  • No matter whether we are learning to Ice Skate for the Figure Skating disciplines or for Ice Hockey, agility and dexterity of our footwork separates the wheat from the chaff.
Crossing our feet behind to transfer our body weight adds a new dimension to our movement options for choreography and for game play.

Your videos are so helpful for skaters. I think this is the only tutorial for this step online. It's quite scary in the Rhythm Blues dance as there are three cross behinds with no push between. Thank you so much for this clear explanation.

I learn so much from your detailed breakdown of instructions and how you draw lines to explain the body or foot position. So helpful! Thanks for all your content. Please keep it coming! 😍

Is it wrong to execute this with deep knee bend?

      All knee bend depths acceptable.
      Depends on balance/comfort/style/function.

Question- does the front leg give a little push as it slides out after the back leg crosses behind? I’m so excited for this tutorial as I’m learning this skill now with my coach! Thank you! 😊

Good question. While we may achieve knee action which smooths the weight transfer at the critical point you mention, a “push” as in a function to gain speed is not possible.
Some may describe the extension or stretch away of the free leg in front as a push, which would be more of an instruction to “reach” into the point of the toe and push yourself/give effort to elongate the line.
