I believe the title is confusing. The moulding sand is a mixture of sharp sand and a small amount of liquid sodium silicate (= waterglass). Sodium silicate hardens due a reaction with CO2. This is what you see in the video. The former puts the sodium silicate /sand mixture into the mould, and compacts with a wooden stick. Than he injects CO2 as a reaction agent. The mould is now a very good relatively hard mass. So the mould is not of silica/ CO2 but instead made of sand with a sodium silicate binder.

My dad worked in a foundry, he had serve burns from metal falling into his shoes and not being able to get rid of the molten metal quick enough it gave him deep burns, not just from the molten metal but also the chemicals present that eat away the skin. Sure, sandal and heavy objects is bad but the molten steel.. I dunno lol I ran around my dad's foundry bare foot, no safety gear, etc and I was about 5-7yo 🤣
#1 takeaway : people in sandals rule the world.
@2:19 I was wondering why customer service was so loud.
Its like a glimpse back in time to pre-middle ages. All the bare feet working around molten steel. And the guy jumping on the mold, packing down the sand with his bare feet. Working with crucibles of molten iron without any personal safety equipment, pure hilarity. Next time OSHA shows up at your workplace breaking balls, break out this video and say "hardhats? Eye protection? covered up bare skin? Footwear? Aint nobody got time for that!"
I'm not sure if I should be impressed at the amount of work and the heft of these guy's balls to do all this and in sandals no less....or upset if they are forced to do so because of the state of things.
The one guy running a call center asking people about their expired car warranty while stoking the fire. Brilliant multitasking.
I don't think modern technology is a blessing for these guys
Great skills and team work, well done guys👊
