Ice Climbing Fail

  • All ice climbing isn't about getting to the top, but about the experience in itself. Which now and then might be a total fail. But each fail is a learning experience, and in this case I'll need to be even more delicate with my footwork, and stronger with my upper body strength. What an incredible test of fitness it is.

Oh dear Zoey, my biggest fear is going through life and wondering about the what ifs. I cannot go from good to great without continually learning and taking new steps forward. While I climb some big frozen waterfalls, and explore high altitude mountaineering, this was a little climb and the fall would have been minimal. Any bigger climbs I'm always roped up. I have too much to live for. Some risk keeps us moving ahead, and I do love the release of dopamine to the brain. High risk I really do avoid these days as I've gained a bit more wisdom. Find your adventure, dream big, go after it, fear not -we'll, maybe a little, but be wise!

This is at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois, believe it or not. There are other big pillar climbs, 60 - 80 ft or so, but this little thing here, well, I want to get back on it and do it right, smoother with better technique. Not sure where you live but the ice at the park should be good to go very soon with heavy snow coming then a deep freeze and temps below 0F.
