Damn, this brings me back to having lots of rad friends and how we found all the good music that doesn't get played on TV or radio, we'd all find and share new bands or songs every week.
Man, mirroring that horn part vocally like she does is SO hard! And she has POWER in her voice. Awesome bass line and just a DOPE rhythm in general. This was the first of their songs I ever heard and is probably my favorite, just great and completely unique. Cool, COOL stuff.
When I go back and listen to this song, it’s always this version. It’s perfect. This song has always existed, somewhere out there in either. She simply plucked it out, wrapped it in rice paper, and put it in front of us. Creativity at its finest.
Looking back 12 years on... its hard to describe how groundbreaking this felt at the time

the way her voice just slides down those notes in 2:30 - 2:38 and then goes all raw and edgy and primal immediately after... she is in complete control of her voice, and my soul.

I remembered after 10 years and im happy to be back.
An amazing artist in her own right on so very many levels. I can't think of any other contemporary artist who seamlessly move multiple genres. She is truly ahead of her time. When the world finally catches on, she will have already have arrived, and moved on to something else.
