I have flown multiple times in Europe with the Gerber Shard and never had any problems - by far the most useful mini pry bar

I was just looking into pry bars a few days ago, specifically the Ti-Breaker. I am definitely leaning towards it.

So I have (had) the gerber shard, and I went to the airport with it on my keychain, TSA didn’t like it. Needless to say I no longer have a gerber shard lol.

I really like the Gerber Shard but I already carry a multi-tool with me and it has both a box opener and a bottle opener, which are not that common around here anyway, so while I like it I'd have no use for it if I ever got one.

Every prybar that I've been interested in buying is discontinued. The Milspin EDC is not available.
It would be awesome if the Ti-Breaker had ruler etchings on the sides or back side.

Gerber Shard is flying friendly & do a paracord wrap on it ( instructions on UA-cam ). Kershaw makes a couple, I like one with an oxygen wrench for water valves. Nitize makes a ratcheting one, which I just picked up, it's great. Amazon has 1 called the "Beast" not much of a scraper but has good tools on it & it's light. Toor knives makes 1 in ceracoat. And Schrade has a couple titanium ones. I work in the aviation industry, having a small pry is essential equipment, if I need something larger I just call a mechanic. Final mention, Wallet Ninja, great scraper, especially for ice & it's TSA approved..

You know what these tools really need? A 5/32 hex slot so you can give your key some leverage. 5/32 is used for most push bar door locks.

  • @Victorsbzh

You've actually reviewed scrapers and screwdrivers. A prybar would benefit from more leverage. That's why I carry a point tool in addition to reliable folder as rescue/emergency kit.

@@jbstuff I get you. I have a CRKT Viva, which has a prybar. I was very surprised (and delighted) to notice I could use it to... open the bathroom window at work. A flat screwdriver would just look weird going to the toilet, and the wood is so old it might actually damage it, when the Viva is wide and thus safer. (Strangely enough, I do not want to have the "I broke a window cause I took a bad poop".) Don't lose hope, you might still find a use for your prybar if you really want one! \o/

@neveragain I’ve not had any issues other than the pocket clip. Which the replaced for free. I’ve carried the same knife for over a decade now. Though I would say that that’s a long time to carry the same knife used regularly, so I have either gotten very lucky to find one of high quality or you’ve been unlucky.
I’m certain some are better quality than others and that’s true for any product but in my experience they’ve been fantastic.
Certainly not saying your stance isn’t valid.
Is there a particular brand that you like that you recommend?
This one will need replaced eventually and I’m willing to see what else is available unless you recommend Gerber.
      Not a fan of Gerber.

      Literally anything.
I used one to take off my inspection sticker on my car.
I scraped lottery tickets yesterday with a bar, easier than finding a coin at least for me.
I tore off a sticker on my weight bench last week and only partially came off. So I scrapped the residue off with one.
Of course i can use a razor blade, but a pry bar is literally right in my pocket.

Also I’ve stopped carrying pry bar tools bc they take them every time you enter a government building and they do not return them.
I’ve found that my wallet ninja works great for almost everything these tools do and bc it’s in my wallet I’ve flown with it many times over the years and the only time it was an issue was 10 years ago in the Baltimore airport. 2 TSA argued over whether it was or wasn’t and then let it go.
So idk if it’s getting through and shouldn’t or if they just don’t care but I think being a veteran I should be allowed that special privilege anyway.
Edit: I forgot to mention that until this year after watching these videos I’ve used a magic clip wallet or whatever it’s called, the metal as seen in tv one. Which served me well but I needed a change.
It helped disguise my wallet ninja going through security I think. Idk if my ridge wallet will do so but I’m sure I’ll find out next time I fly if It does or doesn’t and if wallet ninjas are allowed or not.

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  3 роки тому +4

I agree you should. And I also think it’s garbage that they steal gear trying to enter a building. It’s a pry bar, not a gun.

watch out for TSA and any screening officials. they see a shiny "tactical" thing and they'll abuse any excuse to keep it and pocket it for themselves. IF you really have to take it with you, scramble it up with a bunch of electronic cords to confuse the x-ray. always worked for me.

@@ChrispyThings no, lmao not really. This is for men who don’t own tools and just want recognition from the boys when they pull it out to open their bottle. Maybe for you feminine men you have tons of uses but as someone who works in construction I can’t see why I’d choose to use this when I have a man sized tool that’ll do the job better and a lot easier. It’s a trinket. It’s a show piece. When you start going on about the damn finish and color and how this one is stonewashed etc you lost all credibility. Buy you a ratchet set, a crescent wrench, a hammer, a set of screwdrivers , and that 3 pack of variable sized Bosch pry bars at lowes. Then buy you a small cheap little tool box to start with and put them in it. Now you’re on your way to manhood and you’ll be able to fix things around the house that need repair.

People always talk about 'scraping' and 'opening paint cans' when trying to justify these... who does these things daily and if you do them daily why aren't you using a proper tool? Never once have I gone to fetch paint cans, brushes, tape, sheeting etc etc and then thought the best option to open up the paint cans would be a keyring pry bar...

      I can answer.
      The short reason.
Why not have every size prybar, including mini keychain size. They are useful EDC tools.
      Long reason:
At work, I use 10 inches on up to 3, 4, and 5 foot prybars.
But off work, they do not fit in my pocket for EDC.
For EDC, the mini prybars do have uses for me every day in many ways more than just prying.
They are multitools and plus I like to be prepared.
If I EDC my big prybars, the cops may think I am braking into places if I am not in my work truck, plus they do not fit into my pockets or on my keyring.
I do EDC CRKT caribeaner type prybar multitool for quick light prying jobs. Also, my heavy-duty 3" by 3/8" by 3/8" Milspin Rhino Bar - Pry Bar for bigger jobs. It is the cheaper $15 version, a solid tempered stainless steel mini prybar I boughton Amazon. I made a 4" metal tube pipe as a handle extension for leverage that I can slip onto the back of the Rhino Pry Bar.
Plus, the Gerber Lockdown Pry multitool with it's built in 4" prybar.
I EDC those 3 different types of prybar.
They are great for different tasks, but I never brag about their size.
It is not the size that matters but how you use them, she told me.
I also EDC a Leatherman Rebar mutitool and Victorinox Handyman SAK or my Swiss Champ XLT SAK and use them for light prying only.
I never brake a tool, like a knife, while prying as I use the right tool for the job.
It is nice to have a tool on you right when you need it, and it is the right tool for the job.
