This is by far his BEST solo ever. We all can play Comfortably Numb or Sorrow or On the Turning Away. Little bit of practice you can figure it out and play. This solo.... Bring Jeff Beck let him try... Nobody could play this solo. Forget about Slash or whoever you think is the best guitarist. This solo cannot be replicated. It is the best it can get. And that Tele... From the very first Tele to today, no other Tele sounded like this. Melted our hearts, screamed like this. I'm sure after this solo that white Tele said finally someone who can actually play!!! This is the best guitar solo ever. Not the album version, not any other version. This is it. We will never hear anything like this ever again. We're all so lucky to be able to listen to this masterpiece.
@@5yearsout I agree that this is a great solo, however I have to go with the studio version. That version is a little less "rocking" but it is filled with emotion and soul unlike any other Gilmour solo. This version is absolutely great and he is improvising quite a bit, but there is just "something" about the studio version that just penetrates my soul like no other. It is like it is telling a story. Also, the studio version is held together by the absolutely awesome bass line and lap steel guitar. Both played by DG as well. Long live the great David Gilmour!!!
The reason that solo can never be replicated exactly is that there is only one Dave Gilmour. He created music like nobody else. It certainly is the most evocative solo of all time.
You rarely ever here Gilmour rip a solo to an upbeat song and also in a major key. And he most definitely killed it here. Gilmour, hands down has the best phrasing on guitar in contemporary music.

Back in the day when Richard was alive and jamming like there was no tomorrow. One hell of a performance and the guitar solo at the end is one of the greatest piece of music ever made. David Gilmour ❤️
In this case, for Richard, there really was no tomorrow, sadly, this being his last live performance. At least he left it all on the stage and went out on a high note.
I can listen to David Gilmour play guitar 24 hours a day and never grow tired of him. The soul and emotion is unequaled. There are many other great guitarists I enjoy listening to, but none compare to the one and ONLY David Gilmour. The solo in this song is unlike any other guitar work I've heard him play. The tone is amazing!
The casual way he just starts that incredible solo at 03:30, knowing the expectations that everyone at the concert would have, people who grew up with this song... This guy just knows he is pure genius, one of the best that has ever been. And then he just delivers.
I will always love this solo at the top of my Gilmour list. It's probably his "jammin-est" improv effort that I have ever come across. Love the smile at 5:34 when he knows it sounded just right.
Gilmour's haunting voice always gets me, no matter what he sings. It's one of those voices that gets in your head, and you can't get it out. It's other-worldly, to try to describe it.
My favorite thing about David Gilmour: if you watch him play with no sound, you wouldn't think that much music would be coming out of his fingers as smooth and effortlessly as he picks.
The rhythm guitar player is a guitar genius in his own right, the incredible Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music. Every bit as good as Gilmour. What an incredible band.
3:33 I just love it when he looks across at the other guitarists, "Okay, boys, let's rock this on home." AND the grins on their faces. You can just tell they are DIGGING playing with the master. The only thing wrong with that guitar solo is that it should have gone on for about 20 more minutes.
"I’d rather hear Dave Gilmour playing one note and break my heart, than hearing Joe Satriani playing 300 notes and not touch me in any way at all." - Steven Wilson Here, Gilmour plays 3000 notes and shatters our hearts.

I wish Dave Gilmour would do another tour featuring more wonderful old Floyd tracks going back to Astronomy Domine up through More and Obscured by Clouds
Such a huge catalog of music to choose from. That he can take an obscure song from one of Pink Floyd’s more obscure albums and do THIS with it… just incredible. I love seeing Dave play the old Pink Floyd stuff.
To everyone else, there are 3 Floyd albums that are NOT obscure. To the band members, only the last 3 of their initial run that were basically Roger's first solo albums are obscure, lol. I'll change my mind when I hear David jamming to Two Suns in the Sunset 😅

What a solo!!! This is great even by Dave's standards, what amazing feel this guy has. The way it builds and builds shows why some songs need to be heard live. Rick looks like he's loving it too, what an awesome pair.
IMHO, after years of experience, he realized that the composition of this solo was not complete or too simple during the Gdańsk tour preparation and decided to end almost 40 years later what he started in the 70's. During that live, I have the feeling that he was sharing with the crowd the culmination of one of his work.

Does anybody else keeps rewinding from 1:50 and playing over and over again? His voice is so calming and touches the heart making you transcend to another place.
When I think of David's guitar work (live especially) 3 songs come immediately to mind. Fat Old Sun (Gdansk & Royal Albert Hall), On the Turning Away & Comfortably Numb ( Both Momentary Lapse of Reason & Delicate Sound of Thunder). Just incredible !!
Magnifique David Gilmour.....
I've listened to many different versions of this song since I was a kid in the 1980s. There are many variations of course but I think this is the nicest overall live recording of Fat Ol' Sun I've ever heard! Thanks to whoever posted it and thanks to youtube for carrying it.
Sing to me... Sing to me... Sing to me... Fabulous...!!!
Meu Deus!!!!!!!! Ouvir David Gilmour e todos esses músicos incríveis me faz tão feliz! Passei a amar guitarra depois de conhecê-lo. Beijos de São Paulo!
This is my favorite version of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. The instrumental jam at the end is just...tanscendent. If you get yourself to a quiet place, listen to this on a decent sound system, and close your eyes, try to think of a memory that makes you feel really peaceful and content. It doesn't have to be anything spectacular or flashy. Maybe it's just that you're nine years old, it's the first week of summer, it's early, you're lying in bed listening to the mourning dove in the tree outside your bedroom, the scent of hyacinth hangs lazily in the air, and the day is yours. You don't have to do anything except eat cereal and ride bikes with your friends. Maybe go down to the creek and chuck some rocks. Your present self hovers like a spirit above that scene as the guitar at the end takes hold, ascending higher, panning out, soaring, wanting to hold on to that moment forever. I am blessed to have many moments to choose from. When I listen to this song like that, the tears will surely follow, less from sorrow that that boy and the world as he knew it is gone, but more from gratitude that I got to live those memories. And much like the song, it's over only too soon. "We really did have it all. You know, when you think about it." -Don't Look Up
God bless you David and the painful past in losing Syd... I feel the angst in all Floyd tunes true love to a genius.. Roger Keith Barrett you are never forgotten...
@@thorgardhaugen2193 Then I give you this advice and quote the full lyrics from Rick Wright's one and only fully self-written song (Writing credits): "I am not frightened of dying Any time will do, I don't mind Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime" You might be familiar :) Think about it, Rick was one of *the* five people who helped an unbelievable amount of people out mentally - it's truly insane lol
Our 1st grandchild, a little girl named Marley, was born Feb 12th at 901 pm not breathing. The doctors and nurses fought for 20 minutes and resuscitated her, stabilized her and had her breathing via a ventilator. She was rushed by ambulance to a bigger hospital with a NICU over an hour away for treatment. All I can do now is wait and pray for her recovery. I listen to this song and think of the future and hope and pray our granddaughter will be happy and healthy
Tough to beat this version! So much heart and soul from each musician goes into each note. But...they always seem to put 100% into each song. So enjoyable each time i hear it! Gracias

Totally agree, there's no better guitarist.
The solo is AMAZING !!!
Gilmour is very lucky to still have a good voice. So many rock stars including Waters have lost their singing voice.
MMID303 true :( sadly most rock stars smoke or smoked, roger watter was one of them :(

Ben there done that.. fat old son
Just a beautiful rendition of one of those PF tunes that slipped under most folks' radar for fifty years.
Does anybody else keeps rewinding from 1:50 and playing over and over again? His voice is so calming and touches the heart making you transcend to another place.
Terrific rendition of my number one track, seen in live back in the day, excellent! Top sausages y'all. Bangin!!!
On my final breadth, I will be listening to this piece! Sing to me sing to me- and eyes slowly closes!
That is some long term planning !!
Subhranil Banerjee yes it is! and addiction to it list goes on!
I'd like to be listening to any old Pink Floyd when I leave this earth
This is so filled with emotions...AAAWW MAN!!!!!
David in a state of grace... and the band is totally digging it!
Amazing solo. Great song. He is so good at hitting the high notes.
Indeed the best version of this song, fantastic!
Did you listen to Fat old sun BBC sessions? it's worth the 14 minutes
i can't find it on yt tho
My favorite Gilmour song (and a top 5 solo of his)!
Absolutamente de acuerdo !!
this thee best recording I ever heard of this song, one of my all time favs, & I've been a Floyd super-freak since the 60's..!!!
this solo is just unbelievable i cant...
It´s the legacy of the God´s voice and guitar!!!
Magnifique David Gilmour.....
This is it. Best music ever made. 🎸 solo is heaven
I've listened to many different versions of this song since I was a kid in the 1980s.
There are many variations of course but I think this is the nicest overall live recording of Fat Ol' Sun I've ever heard!
Thanks to whoever posted it and thanks to youtube for carrying it.
RockWell Aim tu
Magic version!!
This is truly a master class in song craft. His solo frazing is without compare.....
The word is "phrasing".. not to be 'that guy', but there you have it. Otherwise, your point is well taken,
David Gilmour's solos are the best. He is the greatest
A Gilmour-solo in pure Major key (G ((D, F, C)), no Minor sentiment involved, is an absolute exception. Wonderful.
You know, when you think about it."
-Don't Look Up
Thanks Gilmour...
Please, Gime more...
Fat is the most beautiful Song ever
So calm... So emotional...
A masterpiece.
Outrageously good! Superb!!! I've been a serious Floyd fan for 45 years, and I just discovered this gem Today!!
David man what a gift you have .
God bless you David and the painful past in losing Syd... I feel the angst in all Floyd tunes true love to a genius.. Roger Keith Barrett you are never forgotten...
Shelter from Coronavirus in the darkest days in Spain. Thank you Mr. Gilmour!
The Lord of the Strings
gilmour is a absolutely brilhant guitar player, what a fantastic guitar solo!
That instrumental at the end is absolutely incredible :D
...aplausos a esse Mestre,gênio incomparável..magnífico te amo gilmor esplêndido. .Alexandre Brasil..caxias do Sul
going to have this at my funeral service, bliss
so sad to see Rick in his last big concert . . . .
Why is that sad?
I thought about that too, but it seems like he was having a blast... Just look at 5:24
Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.
@@arnoldlayne1424 because he passed away 2 years later 😢
@@thorgardhaugen2193 Then I give you this advice and quote the full lyrics from Rick Wright's one and only fully self-written song (Writing credits):
"I am not frightened of dying
Any time will do, I don't mind
Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime"
You might be familiar :) Think about it, Rick was one of *the* five people who helped an unbelievable amount of people out mentally - it's truly insane lol
Life is passing so fast . The song brings back lot of good and sad memories. Peace ✌️
I hope she is doing ok ?
I really hope that Marley is okay xx
My favorite human, besides Dad. And I miss you Mr. Wright 🌸🌼🍃
there is no words to describe this solo. He is like a god to me. All of his solos are amazing. but this... this is something else.
When the stage goes black and you know he’s reaching for one of his favorite axes....true bliss!!
Tough to beat this version! So much heart and soul from each musician goes into each note. But...they always seem to put 100% into each song. So enjoyable each time i hear it! Gracias
I´ve heard this version 1000 times and always I GET GOOSEBUMPS, I love the feeling that he transmits when plays that old guitar.
Its not the intro, the verse, or even the words. Its the guitar solo that makes me cry every time. Anyone else? Like really cry from a solo.
Quelle force, quelle magie, quel moment délicieux !
