ITS ACTUALLY AMAZING breh to see london.....BUSY LONDON ...THAT EMPTY !! I might have to go for a stroll real soon, this video is worthy of being viral world wide , I wont be surprised if this ends up on tv
One thing Ive always wanted to know about those stations that have platform screens...what if the driver overshoots the platform even just by a fraction...the doors won’t align up....the drivers must be very skilled to get the train to stop in the exact right place!
As an ex-Jubilee Line driver (before ATO), it was always enjoyable to stop exactly on the mark to line all the doors up. After doing it many times per day, it didn't take long to get good at it. If a driver overshot the mark you would inform the controller of your mishap and be told to continue to the next station and apologise to your passengers (unless you were the first or last train of the day in which case there were procedures for driving backwards). Now it's all automatic with ATO - much more boring I would imagine.
A great opportunity to appreciate the station architecture. Reminds me of an experience I had in college. I attended a large university that was divided into 3 campuses. The day before Thanksgiving my freshman year, the school was considered open, but all the classes were cancelled. So I took the opportunity to visit each of the campuses and explore the vintage facilities. Nobody around, just the sounds of steam pipes and mechanical equipment as I'm walking through these old corridors - absolute bliss.
When I was a child I used to design imaginary metro systems (actually I still do this now when I am bored), and they always had no people on them. Lots of people about spoils the enjoyment of epic trains.

@@DMC888 No it's not actually. Many (not all) tube lines run semi-automatic or ATO GoA 2 - the driver only closes the doors and presses a button for a few seconds. This system is present on the Victoria or Jubelee line for example. To the question: I wonder whether the ATO recognises a station closure and skips the station by itself (like the DLR) or if the driver drives manually through the closed stations Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_train_operation

@@fullsteamahead5109 The Metropolitan, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines are only partially automatic (Euston Square to Finchley Road/Hammersmith/Paddington is autmoatic so far) so the vast majority of these lines are still manually driven.

I lost my job, due to Covid-19, back in March last year and I worked in London then. Dear Lord, I miss normality
Not much chance of catching anything apart from a train!
The virus can be airborne for several hours inside a carriage...
@@ahpadt no....it cant be idiot. Dont believe Facebook u sheep BAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

The last time I went up to London was on 20 March 2020. I avoided the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, and will avoid them again when I next go back up to London because those are among the worst affected areas.
Here in Melbourne, Australia our trains, buses, trams are still doing a full service!
Everything over here has been dropped to at least half-frequency. I've never seen timetables so sparse!
NorthRailUK it does make some sense as less people will be using the service.
@@Dan_07 Yeah I completely understand and support that. It's just the stark contrast from the usual hustle and bustle of the typical morning commute - so weird!
NorthRailUK crazy world we are living in!
so weird seeing what used to be my everyday stations and platforms, completely empty through a video, like some weird dream
At least you're almost guaranteed the front seat on the dlr...I guess :/
Seeing Waterloo national rail station deserted was weird......with the distant clicking of a Class 455 Westinghouse compressor.
I would’ve asked if this was essential but if they think it’s essential or not it is essential to me cause it’s Ben’s legendary vids
It will be essential in 10 years or so as it’s a document of London during the covid19 pandemic.
the first lockdown was just surreal
Really has a 28 Days Later vibe going on here (but the trains are still running). So eerie...
Thank you . Trains here have a few more people, especially bnow that they cut back to late night headway all day.
great video, don't understand how the news is showing clips of crowded trains and platforms when even at 17:00 the trains are empty, are they just showing old clips or something
Thank you, this video is great, quite soothing to watch. It’s surreal seeing Waterloo like that at any hour. Also this is real journalism unlike the MSM.
Mainstream media: “packed tube trains, look at these selfish a-holes going to work, flouting the rules as seen in this one and only 5 second video clip we have.”
Beno: goes to every hotspot on the network “Hello...? Anyone...?”
Brave soul... Thanks for filming the Underground,
and showing us around 😊
Very nice n very intresting
Good very good but you forgot about the Dirstrict Line and Hammsmith and City Line and Metropolton Line.
S trains are too boring to film
@@benolifts Why are they too boring
I know all the 40 stations that are closed
Next time what about you do the London Underground Coronavirus services on the S trains
I was driving the train 803 at 22:28. Driver on central line 😭😭
This complete idiot surfs our trains on the Woodford loop.

Do the trains skip stations automatically or does a driver take control between these stations?
connectingwings it’s full manual control all the time, with the exception of the DLR which runs a driverless system.
@@DMC888 No it's not actually. Many (not all) tube lines run semi-automatic or ATO GoA 2 - the driver only closes the doors and presses a button for a few seconds. This system is present on the Victoria or Jubelee line for example.
To the question: I wonder whether the ATO recognises a station closure and skips the station by itself (like the DLR) or if the driver drives manually through the closed stations
Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_train_operation
All lines are automatic with the exception of the Bakerloo,Waterloo and city and Piccadilly lines. The stations are automatically 'skipped'. Its officially known as ATO STATION SKIP.
@@DMC888 not correct.
@@fullsteamahead5109 The Metropolitan, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines are only partially automatic (Euston Square to Finchley Road/Hammersmith/Paddington is autmoatic so far) so the vast majority of these lines are still manually driven.
My favorite is 2009, S, 1995, and 1996 stocks. My favorite bite is class 350, 321, 387, 171, 466, (And that class train from grand Continental railways that makes that “tick tock” sound)
This is so creepy to watch. I study aboard in the Fall of 2019 in London and used the tube all the time where it was packed sometimes. This just doesnt seem right.
this empyness is beautiful
12:00 The backerloo line is the best line in London! (Click on the minute mark before commenting!!! Also I don't live in London so I don't have say in which line is the best! I can say that I visited London and my favorite line was the Piccadilly and the Circle Lines because it took us to amazing sites! Also this is just a joke ;) )
No the Piccadilly Line is better!

Ghost Town by The Specials would be a fitting soundtrack to this.
Wooow, first time seekng this, those announcements sound like a evil movie scene
Did the train driver have to stop the train exact at the doors or was it automatically
Love it when the tube trains come in fast
Me too 🤩
23:34 hey atleast you can sit in the front seat
So true tho
23:42 what about now?
Surely London Underground must be loosing a lot of money, running near empty trains ?
I bet they're getting government funding.
Elevatorz Isnt the underground owned by the council ?
@@forza223bowe5 I'm an American so I wouldn't have any idea.
It's owned by the government.
London Underground are run by the government completely who are also running all National Rail TOCs for at least 6 months. They have a lot of money.
Interesting movie! Scary that the stations are so empty, even though it looked like that in Stockholm's subway too. However, now people have got enough of Corona and more and more people are traveling again.
This is 3 years Ago today how crazy is that
i quiet like the VF drive sounds from the tube trains adds to the video showing deserted station
straight out of an apocalypse movie
Those trains are actually accelerating way faster than NYC and Paris subways or even the new trains in Montréal’s Subway.
That’s interesting
The London Underground station has almost no people in there and the subways/stations are more cleaner and hygienic during this epidemic than the disgusting subway trains and stations that are not even clean enough, has more homeless living in there dirtying everywhere and is still has people riding on the trains going to work in New York City.
Just wait until you see the L line it’s always almost full even n the pandemic
at the time, London was fully empty and nobody on public transport. Heck! London was not even in proper lockdown like Italy!
Gosh. It's hard to believe that only about a month earlier the tube was so crowded we were complaining. Now, there is practically nobody!
Our metro (BART) closes at 9 pm now. It used to close at 1 am
nick the muni bus San fransico right? Here in London some lines are still being used. I live near the metropolitan line
tino.banana yeah cause our ridership is 7%
