So many good plays, a lot of the goal tenders in particular. But any pitches that catches that line drive straight to the skull has a special place in my heart. Not just reflexes, but survival instincts. Lord knows theres been more than a few fallen to a ball to the dome.
Is it just me or are all of the basketball clips a bit lackluster? I'm just not as impressed with what people think are crazy plays in basketball. I think the amount and variation of skill in football, baseball and hockey leave me feeling like most basketball players are simply really tall dudes with the ability to accurately throw a ball in a hoop they are naturally closer to. It reminds me of if a bunch of short dudes had to keep each other from dropping a golf ball into the cup, but without contact, ice and the edge of the green was the boundary for play.

I usually have the same reaction too, for most shots but especially dunks I have a really hard time telling the difference between what's supposed to be a run of the mill play and what an exceptional one is supposed to be. Doesn't help that for the average game, the ball goes in the basket anywhere between 50-70 times.
I personally think the defensive plays are more impressive than the offensive ones because you have to either react or predict what the person is going to do, the offense have practice it a ton

Wrong, dirt is to help you run, it's not the basepath. Basepath is 3 feet to the side determined by when a tag is attempted. Because the tag was attempted near the grass, the new basepath can cut into the grass. Edit: look up a highschool game where a kid took a lead off first into the outfield. Because no tag is attempted he can go wherever he pleases. Once a tag is attempted he THEN has a 3 foot wide line to make it to second. Yes, the rule is the same in MLB.

The line drives that come back at the pitcher make me cringe. When I was younger maybe 13-14 and was playing ball with some friends I took a line drive to the right eye, I was busted wide open and broke my orbital. took 12 stiches to close the wound and felt like a life time for the pain and swelling to go away. now every time i see one heading for the pitcher, I remember exactly what it felt like and try not to watch it happen on tv.
while playing a pick up game one of the guys pitching took a softball off the forehead and pretty much instantly had a hematoma bigger than the softball. he tried to play it off when he collected himself but collapsed while walking off the field a minute later. that was pretty scary. fortunately (VERY), he suffered no fractures, no long lasting/permanent head trauma.
On videos like this why do they keep showing the Evan Longoria baseball catch protecting the reporter like it really happened? That was a gimmick set up by camera angles.
Great but nothing from over 20 or 30 years ago? Brook Robinson or Craig Nettles at third base or Ozzie Smith at shortstop; great running backs and escape artists like Sweetness and Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders; magicians with the basketball like Bird, Magic, Dr. J, Dominique, of course MJ; great NHL goalies like Hextall and Roy. No soccer goalies or tennis players either, although their reflexes are incredible. But still, this is a great collection!

The base running included here had so many moments where they had to turn around and back again in a quick reaction to the ball being thrown back and forth between bases. Same with jumping over a defender, that was a split second decision that was made without any forethought. Ball fakes might not be reflexes on the thrower's end, but they did fool everyone and make them act on their own reflexes, so... All a reflex is is a knee jerk reaction to something in the moment without any thought. Just instinct.

I love all the commentators on the baseball games saying it's self-defense. Yeah, no duh. You have a baseball flying at your skull at 95 mph, you don't have time to think. I'd shield my face too.

I don't understand why most of the basketball and football clips chosen are in a montage for reflexes, the dribbling and spinning shows off great control and technique and the jumping over people shows great athleticism but what the hell does that have to do with reflexes?
