  • Having trouble with the muscle-up? What are the strength requirements for a muscle-up and just what is a false grip? Do true grips exist? Have you mastered the muscle-up and want to make it more challenging? If you answered yes to any of these questions or have asked similar questions yourself, then this tutorial is for you. Here, you will find a comprehensive guide to achieving one of the fundamental strength-related moves on the still rings, the muscle-up.

    Thank you!
The steel poles are cemented about 1 metre below the ground surface. For a structure as high as this one (about 4.5m) you need to add reinforcement to minimise the bars wobbling a significant amount hence the black poles at the base and rope at the top of the structure.
We got all supplies from a hardware store and a steel/metal supplier provided the poles.

Thanks for the feedback Mikey. Everyone at Ring Fraternity has a different story of how they got the MU; some achieved it in a few days and others took a month or more. Aim to train it at least 3 times a week, as consistency is key. If you happen to experience any pain during or as a result of performing the move, back off for a while. Use that time to focus on other areas of your training.

Are you referring to strict non-false grip muscle ups (MU) or non-false grip MUs with a swing? We don't advise practising MU with a swing as it doesn't allow for maximum strength gains from the exercise. However, as with anything, practice will improve ability. If you're having trouble with endurance on strict form MUs then you need to practice the exercise with an easier variation (a false grip) for more reps. Stay chalked to maintain grip and focus on your technique.

    Thanks Monkinism,
The rings are hung over the structure. For some information on how the structure was made refer to the comment made in response to user - gratitudeforall in the comments section of this video.

This is awesome, I've been working on linking non false grip muscle ups. I cant seem to link more than 5, which depreciates pretty steadily as my crossfit workout lengthens. Can you help me with some efficiency tips for linking non false grip MUs
