So glad you guys were able to make a stop in Oklahoma. But I am disappointed you didn't elaborate on your stop at The Pioneer Woman. It's such a neat town with excellent food and shopping.
Whoever came up with having Gary narrate these videos was genius, and his voice is perfect. Also, why do I continue to laugh every time he falls over? It cracks me up every time.
I think it's great that Gary is so involved! He does fall down a lot. Might be vertigo or something. Marc and Trish might want to have him see a doctor about that
Loving this season of Nostalgia !! mid to late 60s Muscle Car scene for me :).....Love my KYD Trucker hats...Sweeet !!! Hey Caleb, quick safety tip at 22:15, anytime the Bird is in flight ...forward motion, and your laying on the couch, keep your feet forward and not your head. In a hard or panic stop, your legs are much stronger than your neck !! ; )
First car in 89 was a 1968 Camaro. Family pulled an RV back from Cali and drove route 66 this summer. Thanks for the videos. Helping take the mind off the tornado that hit my county in Ky.
If you haven't passed it already you should check out the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery. He is a retired Air Force guy who turned the Junkyard into a Brewery and he is a Harvest Hosts Location. It was a pretty cool stop for us.
Our son is a truck driver and he sends us pictures of the billboard sign of Uranus fudge when he passes through. He thinks it is hilarious. Mary 💕 Fred
Backing up tip from a school bus driver. When ever you are backing up from left or right side look in mirrors at the rear tire and the edge of the grass, gravel, curb etc. and follow them in with your steering. In this case I would have started my hard right steering much sooner so as to keep the right rear tires closer to the grass then moved over to the left as needed to hit the parking spot. Backing in from the blind side is a real trick. Another observation is that there seams to be a lot more roadside attractions now than way back in 1967 when I traveled across 66. Did you stop at or see the sign to the Will Rogers museum off of 66 in Oklahoma? It was there in 1967, but may not be now.
We laughed so hard at this episode because we pass Uranus frequently and see the huge billboard sign that says “The best fudge comes from Uranus”. Well we love your videos and hope to one day meet you on the road.
I owned a 40' diesel pusher until my divorce.....never again will I own something that large!! A waste of money and a pain to maneuver in. And if you need repairs, especially on the road.....heaven help you. I once paid $900 for one rear tire, it was a Sunday and we were very lucky to find a tire shop open in Stockton, CA with a tire that fit the wheels....owning a coach requires deep pockets.
We really enjoy your channel. We love RVing and have been camping 45hrs. We started in tents. Now we have a motor home. We just sold our home of 20yrs. We are living in our RV while we build a smaller home. I couldn't keep our home up after 2.5 yrs of chemo for cancer. So we sold it. I like the 50s and early 60s cars.
I love that you guys went to Pawhuska!!! My people are from there and Bartlesville! We are Osage. I met Pioneer Woman when she came up here to the DC area on a book tour back when she only had her blog. How wild was Tallgrass Prairie? Like being out to a sea of grass! Just so vast!
At 2:50 minutes I have to agree with your statement about sticking to Route 66. Having lived in Oklahoma for around 50 years there are some sections that have nothing of interest. Between Tulsa and Oklahoma City there are several stops and then West of OKC to just pass El Reno to the Pony Bridge. Beyond that the Mother Road gets rather narrow. The Gathering Place in Tulsa is a fantastic park, other than not being able to take your dog. I hope you enjoyed your time in Oklahoma!
Back to the 80s... I'm stuck in the 50s and 60s. Most 'eras' are in 20 year cycles and I was born in 1952. One of my students sent me here because I will be doing Route 66 with my 1954 Jewel Travel Trailer which I'm in the middle of restoring now. I'll be going back to the beginning of your Rt 66 Trip and starting there. Love your bus.
Dear Mr. Gary, after your travels along Route 66, are you available for speaking engagements? I would love to hear your thoughts on traveling with humans and a dog while being unable to communicate to those who provide you with the experience. Or maybe you could talk about where you have been and how Route 66 impacted your existence.
Grew up on a ranch in Oklahoma w/buffalo on 10,000 acres near Pawhuska, OK, not as big as Ree & Ladd Drummond’s ranch. My grandma worked for the Indian Bureau of Affairs in Pawhuska. We live in Phoenix, AZ now and miss Oklahoma. Thanks for the videos and ur great love of this country. May God Bless your Family!!!
Two things- 1. Thank you for including Kansas in the video (even though 66 isn't very deep in). We seem to get forgotten most of the time. 2. We went to the Blue Whale a few years ago, probably about 7 or 8 years, and it didn't look as good. Glad to see that they have decided it is worth the upkeep. Also, there was hardly any water back then. It must have been a drought year.
These are the videos I love. The ones that are purely RV/travel videos. This is where you are your best and the most fun. Totally enjoyed the juvenile Uranus jokes as I am a guy and we never truly grow up, term mature male is a bit of an oxymoron. 😂 Born in 62 so gravitate to 50's & 60's. Anything Mustang & anything with a fin.
Can't believe there's a park that doesn't let you take your dog for a walk. Too bad! So glad you're already thru that area of what devastation happened recently. Those are things that when taking a long trip are scary.
The square bodies are one of my favs, but also the REO trucks or most any fast car, fast off the line or fast on corners could be a Coupe deVille or Dart. Mark if we ever meet remind me to explain the differences between cows, bulls and steers. Glad you guys had fun, looked like Trish had a great day out shopping and getting supplies.
Born in 54 husband born in 46 he had 69 corvette and a 55 shoe box .I had two 67 mustangs one coup and convertible now we have 49 studebaker pickup hot rod with a 502 fun truck we built together lost Joe early 2020 the truck not moved much since all the restrictions in Ontario Canada hope next year will sell after have his celebration of life next May but we had planned to do route 66 when we retired. Sadly not now so you are helping me live our dream watching you and your family. Thank you 😍😀
Watching the Bird pull into the pull through camping spot, I could only nod in glee. You guys are soooo blessed to have such a cool ride! (Even better than the DeLorean! Lol) Keep on truckin', Leach family!
Brock Yates wrote an article in Road And Track. He talked about the only car he drove that frightened him was a big block Cobra Shelby. That tells one something‼️
Car Museum - Late 60's, Early 70's. Got my license in '74, just after the Muscle Car craze. Look forward to meeting you on the road in the future. We just purchased a '13 Thor Palazzo 36.1 and plan to go full time in July '23. Thanks for the great content every week!!
Springfield MO is where your Kuat rack came from and that car museum is across the street from their previous headquarters. Thanks for the great vistas.
Watching this Route 66 series is giving my wife and I a great list of stops for when we take our camping adventures from a week long trip to a great road trip. I’m the type of “car guy” who loves the styling of automobiles. Most of my favorite cars are from the 50’s and 60’s. That said, the style of an early 80’s bus is pretty irresistible!
I cut my teeth on your 3208 back in the 70’s. When I saw you adding a quart of oil, I remembered Cat saying not to add until down to the add mark. The engine will seek it’s level, I’ve seen them run two quarts low from the full mark and stay there til oil change. Enjoy your journey and hope to see you on the road. Greg&Pam
Awww, Pawhuska and Bartlesville, Oklahoma have a special place in my heart. On our way to visit Pawhuska and Pioneer Woman this last summer in July on a roadtrip with our 5th wheel from Washington State, we had a little mechanical issue while going through Bartlesville, OK. No problem, called a tow truck...but...the tow truck a short way down the road and up an incline dropped our truck and rig and it ended up sliding across a two lane hwy and jack knifed into a tree in front of a house. Yikes!!! We ended up staying a month in Oklahoma while our truck got a new cab. The RV only had a few bumps and bruises so we were able to tow it home to be fixed. We finally just got it back! (We are fulltime. The fifth wheel is our house) I'll never forget Oklahoma. Love the small towns and the Tall Grass Prairie and all the beautiful landscapes. Nice to see it again on your Route 66 road trip.
Thank you for showing Oklahoma! We love the vibe here in Tulsa area! My husband grew up swimming at the blue whale and we are so proud of the gathering place!
I was Shelby dealer and High Performance shop located in the west, we dealt with a lot of Germans because they love all things American including muscle cars and Rt 66. We had customers that would buy a 50s or 60s "muscle car" then spend 2+ months on Rt 66. Store the car, return the next year and do the same until they had driven, explored the entire Rte. We had a good relationship with Germans because that's my wife's native language plus we had a good friend who worked for one of the biggest tour companies in the EEC.
I need to get off of 44 for one trip and follow 66. That is the route we took from north Texas once we got to Oklahoma City till we got to the Jefferson Barracks bridge to bypass Saint Louis then head our way to Louisville, Ky. Wife loves the Pioneer Woman. Entertaining video again.
It just hit me, when Gary was talking to the Mayor, that they're all the same statue!!! Holy cow! Pardon all the comments today, I'm sadly quarantining with my daughter over the holiday weekend (Labor Day 2022) so I'm just getting a chance to catch up on your channel by binge watching through the quarantine. 😷👍 Thanks for making it a little more enjoyable!
*In our region, we have walking trails, where you connect with other trails throughout the midwest and jump on The Appalachian Mountain ( Maine - Georgia )* *There's activities from the age of 6 months - 100 years old ( indoors / outdoors )* .
The only place I missed( I think) was Pioneer Woman. And Trish is so right about going while you can becuse I didn't take the extra time to visit...bummer!
I love a well taken care of car from any era, but I would say the 80's we a really fun time of cars being made. Something about that 1981/82 DeLorean back to the future style gives me joy.
My two favorite cars are 1940 Ford Delixe coupe and also a 1953 Studebaker. Next time you are in Arkansas check out the auto museum on Pettit Jean Mountain they have some of the rarest cars in the US. There is also a state park there with camping.
I was born in ‘74 and I have a connection with “Pre-Smog” cars as a California native. But we live in Florida now and you can pretty much drive a 1952 dump truck and nobody cares. Freedom still exists, Carry on KYD can’t wait to see you on the road, I have a bottle of St. Augustine Bourbon waiting for you.
Great work with shooting this adventure. When you get down to our area, if you’re up for a visit to Lake Havasu City, AZ and seeing the London bridge it turned 50 here in LHC. Naturally it’s much older than that. Anyway we have plenty of room for the Bird to park on our level driveway for a few days if staying in town.
The Gathering Place is hands down the coolest, biggest, most awesomestest park we've ever taken our daughters to (glad we left Daisy home). We called it the Disney World of city parks. There was even a mirror maze.
We live in Springfield and glad you enjoyed the Car Museum. Muscle cars… 1960s We were told about the Gathering Place on our initial visit to Tulsa. It was very impressive and lovely. I was in a wheelchair and felt well accommodated. We had a great visit to Tulsa!
The area around pawhuska is BEAUTIFUL! Did you check out how much land the Drummand’s have? We thought the story and size of their ranch was just as cool as the mercantile.
I'm sad you didn't get to go into the Gathering Place!!!!!!! It is SOOOOO worth visiting! It is a place like you have never seen before!!!!!!!! I hope you get a chance to pass by again sometime. You will be blown away!!
My favorite car we bought was a 1978 Camaro. Loved seeing the Bison. Gary cracks me up. Not going to comment on the fudge, although I do hope they packed it for you.
Turns with any type of RV can be problems. My traveling buddy, a standard schnauzer, just shakes her head because I’m always saying “left turns are our friend and right turns are our enemy”
The Bird only goes 70 MPH! I would die!!! 😂. Y’all need to swing by Houston, TX. More specifically The Woodlands, TX. Another great episode. Safe travels and God bless.
I had a 67 Ford Bronco with the same colors as that one, with the half cab. The top comes off, the windshield folds down and it was a 6 cylinder 3 speed stick shift, 4 wheel drive. It was so much fun in good weather.
Had breakfast at the Mercantile on November 16th. The food & service is always great. Pawhuska is the setting for the tragedy that gave rise to the best selling book Killers of the Flower Moon. Soon to be a movie directed by Scorsese & featuring DiCaprio.
I'm glad you got to visit the blue whale. The Gathering Place is a very special park. The playground for the kids is amazing... Nothing better than late 60s hot rods
Loving your Route 66 journey. After learning of the Giant Muffler Men statues from you guys, I decided to look up a freaky looking giant man statue in my town, he's called Big John in Cape Coral, FL. Learned of his history and wouldn't you know he's originally from Illinois in the 60's, must be related to all the other Giant Men.
I’ve got an 86 and a 67 Mustang alongside a 72 F250 Highboy but I’ve got a strong hankering for a 78/79 Bronco right now. I’d love to add one to the stable. So I guess that’s my car era. And I think it’s kind of true that you gravitate towards the vehicles you have memories in. It would have been fun to see you tow an early Bronco behind The Bird for Route 66.
Poor Charlie he had to go so he went. He is so adorable. Liked the Blue Whale. Enjoy looking at older cars as the ones today almost all look the same. Great ride along. Thanks Hugs to Charlie and Love y'all
as a connoisseur of dad jokes myself...I tip my hat to you sir...Uranus was my favorite part of this video! Really very entertaining to watch... Uranus, that is. Someone stop me please
I'm with Victoria on the '55 Thunderbird! That car's older than me and looks way better, LOL! I'm loving the Route 66 trip and the trip-appropriate mucic, but missing your indie rock selections. Hoping you're able to be home in Flagstaff and getting to enjoy the whole family during the Christmas holiday. Have fun!!!
I think we mentioned in other comments that we did Route 66 this year ourselves and really enjoyed it. When we stopped in Tulsa we went to Buck Atom's Route 66 Curios and Buck is a new American Giant so a smaller version of him now accompanies us on our journey. Funny thing we also stopped at that fudge shop where you saw the mayor and had a blast with all the inappropriate dad jokes they are so good at spouting there. Perhaps one day our paths will cross and Gary and Buck can catch up.
I have that bell sitting in the shed collecting dust. I love your channel! I'm going to Tulsa next month and wanted to see parts of route 66. Everyone go smash that like button and show some support for the Leach family!!!
The dialogue between Gary and the Mayor was a giant success 👍 Uranus dad jokes were smooth as fudge! And you are absolutely rocketing🚀 the music! I give this Ep 5 stars ⭐️ Out of five!🤙😃
Marc and Trish might want to have him see a doctor about that
I LOL when he falls too!
Great video. This is a great season. Question for you three, Do you know where I store all my Dad Jokes? answer, In my DadaBase..
It's difficult for me to comprehend how you got the bird into Uranus, amazing!
One of your best episodes yet! The obligatory Uranus jokes… hilarious!
Loving this season of Nostalgia !! mid to late 60s Muscle Car scene for me :).....Love my KYD Trucker hats...Sweeet !!!
Hey Caleb, quick safety tip at 22:15, anytime the Bird is in flight ...forward motion, and your laying on the couch,
keep your feet forward and not your head. In a hard or panic stop, your legs are much stronger than your neck !! ; )
wow...hadn't thought of that but that makes sense. Excellent tip.
Fun to watch, fun and more fun. The silhouette of bison at sunset was award winning.
So let me say this: I’m not sure if you realize how much joy and hope your family brings to people everywhere. May God bless everything you do.
Thanks Sam.
" I Spent Too Much Time In Uranus" Epic!
First car in 89 was a 1968 Camaro. Family pulled an RV back from Cali and drove route 66 this summer. Thanks for the videos. Helping take the mind off the tornado that hit my county in Ky.
I saw my husband for a minute. We loved hosting you guys! Great video!
If you haven't passed it already you should check out the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery. He is a retired Air Force guy who turned the Junkyard into a Brewery and he is a Harvest Hosts Location. It was a pretty cool stop for us.
Car museums: 1960s. Loved this video, well, the whole series. Even the dad jokes😎
My home base is Tulsa, and we are so grateful for the oil money that funds the arts and our beautiful parks! NW OK is a hidden gem.
I guess passing Uranus is ok. It is just when Uranus starts passing you when there is a problem. 😀🤪😂😀🤪😂
Ahhhh! The "leash trick" at 20:54!!! We used to have a 110 lbs Golden and he would pull a lot. The leash trick worked every time!

My first date when I was seventeen was in a ‘57 corvette convertible. White with a red interior. This was in 1975. Best date ever ❤️❤️
Dear Mr. Gary, after your travels along Route 66, are you available for speaking engagements? I would love to hear your thoughts on traveling with humans and a dog while being unable to communicate to those who provide you with the experience. Keep the rubber on the road and God bless.
Hello KYD family! Loving these cool adventures! Safe travels

You guys, I'm laughing so hard only the dogs can hear me...those double-entendres, the subtle, but not so subtle comments...I'm dying here!!!!
Car museum: 50's , 60's and 70's are my favorites.
Born 93.. favorite vehicle is a 97 f350 7.3 power stroke.. don’t know why but as a kid that was a dream truck for me lol

Car museums: I love the ‘20s & ‘30 cars, my Dad restored those years & we saw a LOT of car museums while traveling.

Yes, I wish I never added it! You'll see an upcoming fuel leak and I didn't know if it was due to me adding the oil and not putting the lid on right.
60's and 70's cars for me. love the videos we look forward to them every sunday night
The 50s for sure. Love those big classics. Sock Hops. Car Hops. Drive Ins. Cruising. Nostalgia
Hysterical! The security guard telling Tricia dogs are not allowed in the park while Charley's urinating.
50s & 60s. First car that I drove was a 52 Plymouth. First car that I owned was a 64 Chevy Nova Station wagon.
Oh heart. You just went through my home area. Born in the pindot Baxter Springs and have family all through from Springfield to Tulsa. 😍
Loved the end reel!!! Can't wait to plan our own R66 trip!
Thank you for showing Oklahoma! We love the vibe here in Tulsa area! My husband grew up swimming at the blue whale and we are so proud of the gathering place!
50’s and 60’s cars are my fav. They did not hold back on the beautiful colors and were super spacious

😂 agree with the “Porsche” comment Tricia! As former Porsche owners we joke about that model too!
I didn't see everything in there, but the Shelby Cobra and the vintage Land Rover would be plenty for me. Keep on truckin'!
My favorite car we bought was a 1978 Camaro. Loved seeing the Bison. Gary cracks me up. Not going to comment on the fudge, although I do hope they packed it for you.
My favorite era was the 60's. Specifically I had a 1967 Chevelle Super Sport. Red with black vinyl top.
Yes! We are staying in Tulsa and daytripping it up to pawhuska for the pioneer woman as well!
Late'60's Chevy Malibu or Pontiac GTO! Love you guys.
Gary cracks me up. It’s a good thing he is wearing a helmet though lol.
The pond at the settle inn RV park has pretty good fishing ! The mercantile was packed when we went there.
Had breakfast at the Mercantile on November 16th. The food & service is always great. Pawhuska is the setting for the tragedy that gave rise to the best selling book Killers of the Flower Moon. Soon to be a movie directed by Scorsese & featuring DiCaprio.
Thank you for showing Oklahoma! It's a beautiful state that just gets overlooked because there aren't mountains and other fun things to do :)
I had to rewind to watch that sign a couple times to get it, hilarious!
I'm glad you got to visit the blue whale. The Gathering Place is a very special park. The playground for the kids is amazing... Nothing better than late 60s hot rods
Had a 1972 Buick GS, love the 70’s - early 80’s cars. I totally get the dad jokes. My boys think I’m a dork.
Being a native of Michigan I remember those Oldsmobile 442 ‘s rolling
off the line in Lansing .
Keep up the great work
1969 Mustang 429 Boss
Loving your Route 66 journey. After learning of the Giant Muffler Men statues from you guys, I decided to look up a freaky looking giant man statue in my town, he's called Big John in Cape Coral, FL. Learned of his history and wouldn't you know he's originally from Illinois in the 60's, must be related to all the other Giant Men.
The Shelby signed by the man himself would be my favorite!!
I’m still a 50s or older car guy. The oil crisis at the start of the 80s killed it for me automobile wise.
OMG, haven't started the video, but have been waiting on you going to the Uranus Fudge Factory! How did you like their billboards?
Thanks Hugs to Charlie and Love y'all
I love the giant. His comments and how he falls over sometimes. Lol!!! Brilliant! 🙂
as a connoisseur of dad jokes myself...I tip my hat to you sir...Uranus was my favorite part of this video! Really very entertaining to watch... Uranus, that is. Someone stop me please
We drove through Uranus today. It’s still pumping fudge out.
Loving this series, we are planning to make this trip in 2023. Looking forward to it.
The dialogue between Gary and the Mayor was a giant success 👍 Uranus dad jokes were smooth as fudge! And you are absolutely rocketing🚀 the music! I give this Ep 5 stars ⭐️ Out of five!🤙😃
