as it spreads rapidly. Hazel would allow you to make a living hedge as it grows.
