The best pet reptile you could have. Litteraly when handled and socialized properly, they are the puppy of reptiles. As well as super intelligent including being able to be potty trained, target trained, and leash trained.
Cool, nice and informative. You should also mention what they eat, that they are omnivores, that so far they are the only know reptile that can heat themselves up, and how cute and green they are as babies. :) And that with proper care (which is a lot of work) can be amazing and very friendly pets.
Yes, and black/white is the nicest!! about the size ,let me tell you I use to see, here in Argentina crossing the route 7,they are 6 feet + !!! They are CHAMPS!!!
Righteous video my man 🤙🏻 At first I thought you were holding an albino ⚫️➕⚪️ Gila monster 🦎 Turns out it was a Tegu. That’s crazy they can do that with their tails 🤯
The armoured sausage can see in to the UV end of the spectrum. Several channels to the left, at Clint's Reptiles, I heard a report of a tegu becoming agitated the first time it saw its human in direct sunlight, as presumably the human looked completely different when seen under different lighting. Clint also has a neat video on target training his tegu.
This is all too true. This exact scenario has happened right in front of me. And I must say, it was terrifying. A tegu raised indoors can or will be a completely different animal when brought outdoors.
@@animalesteemexotic From the lizard's perspective, everything suddenly looks super weird and scary. They need to get used to the idea that the two versions of their friend, which are completely different colours, are the same creature.
Your tegu has an amazing temperament. Great video as well, actually learned a bit more! Tegu's have been on my wishlist for some time now because they basically can be puppy dog friendly giants. But their size is just too large for me to be able to build a decent enclosure so I've just been with my beardies for now. (although 4x2x2 beardie tanks can cost a lot, it's still relatively better to build them yourself for 150$ rather than buying them for 350$)
Thanks. Yeah, enclosure size is usually the biggest issue with these guys. They just grow so fast and they end up getting re-homed all the time. But hopefully things work out where you can have one soon.
The best strategy would be to get her to hold one of these guys. That will melt her heart. If you can't do that, you can show her videos of how loveable these lizards can be when they are well trained. Titus here is an expert at this sort of thing😊.
Well, your 3 cats might be a bigger issue than your wife. I had a Tegu for almost 5 years, pretty chill girl, she let us pet her, even learnt to walk on a leash. The only issue we ever had is that she just couldn't get along with our cats. A the end I had to rehome her to avoid causing more stress to her. Luckily I found her a really good place.
@@JustChillingOnTattoine Thanks for the advice. It means that, actually, my spouse is right (like most of the time)...but makes me sad...i love my cats, but i would love so much having a tegu...some day
Do they can bite like real bad? I am already familiar with reptiles, fishes, ect, And opposite at most ""collectors"" I treat mine like humans that I would love(few out there.) And they have full jungle heated size bedroom to live in, often out in summer and also in the house roaming around if I'm around. So for that much respect and love received any chance that monitor give some back by not chopping my nose off or skin off one of my finger? Yours look amazing and happy!
Tegus can deliver a pretty damaging bite. It will more than likely put a person in the hospital. It would be great if they would return the favor by not biting. But even though we show love and respect for them, the danger of being bitten will almost always be present. Sometimes they may not want to be handled, or they may have a strong feeding response, which could lead to a bite if we are not careful. So, no matter how much love we give them, it won't guarantee that they will never bite.
We've got more videos about black and white tegus coming. What do you guys want to know about them next?
It's a good thing that Black and White Tegus are so cool and sociable.
Damn Titus is such a good boy, long tounge flicks, no freaking out cause your holding him. Ty for the upload 😀

Beutifull T shirt !! Congratts 4 your job!!!
Thanks for the support!
Probably my holy grail dream reptile that I know will never happen, but I dream anyways

Love the channel! You are interesting listening to.
Just one little thing; please, please, please give the measurements in kilograms/meters as well? 😁
Thanks, and I sure will👍.
"teju" [te-jú] It means lizard in Guarani, which is the language of the area where they originate.
That is very interesting. I would have never known that. Thanks👍

I love how they have pink noses like a skink or a kitty lol
Do these lizards like chopped hard boiled egg?
Yes they do. I only give them to him occasionally though.
I have only one question about those beautiful guys: How can I convince my wife that I need to adopt one? (we have 3 cats and a bearded dragon)

You're wrong. The Red tegu is the biggest of them all. Red, then black&white, and then last is the blue tegu.
I actually forget they're the heaviest. Thanks for the reminder👍
Reds can be the heaviest usually from over feeding but the B&W is the longest and can weigh up to 20lbs pre brumation.
Ummm that's genderphobic! Tegus can identify as anything they want to! They are not binary creatures! LOL! They are beautiful animals though!
You may want to check with a dictionary how to pronounce South American countries
No kidding😅
