    Sold my my Canon 10-18 ef-s which I used on a 7d mark II. Now I use this lens on Canon 6d and I'm happy with the sharpness of this lens.

    That is a cine lens so the apurture ring being manual and the focusing ring being realy long are actualy advantages

    I have the 10mm cropped frame version which is pretty much equivalent to this one on a full frame and I was blown away by its sharpness. It's extremely wide so I thought of getting this 14mm one I didn't know it's a full frame but now you relaxed my craving so thanks :) I highly recommend it. Learning to manual focus has big advantages!

    Everything you listed as a "Negative" is what I NEED a lens for when out shooting HDR! having an AF lens that is constantly hunting Focus is a Bitch in the field when Sharp is what you need! not a lens that does all of the thinking for you! a Long Focus Pull is for NAILING Focus! no one using this lens is shooting Sports

      Absolutely, I really want a lens that I can fine tune the focus to get exactly what I want, and this has much better control than a super short throw focus ring.

    The Rokinon 14mm comes with or without the AE chip to focus. So, potential buyers who want the auto focus you do have the option however, it costs roughly a $100 more than the one without the AE chip.

    Focusing a lens with a long throw is easier to focus accurately than one with a short throw.

    The long travel on the focus is because it's a cine lens. Samyang's equivalent also has unstepped (no click) aperture ring for smooth cine aperture adjustment. It's no big deal. Just intended for another use. You'll get used to it.

    I have a Canon 6D2. With no electronic connections will it confuse the camera body and think no lens has been installed? I have no problem doing focus and aperture manual adjustments on the lens. As long as the Canon body is happy with it.

  • @mzzah06

    It’s a prime lens. Changing the from 2.8-22 stop is normal to do in that way.

    • @KazCanning
      @KazCanning  4 роки тому

      A prime lens doesn't mean that it's a fully manual lens. Most prime lenses I've owned actually have the aperture control through the camera like any other lens

    You should probably know never to put a polarizing filter on an ultra-wide lens, or even on some mildly wide lens like a 21mm. You will see the beginning and the end of the filter's effect in the sky on both sides of the frame. So, that should be a non issue for this lens! As for ND filters, bracket 5 exposures and do an expert HDR merge in Photomatix Pro or something like that.

    • @KazCanning
      @KazCanning  6 років тому +2

      I have actually shot with this for real estate stuff! It works fairly well, and there's really not any other lens that can compete with this one at the same price point. With that being said, there is a slight distortion, not bad but there is distortion. And a tilt shift type lens would be an ideal situation for any sort of architectural type photography.

  • @henryposadas295

    I think the lens was intended as a cheap psudo cinema lens alternative. The "negative" features you mentioned are actual features needed for cine lenses. (BTW, even non cine lenses in the past used aperture rings as all cameras then where fully manual). The lack of ability to screw on filters is not also a problem for cine lenses as Matte boxes are used to hold filters. The thing that makes it not a true cinema lens are the non de clicked aperture ring and the built in lens hood. I also dont know if it is part of series of lenses that have same diameter size.
    Rokinon does offer real Cinema lenses that have all the features needed for cine lenses. This seems to be geared for those who take both photo and videos, using DSLR cameras.

    These lenses are not made for photographers, they have F stop versions that are. You’re reviewing a cinema lens that is made for video. So all your negatives are completely null.

    • @KazCanning
      @KazCanning  3 роки тому

      Absolutely not true. This is a low budget photography lens. If this was a video focused lens, it would me measured in T stops, not f stops, the aperture selection would be declicked, and it would have grooved focus and aperture rings for follow focus. Not to mention Rokinon literally released a cinema version of this exact lens a while after this one was released, it features all of the previous points I mentioned. So no, this is not a cinema lens

    This lens is made generally for Astrophotography..The minor details of, no auto focus, manual aperture ring, are nothing..barrel distortion and chromatic aberration are also nothing and easy fix in software..i wouldn't use this lens for daytime photography but for the stars it's brilliant for the price.

    Decent budget astro-photography lens and works well for landscape shots in broad daylight with plenty of sun. Not usable for much else from my experience. Horrendous in low light and oddly bad indoors even in decent lighting despite being a 2.8. Video is terribly shaky even with slow pan, have to use a tripod if you want any kind of stable video with this lens. Build quality is solid and it feels like a more expensive lens. Love it for shooting night sky and some wide angle weather and cloud shots, but don't find much use for it elsewhere. It is a "bargain" lens and I'd suggest trying to get it used vs. paying the $300-400 new.

      Kaz Canning, thanks. I have a Canon 5d MkII and several lenses and I am considering a Sony A6000 for those times when I want to travel light. A good mount converter could be very interesting to me.

    • @KazCanning
      @KazCanning  6 років тому

      The a6000 is definitely a good choice for a small light camera! Just keep in mind, the adapter won't make the lenses work perfectly, especially compared to a body like the 5dmk2. But don't let that keep you from getting the adapter! Just make sure you check out a few examples of the adapter actually working, or even if you know someone with a sony camera and canon lenses adapted, check it out and see how well it works.
      Also, the sony kit lens has been working better than I expected. I made a review on it, comparing the kit lens to a canon 24-70L on a sony a6300 (also a crop sensor like the a6000) check it out, I think you'd be suprised with how well it works overall.

      @KazCanning  5 років тому +3

      Yepp, it should work great! Two things to keep in mind though, because the T6i is a crop camera, the lens will end up looking like a 24mm lens. Second, the lens that I showed here is a manual focus lens, so just make sure that won't surprise you!

    Dude the Samyang 21mm f1.4 is the boy... Especially for Astro.. A no brainer. Never buying a native lens again...And who gives a fuck about auto when shooting astro ?? Money saved means I can buy another 2 lenses.. Sony and Zeiss are taking the piss..As usual all about the label... Done with their extortion... Total arse sauce...Because its made in Japan ?? Lol... I am guessing Samyang/ Rokinon will take the lions share of the market..And this is in the field usage... Too many gimps plugging expensive glass...

    • @KazCanning
      @KazCanning  6 років тому

      The distortion is odd. I wouldn't classify it as "bad" but I wouldn't say it's "good". It has something called Mustache distortion, so straight lines in the scene aren't pin cushioned or barrel distorted, it's a slight mixture of both. But for outdoors stuff, it's not perceivable at all.
