Hey Brother. Iam a Navy Veteran 1st thank you for your Service.That. 2nd I have terminal liver Cancer and have probably a year 2 live. Watching your videos and seeing the different states that I'd prob never would of makes me 4get with iam going through. Thank you very much stay safe and iam a very big fan of yours also. Glad your feeling well/better. God Bless you. 🙏 🙏
Hey, Hobo....I've been tryin' to get this suggestion to ya for a while....I was Army Infantry, and used to live for many days in the weeds and brush. The Vietnam Vets taught me to cut up tick collars for cats and dogs. Then ya stuff 'em in your boot between the socks. Works great for the chiggers and ticks.
I really appreciate your videos. As a house-bound and disabled old fart staring at four empty walls every day trying to stretch my pennies, I would do what you do in a heartbeat if I could. Thank you for giving me a much needed taste of the good life.
My brother used to live the same way, unfortunately I lost him a few years back. Thank you for letting me see what his life may have been like all of those years. Please stay safe out there!!
I rode freight trains for nine and a half years and unfortunately most of my friends are gone oh, I am so sorry to hear about your brother! It's a hard life out there not everybody can handle it!
Ever since I found Shoestring I’m amazed at the scenery. From now on any car trip wife and I take are along state highways, Farm market roads, county highways and all other back roads to our destinations. It works well and less traffic.
Shoestring, you capture something real about freedom and life as it’s meant to be lived in your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us.
Like all the rest, I love your videos! I took my first cab ride in a steam locomotive at the age of 6 months old in June of 1952 on the Lake Erie & Western District of the NKP Southbound from Kansas , Ohio to Fostoria, Ohio. I rode on either a Class H - 5 a or b 2-8-2 on my father's lap as he sat on the head brakeman 's seat behind the fireman 16 miles into Fostoria,Ohio . Loved trains and steam locomotives ever since . I'm 71yrs old now. Keep making videos !! Great stuff!!
Nice ride Shoestring,...no squeeling, no thumping. Sure is good to see you riding again ... There for a while it was nip and tuck at every turn but it looks like you could be the Hobo King for 2023 😊 .
@gunnytinman If anything when they hand out the awards he should win the "SPECIAL LIFETIME ACHIVEMENT AWARD" like they do at the oscar's, Go down as the first Grand Hobo!!! 🦸♂
I remember back in the 70's and 80's that it wasn't unusual to see someone looking out of an open boxcar while waiting for a train to pass. I haven't seen that for a long time now.
I rode in the 70's. back then the car carriers were wide open, you could climb in a brand new car and ride in style with heat or ac. today those cars would arrive striped clean up on blocks. its an entirely different country today.

I can remember when Camo Dave would cover your channel . He's the one who turned me on to your channel. I love it ! I learn a lot and no drama. Just sit back and go for the ride . Thanks Mark... 😊👍👍👍
So glad you've been feeling better Shoestring , being on the road is pretty good medicine for you , and thanks for your videos I kinda live vicariously through your journeys . Be Blessed.
Brother, I do appreciate how you can just adapt to the surroundings and blend in. I watch your videos and it seems like you expose yourself at times, however it's almost like no one notices. Maybe when we see cars waiting at the crossings, they are all busy playing with their cell phones and are to consumed to notice. That busted box car was a blessing, keep you out of the direct sun and the rain. I know you need to get back to home base and reset. But I definitely enjoy watching the rails go by with you, it is like medicine or something, just calms me down. So you go rest at home base and I am going to re-watch some of my favorites.
i feel lucky to have another video of yours to watch on this fine saturday brother M ! i’d definitely wanna ride with you sometime but,,, it damn sure ain’t gonna be in the summer time !! stay hydrated & happy 💪 and keep on rolling
Every time I see you post something new I feel a little stress relief lol..with all these derailments all over the country I wonder where you are every time I hear about an accident. Stay safe and we will see you on the next one
Great relaxing video Shoestring. I learn so much from watching them. Would love to see more of your camps and how u pick them. Thanks for posting and stay safe!
You're the man!! As I sit here watching a shoestring video sipping coffee out of my shoestring cup. Thank you for posting, God bless, be safe and keep them coming!!!
Thanks for another ride Mark, and the Alaska cabin thing in the backyard will ALWAYS be available if ever “stuck” up here… safe travels and thanks again…
I remember a jungle in Wewoka Oklahoma near the C.R.I.P.S. switch tracks on Wewoka creek. It was set up pretty good. Had card board box sleepers, shaving mirror, bar soap, razor, towel, and Hobo writing to tell where to get good handouts. I used to go fishing there. When the last Rock Island trian went down the track so went the jungle. I think that was about 1984. Setting food up high was a thing for the next guy. These Hobo's had a respectful code of the road. Shoestring last of era .

I believe that I am drawn to your videos because they remind me of being young hopping trains, going places with my brother. It was fun and we had no care in the world.I just want to drop out of society and hop a train right now.Just the thrill of going somewhere, anywhere enjoying the ride and the scenery.
Cool to see a boxcar video Shoestring. Though I haven't rode in a boxcar or any freight related rolling stock for that matter, the boxcar still seems like the dream ride to experiencing a train hopping/hobo experience. Hope you had fun. I enjoyed the video.
hey shoestring i use to drive 12 cylinder switch engine and work the switches you bring back memory's and you explain things right on love watching you God bless you stay dry and don't let the bed bugs bite you

In my youth (1950's) living in Park Ridge, IL we used to hitch rides on freight trains. Played on the railroad tracks all the time. We stole my moms cigarettes and gave them to hobos in exchange for stories. We had cuffs on our Blue Jeans that would be full of cinders when we came home and mom made us empty our cuffs before coming in the house.
We wish we could be there live with you too SS! We will settle for being with you after the fact on video, but we are always with you in spirit in real time.
Hi shoestring. I follow your interesting travels. I go by the Vardo yard quite often. As i go down the road there to the store( save-a-lot). I always keep my eye open if i see ya.
About chewing peanuts.. I know you've probably addressed this, but have you ever thought about getting dentures? Or are they too much to maintain when you're riding??
Hey Young Man...Great ridin along with you. I killed a darn mosquito in my house this mornig..they are on the prowl with all the rain weve had..✌️ Hope the bear spray burn is getting better
Got to hand it to you for optimism. I was homeless a couple times, and was close to just offing myself. If it happens again, I will. I can't handle it like this guy.
