agree with your comments, Chris; it is why I don't get a shop to do it, as these fiddly jobs to do right, take time. Thanks for caring about the car! W.
lol you are struggling for no reason. Pull the center out if not clip the tip and push the middle through with a pick or tiny flat head. replace the gromet and pin when you reinstall with a new one. applying silicone spray to the plastic fittings before messing with them is also very helpful.
For anyone using the parts list to order fasteners, note that the quantities suggested are for replacement of ONE side skirt, with a few extra fasteners in case you break some. If you’re replacing BOTH side skirts, double the quantities of fasteners.
I have a question, what's the size of the holes where the grommets for the side skirts meets the plastic guides (white plastic fasteners)? mine's doesn't have the holes across the rocker panel, but the side skirts below has the holes.
How did you remove the green body grommets in order to install new ones? They are a hard plastic, and really seat themselves tightly in the body holes via two tabs on the backside. I’m trying to come up with a way to remove them without causing any damage. I bought a full new set of green grommets.
@@Jimbo-rk5jp I tried using needle nose pliers, but the grommets are anchored in pretty tightly and pulling on them made the metal start to pull outward as well. So I used my Dremel with a rounded bit and inserted it into the grommet to basically split it on the inside, then they easily pulled out.
Loving all of your videos. Question- do you know if there is a way to simply re-pad the driver's door armrest (not center)? After a couple of decades it needs padding, but the leather is still in good condition (some small cracks, but no tears). Thanks!
My e36 m3 has the same wear. I have a lift in my garage so not so much contorting your body like a pretzel....All that work for a 12" piece of thin rubber gasket cos peeps cant lift their feet getting in and out...
And only you or I can probably tell it was ever replaced. The retaining clips were the things I M'Fd the most. I think I broke several and almost ran short -- I even bought extras knowing I was guaranteed to break something.
Very cool video indeed... Could u do me a favor if possible. In Germany we cannot find drilling templates anymore. Couldn't u send me like the places where the hole are exactly make in the car? all other parts I am able to find but the drilling template not.
I removed my left side skirt this weekend. I didn't have any difficulties at all. Those plastic fasteners along the bottom easily pried out using TWO pry hooks, one on each side of the center pin, to pry the center pins up. For the two rear fasteners along the fender lip, I just got my Dremel and drilled out the center pins, so I'll need to replace them. I did have to remove the rear tire to get good access to those fasteners on the fender lip. And none of the white plastic clips along the side got broken during removal. And the seals on my car are fine, so I don't need to replace them. I sure didn't say as many f**cks as you. Maybe only three or four! Thanks again for a detailed video.
Kiwi Tile was/is the brand. Not sure if they are still in business. It was more or less the cheaper alternative to Race Deck about 15yrs ago. Thats me, always looking to save a buck.

This has been a great help, thanks for posting, excellent informative honest advice.
I love your attention to detail Chris. Keep up the great work!!!
Planning on working in my 1995 m3 pretty soon.

Thanks for posting the video. I like how you really try to do a good job ,no shortcuts...
I shall return! My passenger side skirt is coming loose on my track car. I don’t want to replace it because it self disassembled at 100+

hey chris, can this side skirt rubber be a reason floor carpet wet ? only on floor after washing ?
thanks for the video it helped me lot
The car's body looks the same without the rocker panels. I'm pulling them off my race car and sealing the holes. Thanks.
BRAVO!
I like your style of work!
I find fussing and cussing the fastest and most efficient way to solve most automotive problems.
Hey mate, did you use OEM rubber gasket? Or an offbrand?
That's exactly my question also.
Buen video..pero tengo una duda..dónde se consigue la goma negra de la talonera?
I just did the same job... very tedious. I have a convertible E36 325i and a 96’ 328is but no M3.....is yours for sale? 😊
I usually take just the bolt itself without the round plastic washer when I take those kind of pins out but they are never this hard haha
you should use some jack stands next time you lift her up

Good jop man
You did it in the right way. I love your swearing while working. My man. You just got 1 more follower on your channel. These bitches are worth that =)
Nice job with this video. I need to remove mine to assess some minor damage on the unibody. I’ll probably be sayng as many f**ks as you did!

Ever heard of jacking the car up? Normally helps with access.
I used a flat head and a hammer
Less than 2 mins
First remove the insert of the clips then clip. Omg
15min of my life wasted
