  • We see a lot of cool off road rigs when we are out in the woods but when we saw Austin Witherow's Hayabusa Samurai Buggy we just knew we had to learn more about it. After all it is not every day that you see a Hayabusa powered Samurai much less a tubed out rock buggy. We like that he kept it Suzuki by doing the Samurai Hayabusa Swap. He then upgraded the axles to Toyota truck ones and used the transmission and transfer case as well. It uses the motorcycle trans mated to a toyota trans using a drive shaft. It also features full hydraulic steering and 37" tires. This Hayabusa powered buggy will do wheelies up the rocks. We tracked him down jumping up slick rock falls at Busted Knuckle Off Road Park in Stevenson, Alabama during our Trail Ride Revolution Ride. You might call this a Hayabusa rock crawler but it is more of a rock bouncer if you ask us.

      Been riding around on 4 pogo sticks for years, need them adjusted bad but school has been killing my wallet. What tires you think I should use in the 37 range? I ran red labels for years and still ride with friends that have them and I see no difference in grip. We have even tested the same tires on the same truck and neither one of them slipped a tire going up a wet rock slab. I still compare the tires with reds every time I go ride, have yet to not crawl something they dont or id buy them again.... if i had moeny haha.

      That would destroy toyota axles. If you need 1ton stuff you might as well go v8 because after you add all that weight your not going to notice another couple hundred lbs for the bigger motor with double the torque, and by the time you turbo it, youve spent the same amount of money a 600hp v8 costs. Youd have to major upgrade the bike motors clutch and trans to handle that, would cost sooooo much money.

    • @matthewschwass8019
      @matthewschwass8019 6 років тому +1

      I was speaking with a local converter company and he said he thinks it would be possible if I went with a high stall small diameter. He said nothing bigger than a 7". I did the calculations and a 2nd gen busa motor in first gear has about 160 lb ft of torque if I calculated it correctly... That should be enough I would think since a 4 cylinder car dont make anywhere near that at idle... Am I thinking correctly?

    • @austinwitherow10
      @austinwitherow10 6 років тому

      It will never compare to bigger motors for sure, but its stronger than a 22r. With the transfer case in low, it crawls like a dual-transfer case ride which is what I do 95% of the time. The little extra wheel spin i get compared to a 22r helps me on things like that rock ledge or muddy hills but I could have crawled out the rest of the trail... but i was being videotaped so.... yeah. Id take a v8 and auto trans any day of the week though.
