Forget the haters LPN/LVNs absolutely 💯 are nurses, I started my nursing career as a LPN in 2002, 19 years ago, got my RN through a diploma program in 2008, BSN in 2015 and MSN in 2018, I STILL use that fundamental nursing knowledge I learned in LPN school every day. Everyone has their own path and plan, not every LPN wants to be a RN.

My aunt is an LPN for 43 years. She still works for the VNA. I have complete respect for her. I decided five years ago to go to RN school at 39 years old. The differences that she knows and I know our whole worlds apart. Meaning she knows completely more than I do. I just got license last year in june. I feel that I know the best nurse in my life is my Aunt and I know I can back ask questions when I need advice, which is for me all the time as I am a new nurse.

I think it is vital to do your homework on any LVN Program that you are considering. At Lee College in Baytown TX they mandate that all RN/LVN Students get the Covid 19 vaccines and boosters, no religious exemptions accepted. However, they are one of the few colleges that are allowing LVNs to do night classes and clinicals on weekends so they can still work full time.
Also, once you graduate with your LVN, when you come back they allow you to skip an entire level of courses for the LVN-RN program they have and it saves you a lot of money.

People always talk regardless of profession that is true. But LVNs always have jobs like every other profession just depends how well you interview and how you sell yourself. I got my education for free through a California community school with a grant I won. I secured employment in a rehab/nursing home making 22hr (only worked there 2 months) the work was heavy and the pay wasn’t what I wanted, I’ll be honest I like a cushy relaxing job with less stress so I applied everywhere and landed a case management job working for an HMO healthcare system starting at 27.72hr with PTO, paid holidays off, Paid sick time, 3 paid personal days a year, employer paid dental (got free braces) and employer paid healthcare insurance I just pay copays of $5. I love the job been doing it 2yrs now, I basically went from new grad nurse straight into case management without knowing anyone, and I’ve gotten raises since and I receive an annual raise every year. I make $30.45hr full time with bilingual differential (0.45 cents), as a guy coming from working e-commerce I love nursing the opportunities are endless on what you can do. The salaries are great too. Mind you since the covid-19 thing I work remotely from home now, it doesn’t get better than that.

I personally decided that I want to go to an LVN program that has very few pre-requisites, because I don't want to take 5 pre-reqs to be considered. It was also important to me that I take classes in the evening and clinicals on weekends so I can work full time.
Lee College in Baytown only requires their LVNs to take 1 class and while they are taking it they can apply to the program. Most of the programs in my area only allows daytime classes and daytime clinicals, so working even part-time isnt an option.

My issue with going for lpn or lvn is that you are very limited to where you can work. Try getting a lvn spot in a hospital. Its hard!! Most places wont hire lpn’s cause of the limits on med administration. Also, when you go from lon or lvn to RN school, you find out how much extra you learn as a RN. The lvn’s i know said they learned 80 percent more than they learned as a lvn. And like you said, to some degree, they are phasing out them. With the whole magnet status and hospitals , they are even trying to phase out assiciate degree RN’s. So to me it just makes sense to just get the RN. I dont look down on anyone. If time is your biggest concern over cost then I would say so I know a lot of families that can't afford to have someone out of the work force for so long to go traditional so they sacrificed for the quicker private route
