If I may, this is about as close as I can describe what having anxiety/depression combined with trauma surrounding neglect and abuse trauma. You disassociate so badly sometimes it’s almost like an out of body experience. Almost like you’re in an aquarium watching the world around you, and sometimes you can’t separate events going on in the present and the memories that just take hold and don’t let go. His four bars at the end is that moment where you’re fighting-as hard as you can, sometimes with EVERY bit of energy you can muster to come up for air and rejoin the present.
This is a song that I could listen on repeat, all day, everyday. To me, it's the definition of drifting and letting the soul float for a bit. It has an unique and "unknown sound" to it, almost like irregular beat patterns and the simplistic beat slaps hard. Though the whole song is a chain of quotable lines from start to finish, the line that is a gut punch for me is: "Look into the mirror and say, 'I love you'. Convince yourself that no one in the world would ever want to." I know that I've been there. That's why it cuts so deeply. Besides that, I love how NF utilized his voice in the mix, e.g. you can hear him scream during "Cause I'm committed to the lie that feeling safe is unrealistic". There's so much to love about this song. I'm glad you took the time to break down the final segment. I really enjoyed it.
One of my favorite songs by NF. Def. Top 3. Thank you so much for your channel, Tom. It’s a highlight of my day when I get to see you react and breakdown NF.
“Can’t Remain Afraid” literally changed my life direction!!! Moved to a different state (had lived there over 20yrs) to help out family. I wish the rest of my family listened to his music-it really would help them thru their difficult times.
Thank you for today. Happy tears as always with my music therapy .Thank you for the community there's always someone with kind words and willing to talk to me when I'm feeling alone in the discord. Bless
Yessss this is going to be good. I love this song and its energy. You are doing such a great job for people with trauma by reacting to such songs and show your emotions as a therapist and human being. Your videos have helped me feel less alone a few times already when I was feeling low.
A friend of mine who absolutely loves NF took me with him to one of his shows while he was on his Clouds Mixtape Tour and we listened to it the whole ride there and back, this was one of my favorite tracks, but your reaction to it matches my friends and that's so funny to me. It was such a great show too and also my first concert. The feeling I get from this song reminds me of being there in that moment, like I'm standing there again. It's also such a great song and very relatable. Loved the video!
I remember listening to this the night the mixtape released and honestly, at first…I didn’t care for it because of how different it sounded. But each listen after that, I liked it more and now it’s one of my favorites of any of NF’s songs. The man is an artist.
My wife is divorcing me after 11 years, your reaction videos have been a great distraction from the dark place I'm in. I love the reactions and the advice you give throughout them. Thanks and keep it up!
I look forward to all your NF reactions but I was anxiously awaiting this one more than others cuz this song is obviously unique with the production and his flow. It's like the production is traditional NF but it's also all over the place, or chaotic, and I definitely think that was intentional cuz of what the song was about. I can relate to the lyrics in this song as far as feeling like my faith is drifting when I go all day or sometimes longer without spending time with God. It makes your life feel like it's spiraling out of control when you don't put God at the center of it, and I think that's part of the reason why his flow is so spastic and intense at the end cuz he's crying out to, or pleading with God. That's what I love about NF's music is the passion he puts into every line of every song, some people criticize him for that cuz they think he's too intense but it's just his passion for what he's writing about. Like he said in Therapy Session, "this is real for me".
I remember when I first watched you, I thought your videos were a bit dull, but coming back to these newer videos, you seem so much more excited and invigorated. I can tell you’ve really fallen in love with this music and these videos and it puts a smile on my face.
NF uses the deep voice throughout this track as if he is listening to the father of lies... then at the end?..... it is like an excorsism is crying out for the epiphany to finally find that 'map to hope'... ;)
First this is one of my very favorite NF songs!! I can listen to it on repeat and not get tired of it! I also thought of the deeper voice as the demon speaking lies to him... I searched the comments just now to see if anyone would mention that voice and I'm glad you not only did but also think of it the same as me! Such a great reaction by the way!!
I love this song, Tom! When he did Clouds (mix tape) he was experimenting with different beats and flows for sure! He is so damn talented it's unreal. You could go to his "Moments" record and react to some of those songs. He was so new and learning. You can definitely see the growth from then to now. Huge difference. I love your channel! Much love! ✌️❣️
Good morning Tom, This is one of my favorite tracks for the sake of its artistic brilliance. NF uses piano, soft sounds, and then hard hits. He brings us up, back down, up again, fade out....and then BAM! A final push of the most internal spiritual dialogue battle yet. This is truly connoisseur music on this one. I believe NF is way ahead of his time and we're witnessing greatness.
So I was re-listening to NF Drifting … and realized when he says "unknown SOUNDS" he might mean sounds in the nautical term: In nautical terms, the word sound is used to describe the process of determining the depth of water OR In geography, a sound is a smaller body of water typically connected to larger sea or ocean… especially since he says "drifting… watching the world go round" - amazing!
Hi! Absolutely love your reactions. I think you should react to Convolk. He's not that popular but he has amazing music and his lyrics are interesting from a mental health standpoint as well. I'd suggest cinderella, albatross and lonewolf
my personal favourite "emotional" song in the mixtape, and like you said "it had a mixture of everything in it" that's why originally if was my favourite but i do realise now that's a joke is better
hey Tom love your videos man love how you have so much energy in them it's amazing love your NF vids l found NF by accident a few years ago best mistake ever glad you like them well jel you have seen him live l would love to see you do some heavy metal songs Tom that would be fantastic keep up the good Work Tom and Nick josh from the UK 🇬🇧
So as I've just discovered this channel, may I dare to ask for songs to react to? As I'm a Tool fan, I think some people will know what it'll be. So I just suggest 3(4) songs and give some information why they could be really interesting for a therapist. The first ones should be done together, or at least in a small series of video. They are: "Judith" from "A Perfect Circle". The singer of the band is Maynard James Keenan, who's also the singer of Tool. The next ones are "Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2)" from Tool. The thing about it is MJK witnessed his mother Judith Marie Keenan suffering an aneurysm in 1976, which left her paralyzed. The song "Judith" is from 2000, and MJK is questioning god and christianity in the name of his mother, who was a deeply believing christian herself who never lost faith even after being paralyzed. "Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days" (they're basically one song split up) are from 2006, 3 years after his mother died after 27 years (that' where the 10,000 days come from) of being paralyzed. And they hit quite a bit different than "Judith". Oh, and by the way: They're all very, very, very good songs. Another suggestion is "Pushit" from Tool. Either the album version, or the even better Salival live version (can be found under Pushit Salival). This song is basically about an abusive relationship. Oh... and just as a small bribe: The Tool army is huge. And when one thing attracts the Tool army nearly as much as new Tool stuff being released, it is seeing people react to hearing Tool for the first time... subscriptions incoming! 😁
@@D3R8NK I hope so. I think a therapist looking over these songs could be very interesting. I've seen a lot of different people reacting to Tool: Musicians, especially drummers, who freaked out. Composers who were blown away. Even a pastor who discussed the songs. But the Judith trilogy reviewed by a therapist? That'd be awesome.
You should check out STFU! by PRGRSS. A friend showed me this song today, this guy has a mad flow and very strong NF vibes... And he's not even American!

This is a wold thought. Would you really take your time and do a breakdown of the lyrics? This is just one of them songs. Many if us were caught drifting in the first part of the song till he came in at the end and went all in at it haha
Great video but the lyrics are slightly off. According to Genius, it is, in fact "feeling" not "healing" and a couple more other small things like this. I think whoever made that video wrote the lyrics how they heard them, not as they really are.
Nice reaction. But on livestream your son Said you would react to eminem and snoops song yesterday or today but I Cant find it. Its a cool song but not so serious when it comes to lyric, more a fun song i would say

By far one of my all time favorite NF songs on that album and in general it had so much meaning to me and he put it in to words I couldn’t
Great song. He can really relate to almost anyone of any genre.
The entire song BEFORE the last part is actually kinda older. However, Nate felt like the song wasn't finished so the last part was added much later.
