    I got 2 Silky saws after I had to cut through a branch with a small Gerber saw made for cutting pelvic bones of deer and the like. It worked.... But.... I have to say they are the BEST saws I have ever used. Cutting branches with the Pocket Boy and even small trees (with a Gomboy) is a BREEZE! I can say it is as close to effortless as it gets. You have a great channel and a great deal of info on these fine saws. Cheers from the Southeast USA.

    I've been using the medium 170 pocket boy for fruit tree pruning - it's ideal for this. Way smoother than the US versions I've tried with no binding up in the cut. Wish I'd known about the Silky's 20 odd years ago. Good stuff!

    Hello, thank you so much for a great video! * ( I have some legitimate questions to ask?) >> I think I will be needing 2 pocket boy saw's. ( Perhaps both the Black handle and the Blue! ) Please share with me otherwise if you think differently? I will change my purchase order if so. My story: I am looking for saws mainly because I am involved in Bonsai. In Bonsai you will need a saw to cut in these different areas that your Bonsai tools can't handle. Very thick branches that may break your tools. The actual live tree when you cut off at the base , top, middle of a wide trunk base. Also, sometimes dead trees. And Lastly, to cut anything below the trunk, root balls that scissors cant cut, large roots, tangle roots, extremely tangled roots that you may want to split the tree into many smaller trees etc. If I cut below the trunk I will be needing a saw that will be, " sacrificed "to possibly get really beat up over time or even just one single use. For example. Anything below the main trunk system when you do any saw cutting you are also cutting into organic soil medium such as grit, sand, gravel, rock, etc. that are hanging onto the roots. Even if you clean it really well you will still have lingering organic material left. I can be working with small to very large extra large trunk trees in the future. All Bonsai of course. I am making my investment moving forward with the silky saws pocket boy's. Now that you know my entire story and what I will be doing....."Would you recommend the Black Handle and Blue handle both for what I am doing?" Now I have to know which blade size to get the 5 inch or the 6-3/4 blade size. What size blade do you think I should go with? Thank you so much for all you help and demo's! are fantastic!

      Hi, yes the Pocket Boys would be fantastic for what you are doing! You will want to go with the 170mm long blade and your pick of black and blue will be wonderful for your needs I think. 😃 Nita

    I am glad I kept searching for informative Silky saw videos and this is the most informative I have found because I just picked up the only one I could find in a store is the curved large tooth Silky Gomboy 210 but have not opened it yet as I just bought it today and not sure but now I may want to find one of these different colors.
    I love the blue but I think the black on a 170 might be want suits me best. Not sure what I will run into with Bushcraft survival.
    I will see if I am able to make a purchase from the U.S. but also gotta check price too .

    Now I know what secateurs are, cool. I was hoping to see the difference between the black handle medium blade, and the blue handle fine blade, when it comes to cutting on that green piece of wood in your video (the main piece not the little branch). I want clean cuts when I prune my young fruit trees, which have about the same size diameter branches as that green wood in your video. I'm still a little undecided between the medium teeth, or fine teeth. What do other fruit tree guys recommend? Thanks in advance.

    • @SILKYsaw
      @SILKYsaw  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for your comment! I would be definitely going for the medium tooth (black handle) The blue will be to fine, it will clog up, a bit like the way the purple one did. 😊

    I'm looking for an excuse to purchase a folding Silky saw for small dry wood up to 5cm but mostly around 2-3cm and dead.
    Should I stick with the Outback Pocket Boy 170 with number 10 blade or go for something more defined in this space ?

    • @gardensandtrees
      @gardensandtrees 2 роки тому

      You could definitely enjoy the fine tooth, why don't you get the blade (343-17) which will fit in your outback and then you can try it out and see how often you will prefer that tooth size? 😊 Nita

    I am a builder and I always want to add a folding Saw into my toolbelt for the occasional quick cut 90mmx45mm dry pine wood. What length and tooth size should I have?130mm is too short? medium teeth? Thank you so much for sharing! very educational!

    • @BradGryphonn
      @BradGryphonn 5 років тому +3

      I've got a Pocketboy. I think mine's the 170mm (oh, yeah, mine's the Yellow handle curved blade) and it will cut 90x45 easily. It is 'on loan' at the moment. The 13 will be fine if you're cutting the 45mm side. You'd have to go careful on the long side though. Also, the cuts that these things make are beautifully clean. I'd go the Purple, or maybe better, the Black handle. But Nita and Shenae will know better than me. They will definitely reply in the morning. Arborlab's customer service is awesome.

      Hi Alex, either length will work well. I agree with Brad, the Fine or Extra fine would be ideal for your needs. If your going into a store you will be looking for a Blue handle which is the fine or a purple handle which is the Extra fine. As you will know from watching the video the blades are interchangeable, so you can have a few depending on what you are cutting. But for now I think the Blue is where I would start in a 130mm. 😀 Nita.
