Mob and the Body Improvement Club is that one virgin/chad meme where they're friends and support one another.

The best way I can describe the manga's art style is that it's like when you're in 4th grade and your friend wants to show you this comic he made with ballpoint pen on printer paper stapled together, except you open it up and it's actually really well written

I love how Reigens' advice could have been played as a joke misunderstanding where he doesn't take mob seriously, but instead it's legitimate advice that works both ways, even though he's a con artist there's a level of heart that keeps him from being a full on asshole from the beginning, yeah he scams people but most of the time he just solves their problem through his natural abilites and claims it's supernatural stuff

Honestly the trope of a fradulent mentor who ends up being a good mentor because they're that good of a fraud is my favorite.

    • @philmysterious7176
      @philmysterious7176 4 роки тому +27

I highly disagree with this take. Reigen is actually a good mentor. He genuinely cares about mob (despite using him to make money) and tries to look out for him, gives him genuinely good advice, and tries to make sure mob grows up to be a good person (with the exception of those couple episodes in season 2). In general, reigen isn't even that bad of a person; he's a conman, but his cons still ends up improving some people's lives with his massages and what not.

@@philmysterious7176 you're right about all those things but like in that he doesn't really know anything about psychic powers, doesn't have them himself, and uses Mob to make money he's basically a fraud.

Mob had the same effect on me, I devoured it. And in the end it made me feel like some Ghibli movies, where the protagonists are good, purely and unapologetic good people, they don't have to be mean or kill people to "defeat" the enemy, they are good people that suffered and have to live thro it. Sometimes I feel like the world have us do bad things to each other to be happy and media like those exist to remind us that that's bullshit.
    Amazing video, thank u :3

Mob Psycho 100 had a huge impact on me to look at things in a different perspective. I am honestly a cynical person and would close myself off from talking to new people.
When I watch Mob on how he dealt with people, he not only gave these people who hated him “the benefit of the doubt” but he managed to change them to become better people.
That is what I love about him. It hit me deep so hard that I can totally connect with him on a psychological level! 🤩

The way this piece of media changed me was that I always thought I had to do everything in my power to stand out. I often forgot that other people are also struggling to find their own way in this world. The speech that Reigen gives made me have an epiphany. No matter how special you are, always choose to be kind.

    Really liked this video.
I actually think the way one punch man and mob psycho has been drawn is the most brilliant and most expressive anime ive seen, its refreshing because its different and not all characters are perfectly beautiful or just so UNIQUE. And i love it that its not overly positive and smiley since as i know, life is not all about smiles.
This is the greatest anime ever and its not even close.
I would recommend mob psycho 100 to anyone

I've only watched a few animated television shows, one of them being Girls' Last Tour, it's one of the best shows that i have completed. I'd place it up there with Cowboy Bebop and Over the Garden Wall. It's refreshing to watch a series that immerses you so well. Personally (if you were going to watch it), you can do both dub or sub, I don't really mind the dubbed versions, but then again, it's rare that I even care about that matter. Love ye videos.

I am very glad you decided to watch this, i remember your vote on twitter for manga or anime, and it is by far my favourite anime. I agree with your takes on it but I relate much more to Teruki hanazawa than either mob or Reigen, I definitely had the superiority complex anyway, and I'm trying to be better now. I am sad to learn about reigen's voice actor, hope he gets replaced for s3. I would say that having watched the most recent series subbed and dubbed, the sub also manages to often be more eloquent and less simplified, so that's another bonus.

I love MP100, definitely one of my favourites. There aren't a lot of female characters but the ones we get are all really well defined and interesting, even Tsubomi (post season two)
I quite like OPM too (more the webcomic which has better pacing and less endless battles that I don't care about) but it doesn't have really any heart to it, barring Garou's storyline. It also has that horrible okama sterotype character.

I was so excited to see this video! I feel much the same way with Mob Psycho, having connected with it more than any other work of fiction in a long time. I’m curious, have you finished reading the manga or only read parts that have already been animated? I binge-read the manga in like 24 hours after watching season 1, and the conclusion is absolutely breath-taking. I would definitely recommend that everyone read the end of the manga, in the interim before season 3!
And not to self-promo too much, but I’ve made a few video essays about mob psycho if anyone is interested in checking them out. (both anime and manga spoilers, be warned)

HxH is also about a more realistic view on shonen , and how weird it is that these two kids are facing this world of adult hunters who are well prepared and experienced for it (not teenagers like most shonen) and it's realistic emotional , physical and psychological consequences on them , almost every character they meet comment on how sad for Killua (by torture) or freaky for Gon (by choice) to have those powers and mentality at their age .

X'er here. *Every* subsequential generation is disaffected. The boomers called my generation the "Lost Generation", then turned around and applied a label with a similar flavor to Gen Y, Z and Millennials. People are people regardless when they were born and when the wool falls away from our eyes and the freakiness of life jumps down our throats - feeling disaffected is just part of the journey.

I've been finally watching Mob Psycho 100 season 2 and it's so good! I adore the relationship Mob and Reigen have, like sincerely so wholesome on a whole other level.
But yes, the lack of female characters was something I'd also noticed and it's a shame. It's even more egregious in One Punch Man where it's basically just Terrible Tornado and Hellish Blizzard (who are pretty much just side characters anyway) and ... one of the HQ people? And that's it? ... It seems kinda weirdly on purpose at this point. Or maybe a very large blind spot.

Everything was ok until the "there are not enough women in the show" which I feel it's unnecesary to complete a quota of diversity. Also I disagree with "x was a horrible person so don't enjoy a good thing created by that person" even if the guy didn't apologized which he did, and I understand if you don't want to believe it, but as I said, even if he didn't apologized, I don't think it's fair for the rest of the people that worked on it or yourself for not enjoying something good just because someone did a bad thing, but you got a point to don't support "bad" people, which I think it's a pretty simplistic way of seeing things, regardless, I understand. Have a good day :)
