I tried the Dueling Shield with my Strength Faith build. Went to the underground roadside to test damage per hit on the enemies. I was hitting for around 540-560 toying between the heavy and fire affinity. Been able to fight everything competently in the DLC and in the base game on my second playthrough. Final boss was insanely hard, my usual build wasn’t cutting it. The Dueling shield with my stats just didn’t work, it wasn’t impossible by any means , but the trades still seemed tough with the time taken to get to 2nd phase taking longer than my previous build. I decided to copy your build , I found that i was getting around 100 extra damage per hit without buffs applied ! Idk why the Carian thrusting shield is so overtuned , but alas helped me finally defeat the boss
@@Illogicall yep , it got nerfed though LOL alongside perfumer x rolling sparks. I wanted a build that’s wasn’t too busted but tbf this took out a lot of the consequences
I started using the Carian thrusting Shield and haven't taken it off since. I use frostbite on mine and never looked at any other build for it until this video as I'm soon to fight the final boss .
@@JamesTheTurnbull its an inside joke, when the game had just dropped there was a site really close to the start of the game where you would encounter a pond and then on the pond there was some turtles, somebody put a message calling them dogs, and it just stuck lol
I don't see why people really complain about this shield. Sure, it takes less stamina damage on trades, but you can just use any of the aows that pierces the shield or weapons that can do that. Besides that, any shield that is at 79+ guardboost will take a beating to break if it is two-handed. The tools are there to break that shell open, compared to fighting a swift slash user.
Why quality instead of heavy? I'm doing more damage with heavy carian shield and 80 strength and no dex. This frees up some points and works better with clawmark in case you want to use offensive incantations sometimes (i like using the frenzied eye beam thing to snipe ranged enemies standing on roofs lol)
The backhand blade is the weapon to use for these, they shouldn't nerf this if there's literally another wepon that makes the shield a bit nerfed itself. Ive yet running this build to successfully defeat the backhand blade, it's the equalizer
Any vet of the DS type franchise is going to realize this shield setup is more or less gimmicky and mostly luck based. You have slow move sets yes faster than most big weapons but you leave a huge window to be parried and get wrecked if caught between animations so while it is pretty beefy not the best and I doubt they will nerf this when people start trying this in PvP or some of the more challenging melee encounters.
@FellixNoAmatsu I did, but when I try to add the Craigh Blade Ash of war it doesn't show the option for Quality, like it does in the video. That's what is confusing me right now

Gonna try this build out after work, even if it gets nerfed I think both of the thrusting shields are a cool weapon to use.
It won’t get nerfed it’s not that busted tbh. There are about 7 builds that are better.

Have you guys tried this on the last boss? I know shield+antspur is kinda the best build for it. This seems like it might be pretty good

Awesome build! I'm strength/Int atm. Def going to try Cragblade buff with Scholar Shield! *Just tired and they don't stack at the same time :(((
Been using this build for several days now. Its so busted and safe. Some bosses though still get around it but it is a very comfy build for sure!
I would imagine bosses with elemental damage still can be a problem?
You have to really suck at the game to abuse this.

Yes, as long as your game hasn’t updated to the said patch you are good, you just can’t play online

How are you able to get the quality infusion to show up? or does that one only shows up when you bring it to +25?

@Xephez quality comes with the whetblade in stormveil not gatefront. It also has heavy and keen

They did nerf it. You can’t put quality on it, but bleed still works great 🩸
