yeah this is generally what I've said, like either they'd want us to know they're here, at which point they'd come out and introduce themselves (which clearly hasn't happened), or they'd *not* want us to know, at which point they'd likely have the technology to watch us from a distance without us having any more awareness of them than a deer in the forest does of a trail-cam. This idea that they'd be watching us from the shadows without actually hiding completely, but also not just coming out and revealing themselves, doesn't make much sense to me, but then again, I could be wrong, I'm obviously not an expert on hypothetical sapient aliens.
