@@KO4RXE-WRMR358 Amazon uses supply and demand in there price. The more people that look at an item then the higher price goes up. Iv seen this pole from $50-250 since this video and it changes all the time

Note : It's best to put a loop of coax just under the connector to stop the weight of the coax pulling down and creating a break in the inner conductor and stopping it from working.
In short, cable tie a loop of cable so there is no weight on the coax plug.
So at first I had the loop and I got crucified for it an now I keep hearing I need the loop. I can’t win for loosing
@@JDubbsadventure Well it's quite simple.
A coax hanging directly on the plug will cause the inner conductor to break from the centre pin of the plug. It stops working.
It's standard practice to put a loop and take pressure of the plug.
If it's not convenient to do it right under the plug then do the loop 16 inches down. The whole idea is to stop gravity and the wind from rattling the mechanical joint between the inner conductor and the plug centre pin.
Oh, and don't think that lots of cable ties will fix the problem either. Gravity and temperature change will still break the connection.
Does that sound logical ?
@@JDubbsadventure keep the loop large. Coax breaks of the loop is tighter than 1-2 inches. Make the loop huge like 6-8 inches so there’s no chance the coax will break inside.
@@adelarsen9776 If you look, he has several cable ties and the hose clamps. When he lowers the mast you can see the wire gets slack between the sections, so the weight of the cable is NOT on the connector. It isn't an issue.
@@JDubbsadventure *haha!* In all seriousness, a little loop.....not that big a deal. You did a fine job there, IMO.
It works and a fence pole handy.
That’s true. That doesn’t telescope. But yea
How's it holding up?
Like a champ. I raised it all the way now and It’s made it through a few 35mph storms and one 50mph. I added guy wires to it but I don’t thinks it’s needed
@@JDubbsadventure I remember some years back, I had somewhat the same setup as you. But I also ran an Alpha Delta DX Sloper off the same mast along with a 1 3/4 mile long wire antenna. *lol*
Mine measured 67 ft. tall - but I could max it out to 72 if I wanted and *yes* I did guy my setup down and had a SPIDER WEB maze of ground wires spaced out all over the yard. I never once had a problem. I'll take a look at what your channel is about, if it's about radios etc. - then you have a new subscriber.
Gregg from Cincinnati btw!
This is the best thing you can do for the price! I use old fiberglass masts for portable work with a heavy duty speaker tripod ( like what a rock band uses for holding their PA speaker cabinets up off the floor) what really makes these tower/masts better is making aluminum brackets to mount a good pulley for pulling up the center of an inverted V antenna or inverted L type. But you can mount and stand off VHF/UHF antennas mid mast as well. Have fun with it! Hi to Axle ! He says "c'mon and play dad!🙂
Great info. Thanks. Want to do something similar for CB base station.
Would work great
Harbor Freight also has them
harbor freight is only 20'
This is awesome. I’m going to do something similar for GMRS using a comet antenna and this is perfect. I’m wondering did you put in a lightening arrest anywhere on this? That’s the part I’m missing in my head. Thanks for sharing your setup.
Should work awesome. I have an inline spark arrestor as well as a few lines that go to grounds rods. If you get a direct hit nothing will save your equipment that’s in the normal persons price range. Iv seen 2 inch copper line burn in two from a single hit.
73 to Axle.
This is brilliant brother and will save me from having to climb my tv antenna tower to install a ham radio antenna lol. Thanks 🙏
Personally, I would use the TV antenna tower but to each his own, hope it helps
Too close to your house. Put it further away.Mother nature gives no shits when it comes to lightning 😮
You missed the part where I said it was a temporary setup, but good advice
Are you trying to reach a repeater? Or is your house the repeater site? Do you prefer to use a HT or base station radio ?
I can't decide this guy's accent... It's southern but western brittish also.

You could still put an American Flag on it

Pined comment
I got a real big spinnacker pole from a sailboat i found somewhere. Works well with a diy antenna
Not everyone will know what a spinnaker is but I do. That would work good
Smart honestly. Being able to take it down when you’re finished definitely will make it harder for them to triangulate you’re position.
Yea wouldn’t want the Russian government to find out our communication link. La Resistance
I was thinking it would make it harder to be hit by lightning.
Remember your odds of being stuck by lightning is 1 in 15300… grounding helps with this by removing static
@@JDubbsadventure
I’m more worried about not-my gubmint of insane marxist direction with “Bidet & Harrass”.
I had one on my roof, after a few times of going up and down it locked up or stopped working. I got another one and kept it ground level and after some uses it also started to fail. It's like they are made for one time use.
They stick sometimes I put a dab of penetrating oil at the connection points and that fixed it
@@JDubbsadventure Exactly 👍🏻
I could use an old telescopic pool cleaning pole. Cheap!
You could. You could use anything really just think outside the box
My last installation, I used a long length of fence pipe. It is galvanised and metal. Thus, it made a good connection to Earth. It is, unfortunately, heavy. But, I only had to install it once. On top I installed the customer's Hustler 6BTV antenna with one segment missing was installed. Regardless that it had a missing segment, it did just fine. I did not know enough about it to know what was missing. I just did what I was told.
That would work
What antenna are you using? I’m in east TN, roan mountain right next to state park and it’s extremely mountainous, I’m looking at a repeater and place to put it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
It’s a midland 6db gain mobile with a ground plane kit. Get as high as you can even climbing a tall tree works good
Link not working
Yea yt changed that you will have to watch a full length video to get the link
Nice 😮
@@hammerc thanks
Price is gone up now $89.99. I was interested at $62.
Can’t hold that one against me Amazon prices change based on demand
I have seen demand base pricing also on Alibaba and other Chinese merchandise sites. When someone mentions them on UA-cam in a video all of a sudden the price goes through the roof.
Think harbor freight has something similar
@@JDubbsadventure Bidenflation
all funnand games until lightning fries the cables
Fun and games* I’d agreed but it’s grounded (not that that’s really gonna help with a direct hit) but the mountains and the towers on top of them let’s hope are better targets.
No linjs on short video
Check the 3 dots at the top right click description, first link. I promise it’s there I just checked
After reading most of the comments that amount to a nothing burger, I personally was wondering if you ever made any contacts with your setup? Fine business OM, 73!
Yes quite often depending on how it’s set up at the time, yesterday I made one from Virginia to Florida. Strange question to ask.
What antenna do you have mounted to it ?
Is is sturdy enough to mount a typical copper tubing DIY 2 meter J-Pole antenna on ? That’s what I’m thinking about doing
All I need to be is about 30 feet up to the tip of the antenna to hit local repeaters
It should be able to
where did you buy the pole?
Amazon at the link below
I made the same thing with a 20’ zipwall pole and some duct tape
@@Thearrowslayer that’s awesome 🤙🏻 you can also buy one
Been using one of these poles for a few years now. I hoseclamped a 10' stick of galvanized conduit to the top section for extra height. It's great for verticals and long wires.
That’s true
I have looked at the Amazon site. I cannot find the pole information. If it is there I cannot find it.
It’s in the section gmrs accessories
Nice! Can't find this flag pole on your seller's page.
It’s in the gmrs and amateur section
What brand is this pole? Best antenna pole but don’t say what the pole is.
That is what the link in the description is for

How is the twist lock design vs. the Chameleon mast? It is a true locking design or is it a friction type?
It’s a friction fit, that said if it’s been up for a few days you need a rubber strap the loosen it
Are you supposed to leave a loop of coax? Just got a big ol roll of lmr400 never ran a base setup before.
Depends on who you ask, I don’t see a difference either way
I just got a comet ca-712efc would this not work for that? I’m new to all of this and would like if you know the easiest way to mount it.
Yes I think it would be fine you might have to add guy wire for the extra weight
Did anyone ever find the link for the pole? Can you share it right here to my comment?

I had one on there for a few months. I’d use guy wires for sure
What about lightning
What about it, more information is required
No link in your store to mast. ???
I just checked it it’s there and working
Awesome idea. I just ordered one on Amazon after watching this. I live in a rent house so I wanted to have a temporary mast set up for an antenna so when I decide to move it won’t be too difficult to take apart. I can’t wait to get my stuff set up. Maybe we can have a conversation when the skip is good!
Glad to help. I hope you got the link working most people have problems with it. It’s worked awesome with high winds not bothering it at all. I did put guy wires and use them when it’s fully extended. Word of advice rise each section all the way and put a sharpie mark si you will know that it’s fully up

Great idea!!
