I tried taking my switch with me where I go. As a portable poppa too, four kids and done, I'm always at doctor's appointments, events, or places where I'm always waiting. I can't tell you how much judgment I get for playing games. I've had people say "grow up" "so you're playing your kid's toy" or my favorite, "what a bad example for your kids." It's sad, but it becomes annoying to have to even look at these people and I've stopped to prevent myself from mouthing off to these people that I will likely see multiple times, especially as it relates to school events. Kudos to you man. This video made my day and one day I'll take my systems out again.

@@THEKLEVER187 Sadly yes. Most of the time older women, only had one man come and say that video games were for kids. On the flip side, I get along with all my kid's friends because they like that I play games and when they are over we game for a bit then I leave my kids to continue on playing.

@@THEKLEVER187 To be fair it's the same with Dungeons and Dragons. I get the same comments/stares for that. I DM for a group, I also am a player, I have tons of books and people still think it's a kids game. My wife's friends think I need to grow up. But I've always liked gaming of all kids. It's been a real connection moment between my kids and I.

Sorry to hear this, sadly people don't understand gaming. Just remember gaming (unless your addicted) is always better than sitting on your phone doom scrolling, keep doing you man don't let anyone take away your fun

A few things: Love the hat mic.. Portable Papa's is a cool idea.. And I got an Ally, convinced my brother to get a Steam Deck and we recently were amazed at the sight of a fellow 30 year old dad pull out a switch OLED at the airport with no shame at all. I love what gaming has done to help me decompress to be better focused in the daily grind. Love the channel, keep live streaming too!

My main two gaming “consoles” are steam deck and more recently a switch lite. Love it cause I pretty much don’t miss any game and access to most things I want to play

Trusttttt I recently got these joy cons for the switch and they have changed everything. Mobbed M6. Imagine the compacts but with HD rumble, omicron mouse click buttons, and the Xbox D Pad. Oh and Hall Affect Joy Sticks. Im telling you now I actually having a reason to go back to my oled switch every now and again since getting the steamdeck.

I keep a retroid pocket flip in my pocket whenever i go out, if I'm sitting in line, the emulators come out. I would love to bring my legion go or a steam deck, but having something pocketable is so nice.

I think it all has to do with intentionality. When I used to doom scroll (no longer on SM) I didn’t even think about it. Time just disappeared through the cracks between my fingers and I was left wondering where my day went.
When I play a video game, I am intentionally sitting down and allowing myself to enjoy a story or some other artistic expression consciously, and am not being pulled into an endless loop of distraction.

I drive a Samsung zfold 3. I store it in my backpack lol
Also, really love the idea. I think I'll start taking my ROG ally with me more and enjoy the gaming experience. My only concern is battery life and the fact that because the Ally runs Windows OS you can't really do short gaming bursts.. Really hope that Microsoft will wake up one day and create a more console oriented gaming Operating system so it'll be easier to start a game session and stop it when needed.

I only have Twitter just to keep updated on games I’m interested in and nothing else.
In terms of mobile gaming, I don’t usually play games on my phone and I don’t bring my switch out and about. I usually play at home when I’m done for the day and wanna unwind.

I keep my phone in my left front pocket with the screen facing inward. I cross-draw the phone and have an immeditate view of the screen. I shouldn't say this but its pretty effective while driving as I God Hand the wheel with my left. I wear skinny jeans so extracting a phone a seated position on the right hand side using my right hand is much more difficult.
Though I like portables, between how neurottic I am and my chronic hand condition, I don't like playing at every chance moment I can get. I would fear getting my Switch or Deck dirty by playing during any portion of a cooking session. If I were to touch anything other than the console itself, I would have to wash my hands again before resuming play. Also, I would never place a handheld on any of my kitchen counters but I am just weird like that.
Edit: When you mentioned the UPS store, it became apparent to me that I stay vigilant and aware of my surroundings. Having your head trapped in any device is not good for preemptively assessing your situation. I don't go out often but I don't live my life in constant fear either, I just am alert when out in public doing routined/penalty stuff. With friends I tend to reduce my guard a little but I am always scanning my surroundings. Its probably less taxing for me as I have always been processing large amounts of visual information being a fisherman and CMV driver. I just don't want to be caught off guard, be forced into contact, harmed or at risk if I can help it when I only spend less than 20% on my week out in public. Is a few minutes of game time worth it over your own well being? I know it can sound outlandish but we don't know when we are going to be chosen, if ever, but I am sure we all want the best odds when it does. Everything happens extremely fast, say a drunk driver was about to crash into the UPS storefront. Would you be able to see the warning signs from those around you if you had your head trapped in your Switch? Its a stupid chance scenario but odds don't discriminate.

I don't keep anything in my pockets. My go with me bag has my switch, phone, wallet and personal stuff.
My stay at home system is my steam deck.
I have a 14 y/o son with severe developmental delays that in many ways is on par with a toddler. My breaks are few and far between. Handhelds have saved my gaming life

If you miss the haptic feedback with the Split Pad Compact, I suggest taking a look at the Mobapad M6 HD. It's not an officially licensed product, but I've been pretty impressed with mine so far. Also, be sure to order it with a "storage bag" (they call the case a bag for some reason) if you decide to get it. I have a Split Pad Compact as well and while I was happy with it, I missed the haptic feedback too. The Mobapad M6 HD has a similar form factor but feels better to use, and it has hall effect analog sticks. And this is definitely a personal preference, but I like its clicky microswitch buttons.

Had a situation where an older man told me I was just like his grandkids while I was waiting on my oil change and getting some Mad Max on the Steam Deck in. If you’re not a kid or you’re in this type of a business or of course, a professional gamer you have no business ever bringing these devices outside the house there’s way more to life, portables are great around the house for most people
