I feel like psychonauts 2 has the aura of the innocence of doing gross out humor from the perspective of pre widespread knowledge of the evils, like its doing late 90's and early 2000's gross your sister out cartoon energy, before the internet sleeper agents got in there in real force. I know it's largely a bit, but I feel like the line between making jokes and being genuinely uncomfortable blurs the longer you walk it, which is why there are so many people either apologizing for it, saying it's not as bad as you say it is, or saying that watching you talk about it fundamentally changed how they saw it. I feel like most people either just went "ewwwww, that's gross" or just didn't think about it, so now that they're seeing something that's not that they start going, "Oh god I need to think about how terrible this game is" and it just sorta spiraled from there. Luckily I found the ability to not have my opinions heavily swayed by people streaming on the internet by watching Joseph Anderson streams

I really like this game. It definitely gets a bit too chatty at times with the "Hey, do the thing now!" Reminders, but the general feel and look is so cool. I also find the weird curse that Raz is under that makes everyone instantly loathe him upon meeting *hilarious.* 🤣

One of the things I generally like about your streams is that you guys tend to articulate your points well when it comes to what you do or don’t like, which makes me reflect on my own opinions and why things work for me. Like the meanness of the dialogue becoming more apparent as the game softens its edges more in other areas, and while you and others think it’s a bit much, I see it as the device that defines an otherness status for Raz. Maybe it’s an awfully blunt way to go about the topic, but Raz having few people to turn to in this prestigious world of psychic society makes it sweeter when he relates more to the Psychic Six, who are almost all outcasts in their own right and have deep seeded issues that Raz needs to walk them through to prove they’re not alone. The game’s definitely not subtle in the allegories there, especially with that conversation between Raz and his sister, and it’s a piece of why I’m really drawn to the narrative of this game. The first game definitely feels funnier, but the plot and characters of this game really captivate me. My favorite parts have yet to come, even though everyone goes crazy for the Helmut level. I’ve been thinking about Psychonauts 2 ever since this stream ended, and god I wish I could rant about all the thoughts that’ve plagued me since then (I’m only writing this comment so maybe I could tuck it away a bit). That said, I know “Jello’s Funtime Fetish Hour” is sort of a reoccurring thing on these streams, but the Psitorium section was definitely over-exaggerated. Comedy, critique, observation, what have you, it’s an under-stimulated brain experiencing the turbulent joys and anxieties of sensation. You go into the eye at the start, you’re probably going in the mouth. Only sights and audio can be directly translated to a video game format (maybe touch with controller vibration or haptic feedback), so it’s going to rely more heavily on the iconography associated with each body part. It could be more abstract representations, but I do like the more iconography-based design from a band mascot perspective. Idk, I think this game’s got a lot more to offer, and I hope you’re willing to give it the time of day when it’s not playing 20 voice lines at once on top of you guys providing commentary.
They sounded genuinely broken and it seemed really unsettling. I enjoyed the whole hippe drug trip psychedelic overload vibe of the level and it being about sensory stimulation, but hearing them just keep fixating on it being weird while i was feeling unreasonably responsible for that was… it was really just not a good time and not at all the vibes that the gang typically has during streams.
Listening to y’all identify everything as a fetish is genuinely making me question if I’m Ace. This, and the Contrapoints video that makes the concept of being in a love sound exhausting
I am aro/ace, and was thinking the exact same thing. Played the game multiple times, and at most went "Ew." To tongues and vomit, I didn't think "Oh, licky licky my armpity!" It's weird, and once the ball got rolling for them, it was just nonstop.
Yeah no as a demi ace at most towards the ace spectrum (so I'm at least aware but not so ruined I wouldn't just ignore it) it's not all thinly veiled fetishist this group latches on to certain things and does tend to blow things up bigger then they are granted the inflating puppet thing may have been something weird
you could always buy psi cores in the first game, the combining aspect was maybe a bit more interactive? you'd connect to a machine to make markers from the cores and the cards you'd find. there was also the mental cobweb duster, which you use with the loom in crullers Base to make more psi cards
I love how literally no one in the existence of time has mentioned that in the drowned egg dish in Compton’s cookoff you can see a silhouette of helmet in the gelatin That is sad and hilarious at the same time
When I played (and 100%’d) Psychonauts 2 on release, I enjoyed my time with the game. I was definitely nonplussed by Compton’s level, but I didn’t think about the, uh, implications that were pointed out during the stream. I can’t defend the choices in Compton’s level made by the dev team, vomit is just gross, and I don’t think that the level did a great job at conveying social anxiety. As for the Sensorium, I enjoyed it on my first play through and didn’t notice until now how truly strange and uncomfy things are on closer inspection. At least the rest of the game gets weirder in a different, not fetishized way, if memory serves.
God I LOVE the psychedelic mind levels! The music stuff and the total vibe of it is so greeeat! Auuuugh it was my favorite part of the gaaame! Also love Jack Blacks performance here (I ge tVixens stance of course). The reads are very good. The character was so fun to hear in the levels
I think we're officially out of the "gross out humor" territory. Tbh, I didn't realize that it was both Compton's Cookoff and Psi King's sensorium that did that and not just the cookoff. I personally do like the types of levels given since it continues the trend of the weird unique headspaces. Compton's Cookoff would be a great concept but in a game that's not going for direct humor like the last one (bc... the valve writer is with Valve) and more heart, it's probably my least favorite level in this game. Meanwhile the Sensorium gets a pass from the gross out traits simply due to it being based off the senses. Taste and smell are going to be weird and offputting because tongues and noses are offputting but it's an inevitability when using the 5 senses. And we're getting to the better of Ford's mind soon. The mail room level is such a cool concept.

Plus with all of this going on, I don't think the twist after the Tomb of the Sarcophagus is gonna hit as well. With the whole mechanic with Bob's Bottles, I think the rest of this game is gonna though of as a werid fetish part Thank whichever person that Cassie's Collection and the mailroom level can't really be turned into anything

I don't think the sensorium level is as bad as they're making it. How else would you do a level about reconnecting the senses to a starved brain, aesthetically designed after psychedelic graphics and music. Unfortunately strike city and the easter egg colored the stream before it started

He's just not giving it a chance. He already has it in his mind he hates them so that's unfortunately that. I do wish there was more of the other interns too but they weren't THAT bad.
@@decoolfool4166 I have this theory that there were side quests that were never implemented for reasons( budget, time, etc). My only proof is Morris (the kid in the levitating lawn chair) needs records for his KLOB station and there are jukeboxes around the maps ,each playing one song
@decoolfool4166 Jello can be frustrating to watch sometimes. He loves to skip dialogue, and when he can't he'll complain. He'll decide whether he likes or dislikes something moments of when he sees it. He can be incredibly insightful when it comes to his critiques but by god he can be obnoxious about it Edit: In fairness to Jello I do agree the dialogue isn't as snappy as Psychonauts 1...but I'm not sure where he's getting all these fetish things from.
@michaelwalsh9616 Considering how long Psychonauts 2 as an idea has been kicking around in Tim Schafer's head I'd imagine there's alot of different things that were on and off the table at some point. I'd recommend checking out PsychOsyssey which is a full documentary series covering the game's development and all the trials that happened inside of Double Fine during the production

Regarding the Mario movie, I like Jack black, but I think he and Kevin Michael Richardson should have switched roles as Kamek and Bowser. Richardsons previous roles show he has a closer register to bowser.

They are just there for sidequests and don't contribute anything to the main plot beyond slowly growing to like Raz (well Adam and Sam already like Raz by now in game but Jello isn't gonna bother interacting with them anymore) and being less of a jerk if you spend time with them. Norma is the only one that kinda matters plot wise without spoiling anything.
Not really, the only time they're even tolerable is at the end boss. Otherwise you can pretty safely ignore them imo. Adam is kinda cool post-lucktopus but all his dialogues are optional and pretty unimportant. Source: played through this game three times to 100%. Also, getting 100% is probably not worth it unless you actually enjoy playing the game. Even less important to get the scavenger hunt items, which just give you the ability to change your outfit, but you can really only get it after you've gotten all the powers, so by the time you go look for everything you've almost definitely already completed the game, and there's NO new game +, so the extra costumes are absolutely worthless. I do NOT understand this choice. (I love this game. But I truly don't understand this decision.)

I don't think the sensorium level is as bad as they're making it. How else would you do a level about reconnecting the senses to a starved brain, aesthetically designed after psychedelic graphics and music.

They had mentioned the easter egg the previous stream, and i had watched and thought of it as basically “ok, its just weird random sh!t for the lols and slight edginess”, not in the “raz is a 10 year old why is he pregnant” way. I dont exactly have the best sense of understanding of things in certain contexts until someone says it out loud.

He's just not giving it a chance. He already has it in his mind he hates them so that's unfortunately that. I do wish there was more of the other interns too but they weren't THAT bad.
@@decoolfool4166 I have this theory that there were side quests that were never implemented for reasons( budget, time, etc). My only proof is Morris (the kid in the levitating lawn chair) needs records for his KLOB station and there are jukeboxes around the maps ,each playing one song
@decoolfool4166 Jello can be frustrating to watch sometimes. He loves to skip dialogue, and when he can't he'll complain. He'll decide whether he likes or dislikes something moments of when he sees it. He can be incredibly insightful when it comes to his critiques but by god he can be obnoxious about it
Edit: In fairness to Jello I do agree the dialogue isn't as snappy as Psychonauts 1...but I'm not sure where he's getting all these fetish things from.
@michaelwalsh9616 Considering how long Psychonauts 2 as an idea has been kicking around in Tim Schafer's head I'd imagine there's alot of different things that were on and off the table at some point. I'd recommend checking out PsychOsyssey which is a full documentary series covering the game's development and all the trials that happened inside of Double Fine during the production

Regarding the Mario movie, I like Jack black, but I think he and Kevin Michael Richardson should have switched roles as Kamek and Bowser. Richardsons previous roles show he has a closer register to bowser.

While I don't hate jack black I totally understand why anyone would like he's not a voice actor he doesn't do voices he just plays himself in everything, he's just one of those actors where it has "*STARRING JACK BLACK*" in bold on the poster like it just becomes "The Jack Black Movie" as soon as he's included, same for any videogames he's in and that can be fun but like in the mario movie he's not bowser he's just badguy jack black, its like donkey kong being included as seth rogen he immediately stops being donkey kong he's just seth rogen as an animated ape...
Please give actual voice actors jobs instead of casting celebrity personalities k thanks

They are just there for sidequests and don't contribute anything to the main plot beyond slowly growing to like Raz (well Adam and Sam already like Raz by now in game but Jello isn't gonna bother interacting with them anymore) and being less of a jerk if you spend time with them. Norma is the only one that kinda matters plot wise without spoiling anything.
Not really, the only time they're even tolerable is at the end boss. Otherwise you can pretty safely ignore them imo. Adam is kinda cool post-lucktopus but all his dialogues are optional and pretty unimportant. Source: played through this game three times to 100%.
Also, getting 100% is probably not worth it unless you actually enjoy playing the game. Even less important to get the scavenger hunt items, which just give you the ability to change your outfit, but you can really only get it after you've gotten all the powers, so by the time you go look for everything you've almost definitely already completed the game, and there's NO new game +, so the extra costumes are absolutely worthless. I do NOT understand this choice. (I love this game. But I truly don't understand this decision.)
