In Australia the product to use is orange solv which you can find at commercial cleaning shops or orange power which is available in coles. To be found usually top shelf in the cleaning section.

I've had luck with cheap catalogs as well. The effect is more translucent. I sprayed it on and got great pastel colored paper for collage.

fantastic ideas, Gary. I want to see the results from your experimentation on the larger piece. LOVE the "edges" idea. Thanks, Diana

The flimsy Sunday magazines in newspapers work great. If they even have those anymore.
Brush on and close magazine to dry

@SassyNpinkable Honestly I don't know how archival it is, it hasn't really been used for along period of time. I came across the technique and wanted to try it...and so I did. Like many techniques I move on, so i am not using it any more...but that is not to say I won't. I would say it isn't very archival but then most of my work isn't. I use lots of materials which clash and react so who knows what will happen in100 years! We all create art for different reasons, I do it for myself!

I love that giftwrap idea, it's awesome. I've got to try this Citrasolve idea, the holidays are coming and I could do some handmade gifts for friends. I can't wait to see how your canvas turns out. Two thumbs up!

I have found a product with the same ingredients called Orange TKO Natural Orange Cleaner. I have not tried it yet (need to find a National Geographic Mag).
Also the Citra Solve webiste has an entire arts area... showing what others have done with citra solve. Pretty cool.

@SassyNpinkable OK well seriously I doubt it is archival at all, but then you as an artist have to decide on whether that matters or not! I love the product although i don't use it any more or the technique. It is fun to play around and experiment with different materials and ideas regardless of how archival they are...it can lead to new discoveries and ideas.

Gary- I have found another product called TKO that is just like CitraSolv and you get a bit more for your money and can use less of it and get the same results. Just Google TKO and it will come up. I love your ideas- I did this a few months back and haven't done anything with the pages so thanks for prodding me along! Can't wait to see your canvas results! BTW- I did some with turps and let them sit overnight- covered do they wouldn't dry out- and they came our pretty well also- just stinkier!

I gave noticed that we all sort of get very similar papers over and over. Obviously the ink combinations on pages is repetitive. Light colors the hardest to acquire

Waxed paper could be good too. I buy it in the supermarket and use it with inks but i would work with the citrasolv too.

Heard about this, but didn't know the process, so your video was wonderful. I do have a question that I haven't found the answer for, if you use it as a background and want to embellish it, do you need to spray with a fix it?
I have so many ideas after watching your videos it's a good thing I'm retired and have the time to try them.

  • @Telekon5

I love the effect but I do wonder about the archival quality of certain techniques. I don't want to sell art to someone if it isn't going to last. Anyone have any thoughts on such matters?

  • @Engelhafen

Copyright laws state that a work that is altered are no longer covered by copyright - and it doesn't need to be altered much.

Just wondering about the archival quality...does it keep eating away at the paper and people buying artworks may be disappointed when it dissolves away in the frame. How long have you been doing this?

How come you never answer all the questions about the archival quality of this technique? This is one technique I wouldn't put my name and reputation on that's for sure.
