If there was one thing Sega did right back in the day, it was design weird looking critters. This, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Space Harrier... Sega was really on some shit back in the late 80s / early 90s.
I have a theory that this game is in the same universe as Golden Axe. Streets of Rage is pretty similar so it might be linked to it too. Golden Axe - Past Streets of Rage - Present Alien Storm - Future Makes sense when you think about it.
