Alec Steele Blacksmith 2020 - Розваги
I love how the cold blue gave the bronze an old tarnished look,
It really made it look so much more "authentic"
That guard really needs something. The chunky size and sharp edges look like an afterthought next to the detailed and fine work of the blade and handle. Like you put a dwarf guard onto an elvish dagger.
My thoughts exactly. The entire blade looks great except for the guard. Just feels like an afterthought or a placeholder for something that fits the style of the handle or the blade. Hell I think that even just adding some texture to it would make it 1000x better, but as it stands it just doesn't look right.
The handle feels out of proportion to me, and I don't like the exposed blade below the shoulders, I feel like the guard needs something above it.
All three of you are talking utter tosh
I liked the contrast honestly
Again, I agree, I think the guard should follow on the nautical/beast theme and be turned into some sort of tradition compass or somthing along those lines but otherwise very nice blade and looks good as is, just think it "might" be better with simrhing else there
Finished? Part 6? Is this even the Alec Steele channel?
There's 12 episodes missing on that guard.
The speed increase of Alec’s fine work is impressive! I’m all about more pieces
I was going to say the same thing! haha
Yeap, not that i'm complaining though! Could used more info about cold bluing, but maybe in future.
@@dieushade alec rebuilds the guard for the 5th time, episode 50
Brilliant work, but the guard seems unfinished or missing some "Steele" somehow.
I was kind of hoping you'd buff up the raised areas on the carving for greater contrast with the shadowed areas at the end
He gave up the project
I am pretty sure if he did that, it would point out how uneven and jagged that carving looks past the heads of the two monsters. I honestly thought there was going to be at least 2-3 more videos where he went back and smoothed out that handle.
However, I think Alec maybe realizing with Will gone and his crew back in Montana, all the boring stuff falls on him again (sanding, filing, finishing). That is why we have gotten a bunch of one-off design videos that are about the initial idea and not the follow through to a polished final project (i.e., sculptures out of nuts and steel origami).
It will do that naturally over time and it will look better than it would if he did that artificially
"Took me exactly 25 seconds to screw that up" Now if that ain't a mood
The precision...
The guard needs some kind of carving to match the handle. It looks out of place. Otherwise amazing work
Exactly what is was thinking!
@@arnodecabooter8083 Me too
Snap, compared with the handle and the blade, the guard looked so plain and a bit too chunky. Loved the rest of the work.
That’s what is was thinking!
I was thinking about that, but I feel like if he made the guard fancy, it would take away from the handle
Lots of folks are talking about how the guard is plain next to the handle, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But if you ask me, there's something about the elegance of the handle, but the simple nature of the guard and blade that just... Works. I love this piece, any further adornments would detract from it, and would happily wear it around medieval Europe.
Honestly I was thinking it needs a sheath.
@@dillonvandergriff4124 agreed a sheath is exactly what it needs. something.. fancy... like ebony with gold inlay XD
It really puts the focus on the work on the handle.
It's interesting to see how different this style is, now that Alec is back to working on his own... something about it just looks different from an Alec/Will collaboration (to me, anyway). Can't wait to see more of this again :)
Yes, a different style indeed. Alec showed piece that he did when he was starting out that looked cleaner that this dagger. I have no idea how he decided that this piece was anywhere near his usual standart.
Yes but if u remember one of Will and Alec first projects together was a stiletto dagger. I like to see Alec on his own also but think he misses Will
@@emmanuellebeau5231 Yeah, that's not what I meant: I don't think this is sub-standar*d*, it's just strikingly different from many of the highly-polished, straight-line "clean" blades they made together in Montana.
But someone has to complain, this is the internet after all...
I thing he is trying to go more to an artistic side
I'm just happy to see him making stuff again and not building out a workshop or repairing machinery. I've missed the actual blacksmithing.
I can already tell this vid going to be awesome
Just as every alec steele vid😁
Congrats Alec on another beautiful project, it looks amazing. As a gunsmithing student and amateur bladesmith, your videos are always a source of inspiration for my work. I'm glad you gave cold bluing a try, outside of firearms, bluing of any kind is an almost unnoticed art that most people have forgotten. Whether it's the rust bluing like from the turn of the 20th century or modern caustic bluing, salt bluing or in this case, instant cold bluing. Done well, bluing is among my favorite finishes on a classic piece. Keep doing what you do and always be safe around those caustic chemicals. My classmates and I refer to cold blue as cancer in a bottle.
Imagine how things like this, with all the small details, was made in the middle-ages. With out modern tools, like burs, belt sanders, and temperature perfect ovens... The Black smiths must have been absolute artists....
It looks amazing, very well done Mr. Steele, however I do think the guard could use some engraving itself to better blend with the handle.
That turned out fantastic! Where do you keep all your builds? I'd imagine your sword room is running out of wall space 😂 👍 👌
He sells or auctions many of them off on his website.
Aw that makes sense, smart man!
What a result! I've loved having you back in this smaller format 😍
Nice transition from step 5 to 6 and I'll be sure to view the composite build video when you publish! Also I think your project vision through it all was exemplary and a very solid finish, the result shows your desire to stay at the creative apex and keep us entertained at the same time. Plus now, it's everyone's dream to have a little Alec inside them!
I'd love to see a triangular cross-section dagger in the future. Would be a real challenge to forge and grind, but I know you're up to it.
You mean a tri-blade?
You know those are banned by the Geneva Convention right? Owning one is criminal and it will be destroyed.
Totally needs Ruby's in the eyes
I was thinking the exact same thing!
It is so unbelievably beautiful. Sea creatures were my first obsession as a child, so it strikes to the core!
Great job. Love the bronze finish. Makes it look antiqued.
Would love to see a collab with Shadiversity and do his realistic re-imagining of the master sword
My two favorite UA-cam’s compine!
YES, so much yes. Doesn't have to be the Master Sword, anything done together with Shad will be an awesome project.
Anything with Shad and Alex would be amazing
It would be cool to have a collaboration with Shad, Bobby Duke Arts, and Alec making a really cool medieval weapon.
That would be awesome!
Alec, you should try carving for a lightsaber hilt. Would be interesting to see what you could do, especially after the beskar forge.
Then he could send it off to the Hacksmith and get them to add a light-up blade to it!
It looks amazing and the amount of work put into it. While watching this series, I was also reminded that the craftsman of old didn't have grinders, belt sanders, and Dremels. Just imagine how much harder this would have been a few hundred years ago. Good work.
Absolutely stunning! The blade and knife as a whole looks fairly clean and simple, but that just emphasises the handle which is amazing! I always enjoy watching you learn new things and improve your skill set, well done!
Almost disappointed that its already the last episode... I thought there would be at least 10
I can imagine Alec going home like "look what I made honey!" and she's like "....but we don't need a stiletto dagger...."
"What we need is a new coffee table. I thought we talked about this."
Everyone needs a deadly piece of art in their lives though surely.
Well done as ever! I love the blackened look. It ties it into the Renaissance perfectly. I think the antiqued look on the bronze is excellent. It just pulls the whole identity together in my opinion. It's beautiful.
Brilliant work! 👏 Love how the effect the cold blue had on the handle!
Thanks for including the fact that you messed up the first guard. We all make mistakes!
This stiletto should have been Arya Stark's needle.
Alright, so I'll just start by saying that what Alec is doing is crazy impressive and I could never do that.
But seeing how much better the one in the book looks really gives you an appreciation of the craftsmanship that must have gone into making it.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's nice to see a non-damascus build. I started off watching for all the damascus, but this is really nice to see for a change. Awesome piece.
You should take a challenge and go back to the good all days no machines just hand tools!
I was going to say that but thought it was a bit hard but yeah it would be cool
Yea I have been follow alec for many years and I remember when he used a lot of hand tool and then move to machinery. But I think it would be fun to watch!
@@icomment123onu yeah same it would be cool to see if he has still retained his skilled
He did one a while back with a knife
"Let's take a look at our sponsor"
**exits out**
his attention to detail is soooooo amazing.
Looks great Alec. Imagine carving deep pockets, dipping the piece in a colored epoxy then polishing down to the lines. Would be cool to see.
Awww... Too bad the terminus of the handle wasn't made into a squid beak
I’m over here being a keyboard warrior criticizing it. Knowing damn well I couldn’t do any better. Good job 👍
I literally gasped when I saw the finished handle. Incredible work Alec!!
I really enjoy the multi-part builds! Glad they’re making their way back 😬 I want those extra long builds though!
In my opinion the carving on the scales is below your standards, they look messy,
Yes but it's really hard to carve with a dremel and especially through a microscope
I can't help but imagine some engraver using small chisels and a wood mallet tap tap tapping around those scales so neat and slick you'd swear it had to be done with power tools.
I was hesitant to say anything, but I completely agree. I thought he was going to clean that all up somehow and it'd be looking great by the end, but apparently this is already the end and it's still sloppy. I feel like the rotary tool really isn't very good for engraving (though the heads did come out looking pretty good.) Maybe he'd be better off learning to engrave it the old school way, but that would require a ton of time and which he probably doesn't want to put in. In the end I feel like he kinda just gave up and called it good enough.
@@elijahbrunson2272 Yeah definitely not easy to do especially with the rotary tool. I certainly couldn't do better.
Alec needs to make a sword from demon slayer
Filmography on point! Awesome job Alec and Team!
This is truly artwork that you've created! Beautiful work Alec!!!
Wow! That turned out way better than I expected. I love it!
Gorgeous knife, the carving on the handle is beautiful. I love the finish
WOW! That is one hell of a cool dagger. Awsome build Alex
Absolutely incredible! The best part was watching an absolute genius of a blacksmith struggle and overcome to create such beauty.
I would love to see you make a scabbard for one of your projects too, it would be another interesting addition
The speed increase of your fine work is impressive!!! And it’s beautiful
When I had to use cold blue for steel parts, I would clean them and put them in a plastic bag, then dump the blue into the bag to coat it. When the part was fully coated I would wipe it down with oil to stop the chemical process and seal it. This Made for a very nice finish. For very long parts I would wrap them in paper towel then spray the blue onto the towel for the same effect. Hope that tip can help anyone working with cold blue.
Incredible. The amount of work involved is crazy.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! definitely one of my favourite things made on this channel!
Dude this whole series was so fun to watch! Please continue making more series like this! Love it!
You make some beautiful work Alec! Thanks for sharing with us!
Love the way you finished off that back end Alec
Boy I just love the ending of these long projects.
I will die happy when Alec makes a persian dagger or saber, the handles and blade carvings are amazing
Beautiful piece! And easy to disassemble for cleaning to get the blood out from the tiny gaps between the blade & the guard & handle, too!
Fantastic Work Alec! That looks truly amazing!
These is my favorite one that u have done so far. It is a beautiful piece. That you for the great work that you do.
It's so beautiful. Alec, you've done a wonderful job on the stiletto. Editor/camera man, awesome shots, editing, and music. You guys do such an awesome job.
That turned out fantastic! Amazing craftsmanship all around!
And I love that the end of the hilt looks like a crown. Perfect for this kind of weapon.
Alec this is absolutely stunning if I could afford it I would for sure have my hands on this piece great job you have inspired me to pursue knife making thank you keep being great
Pure craftsmanship the detail is next level
For sure the coolest build I have seen you do, absolutely beautiful.
This dude dedication to finished this piece is insane,,,Making those tiny detail on a hard surface itself is insanely difficult ,what a champ !!!
I'm stunned at how well that turned out. I would have tested it out in wood or resin first thinking it would take me a bunch of experimenting. I'm amazed you got it to work with only 2 attempts.
Alec the videography in this is tight and the stiletto looks incredible but I have to say the most impressive part of this video is your hair - simply superb!
the blade reminds me of the black sand beaches in my home country which is iceland. great work on the Stiletto!
Now imagine how it was done without powertools and microscopes. A bit of historical context would make builds like this so much deeper. Great build, look forward to the next one :)
Nicely done. I like that handle. The whole dagger looks good.
I really liked that look on the blade. It reminds me of a old, well cared for handgun. Just getting that holster worn look on the edges. Great job.
That stiletto is phenomenal, Alec! Good job!
Wow!! That turned out quite different to what i was thinking, looks amazing. Well done Alec!
6:04 always nice to see Mrs. Steele make an appearance.
I love this build. So different from most other builds lately.
the editing on these vids is phenomenal
What a gorgeous blade! Loved the trial and error included. Well worth the end result. Amazing!
It’s Awesome that you are back in the uk doing what you do best ( pushing the boundaries ) 👊
That is absolutely gorgeous! Good job!
Alec, thats a lovely stiletto, and the background music was just perfect!
VERY appropriate, LOVE IT!
What a piece of art! Congrats!
Absolutely stunning! You continue to impress. I'll be watching for the Jimmy Diresta style video soon. This was a fantastic series!
Looks awesome love how the handle turned out
While I watched your build videos as they came out one by one I was so nervous for you. I thought it wasn't going to turn out that great. I mean you never produce complete garbage but I didn't think it was going to be up to par with your other work but as the final video came out and you completed the final product you definitely hit it out of the park with that one. It turned out beautiful, a wonderful one of a kind piece of art. Its nice to see how flexible you are with your work. Keep it up, your well on your way to becoming ONE HELL of a blacksmith/metal worker.
OMG Alec! You not only did it but you did a phenomenal job! So happy for you!
So great to have you back man, excellent work!
Great project! Your blade smithing is top notch! The guard and handle appear quite rough and out of balance in comparison but I think you set yourself a VERY challenging goal here.
It makes me very happy to see you returning to craftsmanship after focusing on your business. It’s a balance that I struggle with in terms of passions vs. financial stability as well. Thank you for always being an inspiration to challenge myself Alec!
Can't wait to see the more in depth build video. I was about the minutes into this video watching the first time lapse, and had that exact thought.
Looking forward to that next video. Process videos with a nice reveal are good, and I can't wait to see one with your flair.
Still can't believe how you managed to pullof that handle. At firts I really though you where getting to ambitious, but thats what makes you beter doesn't it? Pushing the limits. Keep it up Alec! Love these complicated challenges you take on.
Stunning. You've outdone yourself... again.
That thing is absolutely amazing!! Simply stunning!!!
This turned out beautiful dude! Great work!
Tutned out nicer than I thought it would. Great work
Beautiful build, Alec! I wonder what the Alec of Barker Street would say or do if he knew what Alec of today was capable of? I’ve been a sub since Barker Street, and I was amazed of Alec and his abilities then. In my opinion, you’re are an inspiration to all. Well done, sir. Well done.
Exquisite work Alec, very impressive.
Thanks for sharing.
I didn’t think he’d finish it this episode but I’m definitely not complaining. It looks awesome
One of the most beautiful pieces you’ve ever made Aelc
