Silky has been building saws in Japan since 1919. In 1985, they introduced the Gomboy, a folding saw with a rubber-clad handle that became the forerunner of almost all modern pruning-style saws (which are often referred to as “Japanese saws” to this day).
The Pocketboy is essentially the Gomboy’s little brother, designed to be even more compact and versatile.
This special Outback Edition has been upgraded with a thicker and more rigid saw blade to better survive the demands and rigors of bushcraft.
The Silky Outback Edition hand saws feature a handle made of arbor composite which is a combination of wood and plastic.
It is supposed to provide more grip and control for wet, cold and game-processing conditions.
The blade is a straight-style blade as opposed to curved. It features 8.5 teeth per inch and Silky classifies this as a medium blade.
The teeth of the blade are heated and hardened to stay sharp three times longer than non-hardened teeth.
The blade also features 4 cutting angles along the blade for rip-cutting, cross-cutting and slant cutting, leaving a smooth surface every time.
The entire blade is black-plated with a unique, highly durable nickel/ tin blend that provides longer blade life and improved cutting performance.

It’s maybe the best tool an outdoorsman can have. Used mine today to clear branches to build a fence section for my cows. The sizes makes it always available. Small but mighty!
While I don't have cows, I agree the saws are mighty 🤣
Oh man. This is one of your best videos. I love the Silky saws. I have the Gomboy and it is like a lightsaber cutting through butter. It is so effortless to cut branches up to 6 inches in diameter. The branch you cut in this video is perfect for the Gomboy. You made me want to get the Pocket Boy Outback because it look so cool and compact. The Gomboy does take up some space in the backpack but the pocketboy can be worn on the belt like a large pocket knife. So convenient. Great video!!!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed! I enjoyed your Gomboy demo fieldtest!
Frickin love my 240 gomboy. Lost it and bought an f180 as a replacement, but found my gomboy days later. Kept both. When you say the saw takes up space, is that in the case? Ive kept it in one of the water btl pouches on my hunting pack with the lanyard securing it toward the top. Otherwise i found it to take up very little space
Very Good video, covered all the main points well including the replacement blades hopefully being available. I would add, be cautious using the blade clearing brush as you describe. I was doing very similar and one of the teeth on my Gomboy 210 snagged and bent out a little... this put a tiny little crack in the blade at the base of that tooth.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it.
I love the Silky Saws, but I have also used the Bahco Laplander for years, which is a great budget version - good review brother 👌
Be well,
Atb Gus 👍
Thanks! Heard a lot about the Bahcos but we don't get them here much. All Silkys since we are in Asia I guess.
I have 2 pocket boys (red handle and blue handle, fine and medium tooth) and decided to go to the Gomboy for my Outback version, stepping up in blade length. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Bahco and Silkys I have.
Thanks for sharing! I've been happy with the Outback so far. Use it constantly!
I own all 3 saws in the Outback edition. I love them so much that I would rather use them instead of my 4 chainsaws. I loved your tip for the flashlight carrier. If I didn't own the Silky saws, I would go out to buy them because you made such a great job with your video. I hope they come out with the Katanaboy in the Outback edition to complete the set.
Thanks for watching and the kind words. I have the Big Boy Outback now as well!
Great review! Thank you!
Can you send me a link for this exact flashlight case?
Thanks. Check for similar one as this seems to be not available in the source I bought from as shared in the other comments www.aliexpress.com/item/32973170258.html

Just got mine, haven’t usedityet
Think you will love it!
Do the normal pocketboy 170mm blades not fit this?
I believe they should but this balde is thicker and has a different finish.
How can you, man! You cleaned the much vaunted Pocketboy Outback with a toilet bowl brush! Grr...! I'm mad! 😡 Just kidding... 😁 Just received mine last night from Lamnia. Boy, am I stoked? Oh heck, yeah! Cheers...
That's a toilet brush? I use that to clean my teeth...
@@urbanknifeguy You're gross...! 😄 Cheers...
@@normanyacob4235 Enjoy your saw!
@@urbanknifeguy I will... Thanks and cheers...
Can i know the pouch brand or purchase link pls
Pls see the pinned comment. Thanks!
Were you able to get a link to the pouch? It looks like a perfect fit…
They need to make a 130mm version
I personally think that would be a bit too small. The 170mm is the ideal for portability but yet functional to cut branches of up to 5" comfortably. Thicker with effort.
link for the pouch?
Check the comments please. Thanks.
There's a reason arborists swear by Silky saws
