With the Peninsula Campaign coming to an end, a new campaign begins in the summer of 1862 - the Northern Virginia Campaign. Frustrated by McClellan's unwillingness to re-engage Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia outside Richmond, President Lincoln issues orders to form a new Federal field army around Washington, designated as the "Army of Virginia." At its head is Major General John Pope, newly-arrived from the Western Theater to take command and hopefully spur the Eastern armies into action against Lee's forces. On July 19th, 1862, the Northern Virginia Campaign begins when Pope orders the Army of Virginia to begin its advance toward the vital railway hub of Gordonsville. Lee quickly reacts, reorganizing his army and sending the newly-created Left Wing under Major General Stonewall Jackson to meet Pope's advance. As the two forces move on a collision course with one another, the stage is set for the campaign's first major battle near Culpeper, close to Cedar Mountain.

I cannot wait for the entire 2nd Manassas campaign. For some reason it seems to be the hardest battle to research here on UA-cam. Thank you for everything you do in bringing these battles back to life.

@@WarhawkYT Dude im telling you i type in 2nd Manassas on UA-cam and get 1 or 2 5min videos with no real details. Definitely nothing as detailed as your videos. Soon as you post the battle you have yourself a new patreon member lol. Jkn ill probably jump on your patreon anyway.

I definitely enjoy his battle maps. He presents the terrain well, and he always tells good stories well like Jackson being confused for a farmer. What I think sets your videos apart is setting up the strategic situation. Not to say one is better than the other, any creator that presents CW stuff is great to me.

I've noticed and will commend the increased detail in the map, and there's been a clear progression in the quality of your editing and narration. From the beginning however this has been the most excellent and comprehensive rendition of the American Civil War. Especially being able to watch it unfold respectively!

You already covered Seven Pines, and now you're covering 2nd Manassas. Once you get to Murfreesboro/Stones River, Chickamauga, and Cedar Creek, you'll have hit all my favorite War Between the States campaigns/battles.

Good job with those European names!!! One you might have erred on, however is Krzyzynowski, which might sound closer to "Sheh-sheh-NOV-ski".
This one is a surprisingly good idea!!! I know a bit about Cedar Mountain and 2nd Manassas, but less on the build-up to these summer battles, with the political wrangling also going on on both sides.

I always get a little chuckle at the animation you use for the "appearance" of a new leader or his force on the map. I always hear a "boop!" in my head as the new placard springs up and into place!!! :D

Franz Sigel… oh boy… the guy that failed in the valley before David Hunter… how many Generals lost face before Phil Sheridan rode down the Shenandoah.
Sheridan would've pushed through Stonewall I think.
I know Kimball easily would've.
its going be another hard 2 years for the federal in the valley.
@@SoulKiller7Eternal i dont know about that. Sheridan had a massive number advantage and the Confederates had a different mission, threaten Washington. Kimball had success at Kernstown but was that really stunning? pretty weird circumstances and still didnt really wreck Jackson
Another job well done, 👏 I look forward to the continuation of this campaign. I also appreciate the drawn out orders of battle/command structures for the Army's, it would be nice to take a closer look at them outside of the explanation of the videos

As someone who lives in Culpeper, it's pretty surreal to see how it factored into the campaigns of the Civil War.
Love history !!!!! Especially American history hands down the way guys breakdown explain it go about it can get enough!!! To me is just gave me a clear vision why general Grant is one of American heroes right next to George Washington!!!! Keep up guys I appreciate your work!!!!

The battle of the 2nd Manassas was General Lee wait for Pope to make his move. Lee moved accordingly and smashed Pope when he made his move. Lee completely out fought Pope and it could have been a lot worse
