I read another review that said ground mount works as advertised but elevated mount messed up SWR. They also said with 25feet of cox no counterpoise was needed.
@johnmanz3397 I am working on getting my tower will have to see how it does up higher up does real good at 5 feet.
Thank you for sharing and taking the time. Questions: Any testing on what distance from ground should perform better on 20 Mts? Do you recommend to use radials for a better performance or no significant gain in your testing? Thanks for answering.
I think you can't go wrong with adding radials they will always help with the RX gain but mine is performing quite well without any...
100 bux is a great price for that antenna ,mineis good for 11 and 10 meter , I'll be needing one for 6 meter and I'm gonna build my own beams for 2 meter and higher ..... Take Care Mon Ami ....
You a trucker? I'd like one for a SHTF scenario but hopefully that won't be for a while.
You need to ground these with a couple of ground spikes or use some ground radials to get the best out of them.
Thanks I plan on grounding it better this was just for a test and I have to say I am pretty impressed considering it's just a few feet off the ground
I have this same antenna. I installed it on the roof of my house. I have a hard time hearing anything on 10M. I have not been able to make a single contact on it. The SWR on 10M is flat when tuned. When monitoring 80M and 40M, I can pick up TX every once in a while, but there is a lot of noise. I am a brand new HAM, so I am sure I have something set up wrong. I am beating my head against the wall.
10m is quite I doubt it's the antenna there just isn't anything going on the band, 40 meter is hopping though which to me 40 meter is this antennas sweet spot. Go to 7.268 LSB I have been hearing contacts all over the country...
Hello. I am a ham operator with 8 years experience. This antenna is more like an "end fed half wave" than the typical vertical that has radials. So...mount it near ground level with the coax going away from it along the ground. The coax will act as the counterpoise. You can try to ground the mounting brackett by connecting a copper wire to a stake in the ground. If it doesn't work for you like that, then you may need to check for a loose connection inside the unun box. Good luck and 73.
I just bought one of these. I didn’t push top whip all the way in
I use this antenna for POTA
I have a mount for my trailer hitch
For the money I think it was an ok antenna
I agree for the money not bad at all, does really good on 40 meters.
@@TheElectronMan I have not tried 40 but I will now
I do a video how I use for POTA soon
Give it a try, I am really impressed with it on 40 meters mine is basically flat SWR no tuning on 40. I have made a few contacts on 10 as well so it is pretty versatile for the most part, seems good all but 80. I can still tune it but not near as strong a performer on the bands above 40 meters.@@theramblingsoflarry9290
@@TheElectronMan A couple friends of mine opened a new park last Saturday . Longfellow park in St. Martinville , Louisiana they did real good on contacts ......
awesome antenna question can i use this on 6 meter ssb as well new subscriber
I have not tried it on 6 meters, but according to it's specs it should tune on 6 meters. When I get a chance, I will give it a try.
All of my Dummy Loads are pretty much Flat across HF,VHF,& UHF but they don’t talk worth a Crap. How well does it talk?
I have talked on 10, 11 and 20 meters and all them performed well especially considering I am only like 5 feet off the ground as soon as it warms up I am going to put the antenna up about 25 feet. I am anxious to see how well it performs then..
@@TheElectronManJust wondering, Did you get antenna up any higher yet. I just ordered one that will replace my wire antenna.
Not yet been waiting on the weather to warm up which it has now hopefully here in the next week or two I will, but it still doing really good 5 feet off the ground@@MrSirPhase3
@@TheElectronManExcellent. I will set mine up between 5 and 10ft off the ground and see how it does.
This is cable rg 8 or rg 58 thanks for information.
Actually it is RG-213 which is basically a low loss RG 8.
@@TheElectronMan thanks for information see.
Why did you Skip over 12 & 17 meters? I much prefer the WARC Bands since there are No Contesters.
Good point I also skipped over 6 meters which I have since found it tunes well... I need to go back and check those bands as well..
@@TheElectronMan 6 meters is my Favorite Band so good point.👍🎙
No instructions with this thing. How far in should the steel whip go during assembly? Just down to the lower set screw?
I know right! I started there but ended finding about an inch before it bottoms out seems to be the sweet spot on mine 20 meters is pretty much flat SWR.
@@TheElectronManmine doesn’t bottom out. It will go all the way into the fiberglass tube until I run out of whip. 😀. How much whip do you have sticking out? My sweet is crazy high on all bands.
@caroleemoreno8086 I bet all the way is way to much put like 5 inches in and tighten it there.
Probably a wise idea to have an extra one in safely packed away in a faraday cage.
When checking swr u turn ur mic gain down and run ur carrier. The only time to whistle is when your checking watts on a dosy watt meter lol. Silly cbers.
I would hope that is a given sorry if my video did not make that clear and when I am on SSB there is no carrier! But all my meters read power and SWR at the same time so when I am whistling, it's for the peak power output not SWR.
It was designed to be mounted on or very close to the ground. Mounting it high will probably make it perform worse especially with no radials.
Interesting, I will have to do a second test once I get mounted on my tower
How did you fix the 1, 35 metre steel whip at the top? How deep inside? There is no mention in the manual of what to do...maybe for SWR adjustment how?
There are ZERO reasons that anyone should EVER Whistle into a microphone. It makes ZERO difference how much power you put out when you whistle since NOBODY communicates by whistling. {:>(
I guess you've never heard any digital modes before.
@@vhfgamer If it’s not Phone it SUCKS.I don’t want or need a computer making Any contacts on my gear no matter how Rare the other stations may be.If I can’t work them on Phone then they will not be in my log. It’s worth doing it Right or not at all for me.👍👏🎙
@@1OFGODSOWN Meanwhile, some of us do enjoy using digital modes. Especially those of us who like to challenge ourselves to make really far contacts with as little power as possible. And digital modes sound an awful lot like whistling. So whistling into the microphone is a very easy way to test power out in a very realistic way.
Your blanket statement of "zero reasons ever", "Zero difference" and "nobody communicates by whistling" are not exactly accurate.
Switch to rtty, push the mic button (FM works too)
