Was watching Lynyrd Skynyrd 1976 concert on UA-cam the other night with my wife & commented on how it’s been almost 50 years now from that particular concert we watched, and said I cannot think of maybe a couple of other bands like The Beatles or Stones or Zeppelin that had that much musical variety of great tunes . Also how much of that 50 year old music is still so great to listen to all these years later . Allen definitely had the chops to play with Gary , Ed King & later Steve Gaines . It’s really too bad Allen’s career and then life ended so tragically. If he was still playing today I wonder how many more great songs & riffs would have emerged. Thanks for showcasing these here with us all . Happy 2024 . 😎👍
I saw Skynyrd live at the Omni in Atlanta before the plane crash. I've been listening to them for decades. You have shown me licks and nuances that I never noticed before. Keep it up.
Man, I love seeing the respect you give to Allen Collins. It maybe takes a guitarist to realize how amazing he was on rhythm guitar. Imo he's right up there with Malcolm and Keef, yet I dare say he's maybe the single most underrated guitarist ever. Just my opinion. Anyway, you make that Firebird come to life just like Allen did. Rock on brother!
I was talking with Gene Odom last week, he signed a book for me. He told me the story when he was driving Allen to listen to the Tribute band rehearse after Allens accident. They were a couple of hundred feet away from the sound proofed building in his van with the AC on. Allen could hear Gary hitting the wrong notes lol. He wheeled his chair in and told Gary he was playing it wrong lol. Sure miss Allen Collins. The sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Keep rockin the songs. Gene thanked me for keeping his ole fishing buddy's music alive. And that Ronnie would be happy to hear us listening to his music. Happy New Year!!!
I love that you have all of the intricate nuances that are so hard to distinguish in the full mix. The kind of things that are so hard to hear until you actually hear it played correctly.
100%agreed. Tom is the best out there on Skynyrd. He is genuine, because it’s clear he really likes the music, and has spent a lot of time studying closely how the music was made. 😀
Allen was such a unique & talented player, far beyond just Freebird. Lightning struck 5 times in the same place & band in 1960's JAX. AMAZING !!!!! 🎶 GREAT video & playing Tom 🎸👍
I love guitar, and golf, and maybe 3 other people. Awesome playing. I have the same guitar. I bought mine in 96 because of Allen Collins. You have inspired me to clean it up and jam some needle in the spoon.
Great stuff Tom! There will never be another Allen Collins. Such an underrated guitarist. I love seeing the enthusiasm he had playing guitar when I watch concert videos and wish I could have seen him live. You do an amazing job of recreating that Skynyrd sound. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for enthusiastically keeping this music alive! Your passion for this great band is such a breath of fresh air especially in the midst of what’s considered popular “music” today. Have a very Happy New Year!
Hey Tom learned a lot of walks up and down fret board from Allen Gary and you for keeping it real so the details are the greatest cause if you miss something it does not sound the same so thankyou for your detail to the music by Allen and gary
I commented a few months ago, but I gotta do it again. Lol.. I always say that Gary is my favorite guitar player from Skynyrd, but this video makes me realize that when I pick up a guitar, I usually play a lot of Allen riffs. Lol 👍🏼
Got the Firebird out. Looks and sounds good as always. I finally got my Les Paul back from Gibson with nice new frets. So I’m finally going to learn all of this song. Happy New Year everybody. JC
Happy New Year...man I'm really digging that Gibson! Is that a firebird reverse? I'm wanting to get one similar, but with a bigsby setup on it..keep it up with the awesome content!
Thanks for inspiring and enthusiastic videos! Obviously these are more for inspiration than learning note to note, but would it be possible for you to point out some related (teaching) videos that are correct and accurate to your ear? It would help to know what the best ones are for Skynyrd songs. Thanks and Happy Rockin’ 2024!
Tom, Happy New Years to you. I was glad to see you started this channel back up. Hey I finally made the move to MBSC and picked up golf again, I need some lessons. Do you do in person lessons? If so best way to reach you?
When you think about it it's amazing that they created all this beautiful music in a shack down by a Creek mirror Green Cove Springs, Fl. 50 years FL.!! 😳🤟😎 Have you ever had any communication with Gary Rossington or Rick Medlocke ? Thank you for that Skynyrd compilation that took me back to my much younger days and you are damn good
Tom the tone knobs on your Katana, I hope you marked the positions with a sharpie or small strips of white tape. Everyone except for the volume so you can adjust volume at different gigs. But that tone, you have to weld those tone knobs in position so you never forget that perfect Skynyrd tone. LOL.
Some of the best riffs ever. Definitely up there with Zeppelin's best. Aerosmith is great too. They're almost like Skynyrd but with a northeast flavor imstead of a southern flavor.
Maybe you folks should dig a little deeper. Much of the material was created by Ed King. Ed played EVERY instrument in the studio at one time or another. Every band has at least one real musician. Ed was that person in the early days of Skynyrd.
Allen is my all time favorite guitarist.
Said it once and I’ll say it again , Allen Collins was the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!
I am so glad to find other Allen fans!!!

Happy New Year to all y’all Skynyrd Rockers!
You can really see Collins’ influences come to life when he plays, very Clapton-esque with some southern charm;)

Tom,that Fire Bird sounds 'awesome'.

Gene mentioned the same thing during my tour with him
@@scot7966 Gene is the man!

that Needle and the Spoon intro is my favorite, not just from Skynyrd but favorite all stop period
Mine too!
I love guitar, and golf, and maybe 3 other people.

Yes Allen Collins was a great guitar player.Youve done a good job here showing that.thank you
I’ve always leaned more towards Gary’s tone and style, but hearing and seeing videos like this reminds of how cool Allen’s licks and solos were. 👍🏼

Ted Nugent recommended removing some people from the Rolling Stone 100 list and putting Alan Collins on it. He was offended they omitted him.
Pretty much nailed it man! Thanks for the memories.
Nailing Allen’s Tone good stuff
Thank you so much for enthusiastically keeping this music alive! Your passion for this great band is such a breath of fresh air especially in the midst of what’s considered popular “music” today. Have a very Happy New Year!
Nailed it. Some of those riffs are so haunting..in a good way.
Hey Tom learned a lot of walks up and down fret board from Allen Gary and you for keeping it real so the details are the greatest cause if you miss something it does not sound the same so thankyou for your detail to the music by Allen and gary

Sh*t first my golf game, now my guitar playing, you go Tom!

Love that demo version of Freebird!
Tom, Happy New Years to you. I was glad to see you started this channel back up. Hey I finally made the move to MBSC and picked up golf again, I need some lessons. Do you do in person lessons? If so best way to reach you?

I like it. Can you do some Ed King stuff too ?
Nice tone. What kind of amp was used here? TIA.
I was humming rossington's part the entire video 😆
Dang ya even move like Allen did!!!
Some of the best riffs ever. Definitely up there with Zeppelin's best. Aerosmith is great too. They're almost like Skynyrd but with a northeast flavor imstead of a southern flavor.
