Nah, to me it gives me an equal but opposite sensation to the one of the backrooms. Sure, it's a huge empty building that is uncanny for not being inhabited, but it doesn't feel eerie or creepy, just calm and familiar and full of potential.
Especially the black room, that shit always gave me the creeps, though it's good for making good horror films. It feels empty, strange, almost from another dimension, but to me, now it became a familiar map, like Dust_II back in 2004.
That map is fun, but something odd I found (might have been just my experience) was that the height and general size of the border was decreased greatly instead of being the size of flatgrass but merely adding a few extra meters to construct.
It actually makes a lot of sense if you consider the name "Construct." The video man didn't seem to catch on, but the couch in a white void from the first version of gm_construct is undeniably a reference to The Matrix. In that movie, they also have a featureless white room with comfy sofas that can load in any desired object. And the room is called... "The Construct." I always figured Construct got its name from players "constructing" their Source creations in a basic environment, but it turns out it was actually originally intended as a reference to one of my favorite movies all along. Just wanted to mention, the part about the GMod 12 version hosting the most popular GMod videos. The most popular GMod machinama were released prior to GMod 11. The video you previewed was released in 2008, which was a great year for GMod, not just machinama. Unfortunately those days are long gone.
This video was pretty cool but I wish you talked about the versions of construct that were made later on. I especially wanted to know what was all about that secret beta version that had underground tunnels, made for GM13. But still, great video!
Seeing some of those old versions of the map... reminded me of the old War of the Severs movie made with the older versions of Gmod. That was a nostalgia trip I didn't expect to take.
For some reason seeing the beta version with the catwalk inspired me so much that I made a whole new section to my gmod map immediately, which as someone who spends 99% of their time in the hammer editor flying around thinking about things they probably should make but don't, is impressive.
What i kind of miss from the older versions are the garage with vehicles, the colored lights room, the grass plants, more sand in the terrain and the darker atmosphere many of them had.
As i can understand, map always turnes bigger and bigger in every update and finally in gm_construct13, the buildings that nearly right behind of the map has been added. Isnt that would be good that the map having an update after 7 years and adding the condos and some grass with catwalk that left of the apartment that next to warehouse. That would be awesome! And CPU killer :(
I remember the first time I played gmod very clearly. I opened gm_construct and the first thing I ever did was spawning in a chair and using a physics gun to move it around. I will never forget that moment.
This map just seemed so empty and barren to me, almost kind of scary. But it still gives me a sense of nostalgia for some odd reason even though I played this map when the map looked how it is now.
