Life is not too shabby for David Gilmour...a whole ensemble of musicians and singers behind him and the adoring crowd in front (not to mention the beautiful cellist and the looks she gives him)....but it is all richly deserved....he has brought so much inspiration, originality, joy and beauty to our lives! My first album was Piper at the gates of Dawn and 40 years later I still stand in awe of Pink Floyd! The British Isles have given birth to so many great bands; Genesis, Zep, the Beatles, Yes..
While I could easily fantasize about being looked at so sultry-ly by someone as beautiful as Caroline Dale, I sadly suspect that in the absence of a conductor, she is merely confirming her timing with the obvious lead - Dave. Would be nice to think it was more, though, eh?
me too is speachles. i play this song on repeat tonite, 5 times, 10 times, 15 times. and i cant stop playing it. and david is so briliant and he coordinates it with the celloist so good, the basist, the oboeist...yes everyone. hes a masterpiece. loved the man since i was 23 years, n now im 43. n i never stop. no one makes me so high as he does. :) never did, never will! ur my hero david!!! love u man!
im 23. have spent half of my life listening to music and discographies. i have heard every one from avril lavigne to markita and debbie more, justine beiber to johny cash, johana bro.s to scorpions, almost everything all the bands and artists. But this is the best live performance i ever ever saw. respect and love for david gilmour and his team. i dont hate the new age techno music, i just love the old school artists too much to be able to have time for criticizing the new pop and hip hop..
I feel sadness when I listen to this version of High Hopes, its like lonely and Gilmour really feels the tones of the lyrics each time he goes higher. When he says "With friends surounded" at 4:35 sounds very sad and also "Forever and ever" at the very end.
What's amazing is the drummer hitting those bell notes completely out of time, picking up in the refrain in time and then going back to that out of time bell in the verses seamlessly. This whole performance is stunning.
This song is so unique just like my favorite band in the world. Syd ,Roger, David, Nick, Rick. They all did their part to create one of the greatest band of all times. No one is or was better than nobody. Floyd to me is all together or separeted. Roger solo is floyd, so is David as long as they do their job with the same musical quality than what they did as a team.
i was thinking about the same thing... this guy is too much, i mean music, lyrics, the way that the guitar sounds in his hands... absolutely magnificent!
im into this song so much, cant stop listen to it. its just so great and the eyes the celloist gives david always makes me so in love with her. fabulous song and guitarr from david and the cello playing beauty takes me with storm. :)
Looking beyond the ambers of bridges glowing behind us; to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side........... Beautiful song. I am glad I was privileged to live my life with Pink Floyd.
the silence between the notes is the dimension of bliss. & you can hear it if you know how...Pink Floyd in all its glory triggered people into...remembering... no matter how they played it, you felt it to yer very marrow, then, and still can...every note & all the silences therein, are golden, forever cosmic & Earth-bound, simultaneously....
L'essentiel de ce que je retiens de cette musique qui me berce à chaque fois, qui me prend comme tu me prends... et me reprend davantage encore, for ever and ever. Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young, in a world of magnets and miracles, our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary... The ringing of the division bell had begun. Encumbered forever by desire and ambition, there's a hunger still unsatisfied... Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon though down this road we've been a hundred times. The endless river. Forever and ever
This is beautiful with the stand up bass and cello! great acoustic version.. you can never go wrong with some piano and cello thrown into a song that is already a masterpiece.
yes it is . . One night, matbe ten years ago, my friend and I were in her car driving . .the song came on I said listen . .she pulled over .. After it was over she told me, "Greg, That's the best song I've ever heard." Inspired the f#*k outta her. Two years later we released our first album. This song literally made me what I am . . Thanks Dave and Polly . .
at 1:40 to 1:141 he makes such a typical dave gilmour face.. look at all the vids of when he was young and he keeps making that face. what a composition.
@jordanmanndude Actually the music for 'comfortably numb' was written a few years previous to 1979 by David Gilmour. The chord progression is unusual and a bit non-linear, and it also changes from Key of DM to key of CM, then back and forth again. It's simple, yet incredibly brilliant, the structure of this song. It creates a very powerful emotional atmosphere. Find his acoustic version of Shine on you Crazy Diamond for some his 2002 classical re-workings of that particular masterpiece.
I totally agree with you that Syd is a true genious, but whether Syd showed up or didn't at the recording session is immaterial. Just listen to the music and you will realize that "wish you were here" had lots of mystique on its own. EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO IT FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@11crespo Yes, I think it`s Michael Kamen. He leaded the Orchestra in 1979 at the Recording of The Wall Album and in 1994 at the Division Bell Album too.
@Smashinz2002 In Comfortably Numb, and you can play this on your piano or keyboard to demonstrate the effect.. but anyway, the chords are set up such that a tonal resonance is created.. sort of an up, then down, then shift.... and again, up then down. .but in a different key this time. . The effect is a penetrating atmosphere drone that to most people is interpreted as beautiful and sad at the same time. It's brilliant beyond words, I have no freaking clue how he creates music like that.
@mrduffy1100 Yes in fact they did. David Gilmour and Polly Samson(David's wife) wrote it together. And as you know David Gilmour is the lead guitarist of Pink Floyd. And yes I agree it is a wonder track, as is most of Pink Floyd's music.
@mcwolfus WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! David Gilmore wrote the song and it was released on "The Division Bell" in 1994. He wrote the song with his wife Polly Samson... Twenty years after the 1974 "Release" of the Chris DeBurgh version... which I STILL find NOTHING on.

The combination of these instruments and musicians in this song are unmatched. It is truly haunting sound when the Chello starts...AMAZING!!
How can a human being possibly give this video a "thumbs down"?! I'm fully aware that all art is experienced subjectively, but come on!
