@@user-zc6ug3qh3z What's recommended is to feed cats a high-protein, complete (aka with all the micronutrients they need), meat-based, grain/sugar free diet. And to make sure they're hydrated and that they have energy and healthy BM. Mine have all the above. They are at a perfect weight, are full of energy and have glossy, silky soft coats. I contemplated a raw diet but it was not going to be feasible for several reasons, and this is the best we can do for them and for us at this stage. They are very well cared for.

One of my cats wound up with diabetes. I managed to control it with diet by removing all dry food and feeding only wet, 3 times a day. My other 2 cats weren't super keen about the wet food but I gave them each a smaller portion and then put down some dry afterwards (kind of like "dessert") to top up their fullness, also 3 times a day. I had to watch the dry though, as if my diabetic cat finished his wet food and the dry was still down, he would try to get it. Just a few bites and he had pee lakes again.

Wow this video shows up right when I’ve finally got my two cats to eat wet food in the last 3 days. The universe is crazy sometimes. It has taken 15 months but my cats will finally eat wet food. There have been times I wanted to pull my hair out because they were so stubborn and in the beginning would basically not touch anything (starving themselves) until I put their hard food out. But finally I have got their night meal as wet food and they gobble it all up in one sitting. I just want to tell all cat parents out there who are going through the process of transitioning- it will take time, but it can be done. I never thought my 2 would touch wet food but here we are. Now I’m working on eliminating the day time dry food and replacing it with wet food. We got this!!!!

Do a routine first! I make three meals. One before I go to work. A small snack when I return (which is still kibble), and a dinner before bed. Once you achieve that, then make the change, little by little. A bit moist with a small amount of kibble mixed in. The first few times it may not work, but it doesn't matter. Do not leave the food on the plate, if they do not eat, 15 minutes later you remove the food. If they are hungry, you offer them again. But if they don't eat,
is fine, at the next meal they will be more hungrier.

Now whenever I go shopping, I make a little “grab bag” of various brands and flavors of kitten food cans so even I don’t know what’s on the menu until dinner time. The only time I feed them kibble is if they’re still hungry between meals - they eat a ton since they’re growing so fast! • @kimfleury
      @kimfleury Рік тому +5

That's not true, though. My son got a kitten that his coworker heard crying in the middle of the night in a bank parking lot. Kitten still had milk diarrhea but was weaned. He also had worm diarrhea. My son got kitten vet care from his established vet, she treated him for worms, and recommended a mix of dry and wet in whatever amounts my son could afford. She prefers that they receive both, even if it's just a small portion of one or the other. For most people, that'll mean more dry than wet, but she prefers more wet than dry for a healthy cat. Her reasoning for both is that sometimes there are medical needs that limit the type of feed, sometimes all dry, sometimes all wet, and it's easier to transition if they're accustomed to both types. But she advised my son to give nearly all wet for the first weeks during deworming, because the diarrhea causes dehydration. My son did that, and the diarrhea cleared up. I fostered the kitten for the first months because my son was in the process of buying a duplex, and was working long hours, so I can vouch for the healthy kitty poo.

That's false. What's important when transitioning from one food to another (even between brands) is to take it slow. Mix in a little wet food and increase the amount gradually so the kitten's stomach gets time to adjust. Some kittens will be just fine with a sudden change, but it's better to do it gently in case yours has a sensitive stomach.

Informative video and so necessary. Cat parents need to hear this.THANK YOU❤️. I've educated many caring cat parents on this, who had no idea.
After a year and a half since losing my sweetpea kitty, I adopted an 8 yr old cat whose elderly 'dad' had passed away. She was healthy and strong but quite overweight, as her dad, out of love, had indulged her in dry kibble, though a higher-end brand. First thing I did was wean her off the dry over just a few days, which she seemed to not mind. I give her only wet with a little extra water added, and she eats more of the wet than her dad's daughter told me she gets when I came by to get her, but Im pretty sure its because the dry is no longer there. I only give her a few morsels a couple times a week as a treat. She is now, after six months, at a healthy weight, sleek, no more 'swallowed a basketball' tummy. Shiny coat snd clear eyes too. I've read that dry also can promote kidney problems as it very hi-carb and drying to the system.
Re kitties with tooth issues: My last baby had few teeth (18 y.o., had been a stray for years b4 I found him, and locals had left dry out for him). I gave him limited dry but because of the tooth issues I just poured a bunch into my small blender and ground it up, stored in glass container. Simply sprinkled just a little onto the wet. He seemed to like it.

My vet told me that wet food is not as good for cats because it can give more cavities... So I still get dry foods for dental care. My cats food has not a bowl of unlimited food but I give him a measured portion every 4 hours. When im not home, I have an autonomatic feeder for him.

Our cat was not eating, and when she did, she was throwing up. Tried several foods, probiotics, and other things, but nothing was helping. I did some research and finally we switched her food to a company called Smalls. It's all natural like a cat would eat in the wild. It has made my heart so happy. Multiple feedings so far, still in the samples box, and she is licking the bowl clean and no throw ups. I never thought I'd get so excited about cat food. To see her eat, enjoy it, and keep it down is such a joy.

Wet food lets bacteria to build up on their teeth which can cause kidney issues and cats are very prone to it. Also caused my cat gingivitis. The crunching of wet food helps them clean their teeth. There are also special cat gel that with one drop will help them to remove the bacteria and plaque

@@kawaiikanako71 generally if you have difficulty like this it is allowed to use lower quality wet food, which contains lot of aroma and other stuff appealing to your cat, just to make your cat eat wet food, and after that gradually giving better quality food. If she will start eating wet its best to throw away dry food form your house otherwise your cat will still smell it (their noses are a lot beter than ours) and is likely to do hunger strike just to get her delicious dry chips ;) other option is goinf for BARF diet, as a lot of cats love raw meat, but you need to educate yourself much on that matter or have contact with good nutritionist (preferably both).

You can't generalize, Jackson. Some cats, like my two cats, are grazers. They eat little, frequent portions a day. So wet food cans are just a big waste of food and money. Even little 100g bags are too much for them and I have to split them in two portions: one each in the morning and one each in the evening. For the rest of the day and night I leave out a single bowl with half a cup of kibble that they share.
I let my vets suggest me what food to give to my cats and they always tell me to stick with fish based dry food and a bit of wet food to help with hydratation and evacuation.
They say it prevents kidney failure in the long run.
One of my vets has a 20y old cat who eats fish dry food since she was a kitten.
Food is the only thing I disagree with you.

Cats are obligate carnivores. They NEVER eat grains (which comprise most dry food) in the wild. And being descendants of desert dwellers, they have a low thirst drive so must get a substantial portion of their water from their diet.

My husband and I rescued our kittens, (1 week old and 3 weeks old) they were so young and malnourished that we had to bottle feed and closely monitor them. From day one I have been really focused on keeping them healthy and making sure they have the nourishment they need to lead a healthy life and grow strong.
I tried to prepare for the day they would have to move onto wet food and honestly was incredibly disappointed and worried with the options that are out there. But more research and weighing options can help take the stress off.
It can take alot of work to find the right food, but its completely worth it. Sometimes the cheaper option has been the better option, and sometimes we have to sacrifice for an okay option until we can get the better one.
    Appreciate this video alot 🥰

We measure out 20gms (this is to last for 24 hours) of 3 different types of dry food which includes special dental and low fat ones. This we give her a little with each meal and if there's some left over after the meal she can go back to it if she's hungry between meals. We feed her 4 times a day, only a heaped teaspoon of wet food with a small amount of freeze dried high protein stuff crumbled on top. This has kick started her metabolism and she lost weight and stopped coughing because of acid reflux, with the addition of the high protein stuff she is a different, happier, healthier and more playful cat, at 13 she's like a kitten. Thanks Jackson for the idea of the high protein freeze dried stuff. The brand we get is Ziwi, a New Zealand brand.

In the morning the get wet food and Friday evening they get raw meat. Not to mention that they get some cat milk before everyone goes to bed.

My cat is very picky. She likes her wet food in flakes. I stir in a little water to make it saucy. She now eats most of the wet food because of the sauce. She does have a small bowl of dry food out at all times, as well as 2 bowls of water. I do this bc im very old and after i had a heart attack I was glad i left the extra water and dry food for her. After I came home from the 2 day CCU and stent procedure I found her hiding under my blankets. She had drank some water, ate the wet food and nibbled a little dry food while i was gone. I spent a lot of time laying on the bed with her just talking softly and telling her how much I loved her. The stray cats were very hungry and cried like babies when they saw me. The wild birds were hungry and set up quite a ruckus when i got home. I fed them all right away. Ty for the vid.
