These extremely quick ‘microtrends’ are repackaged old ideas with a new bow on top to convince people to buy , consume and waste as fast as possible. Sometimes I struggle with it but I also have to accept that makeup it’s a consumeristic interest 😅
Trends are cyclical. Now I’m in my 40’s. I’m seeing lots of stuff coming back from my teen years 😅. Soooo I just do me. Bc I’ll be trendy again in a few years hahahahah

Especially the fashion. When I walk through the Junior Dept at Target it looks like my teenage closet from the 90's.
I think a lot of these trends are based around making as many women as possible feel bad about ourselves so that we have to buy something to "fix" it. Round face? Wrong! Buy this product to make it look thinner. Thin face? Wrong! Buy this product to make it look more round. Etc. It's horrible.
And cultural biases that tell women that darker skin is a bad thing and that they have to wear makeup 4 shades lighter to look "bright"....noooo, more like "dead"
I started wearing makeup before the internet was even a thing. Magazines were usually the place a lot of people learned. Seventeen and YM magazine were my go to. Bronzer, primers, contouring, setting sprays weren’t even a thing.
Beauty content online was way better before brands caught on to the fact that youtube, ig, & now tiktok, are the next frontier for advertising. I think UA-cam beauty content is still quite alright, but on tiktok where viral products and trends are propagated... honestly, it's quite depressing. The reviews are shallow, the creators are (allegedly) dishonest, even the videos that aren't tagged as ads often come off as such which further brings their creators' integrity into question. Watching beauty content on tiktok/ig reels/yt shorts just feels like I'm marinating in a stream of nonstop ads.
I wish more people would talk about this. It's taking me a long time to learn what actually looks good on me instead of what trying to fit in what is trending. I think what's helped me the most is staying away from social media so I'm not constantly bombarded with trends.
Seems to me make up is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. Being a slave to some trend that doesn't work for me personally does not do that for me. What is the point of make up that does not make you feel good about yourself?
This feeling is reflective of the bigger social issue of too much self awareness. We know something isn't working, we can't figure it out and that makes people in the community uncomfortable. When we want to express this, we're told it's not that deep or to talk to someone else about it. It's against rules we set for ourselves because it leads to worse places. I am using allusions because of said rules. What else could I write, I don't have the right.
Excellent point Kelly! I've been a professional makeup artist for over 30 yrs, and I always tell my customers: you have to create looks that fit YOUR face/skin/colors and shape! Nothing wrong with saying that a trend doesn't flatter you and staying "classic" until the next trend comes along...why suffer through the humiliation of looking like a clown because nobody has anyone that will tell you the truth!! Working in the cosmetics retail environment, I see young girls and mature women TRYING SO HARD, and looking worse with the wrong makeup than embracing and enhancing their natural beauty; not going bare-faced but knowing what to enhance!! My biggest pet-peeve is light skinned women using a super dark shade of foundation and end up looking orange and fake! And then the opposite: women that are golden to dark, using makeup that's TOO light and end up ashy and dead-looking! Embrace your natural shade and enhance it! ❤
exactly!!! the sunburn look? incredible on kelly. i’ve tried it a couple times and it just doesn’t suit me at all! so i’m leaving that trend alone and will try the next cool blush placement when it shows up!
I remember when I first learned makeup and skincare tips and tricks from Teen Vogue and Seventeen magazines lol. A lot of trends aren’t for everyone- I remember doing the heavy concealer with baking and heavy eye looks with heavy contour and it really was doing too much. I’ve taken those things down now in moderation 🙏🏻 Even recently the bright pink blush and loose powder trend- it doesn’t suit everyone and now there’s a shift to peach blush and powder. I just do what I like and what looks good on me ☺️

The "trendy" concealer hack looked terrible on me even at 25. I always had micro wrinkles under my eyes. Also, it makes my face wider instead of lifting. The triangle attracts the eyes to the center of the face which I love more for me. The trend that I love is eyeliner art because it inspires me to try new eye looks.
I really struggle with concealer settling into my fine lines (I'm in my early 20s!). Unfortunately I have the most darkness next to the bridge of my nose, the tear troughs, directly underneath the eyes, and most prominently on the outer corner of the eye where people have crows feet. I do try to apply a minimal amount of concealer, but my darkness still is prominent. Maybe I need to purchase a very full coverage concealer and just use the tiniest amount of that
I've never really liked concealer under the eyes because I feel like it makes my eyes look smaller, probably because I don't wear eye makeup on most days (hooded oily lids). And I've been fortunate in that I didn't really need concealer under the eyes before, but I'm now 29, and I've noticed myself looking more tired without concealer particularly if I'm wearing other makeup on my face. So now I have to experiment with concealer application under the eyes, trying to balance out my eyes with simple eye makeup and dealing with creasing in fine lines under the eyes too. So that's been fun (but not really).
I can't tell you how happy I was when Sydney Sweeney's makeup was trending. Finally, tutorials for round downturned eyes that weren't just "ew how to fix your wonky eyes" lol Yas! I love making my eyes look rounder. I think it's cute.
I could do without my hood tho 😂. I'll take a work around tutorial for that.
I work at Ulta and this is exactly the message I try to impart to guests, especially if I'm doing a color match or anything. A lot of folks will say, "what am I supposed to apply this with?" or "what color do I need to pair this with?" and the answer is always just DO WHAT YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH! Makeup "rules" really don't exist. Just do what feels best for YOU. Also, I hate what tiktok has done to the beauty experience. All the products are just copies of another brand that copies another brand. There is just so little originality and creativity these days. Ugh. Rant over.
You are so right about makeup and clothing recommendations emphasizing the opposite of what we naturally have. It's a cultural message women get all the time - you're not okay the way you are. Who gets to decide the "correct" face and body shape? Like you said, we need to custom fit our makeup application to our own unique features.

Totally agree. I like trends because they may give me the confidence to try something new that I may not have otherwise but as I've gotten older I've learned that I can take what I like and adapt it into my core style and leave what I dont. There is no wrong thing to do.

I''ve learned to be skeptical of too much trendiness, and I try and ask myself "is it actually better/does it actually do anything, or is it just popular with the cool kids right now?" The good stuff, like the good techniques, tends to stand the test of time.
I wholeheartedly agree! Especially, as we age. Our facial bone structure remains the same but our muscles and skin decide to have a party and do whatever they want. Makeup becomes a whole new ballgame!

So I’m a newer viewer of yours, been around for about 3-4 months. I LOVE this philosophy!! I’m not super thin, and I hate how it’s implied that if you don’t have a chiseled jaw, you’re supposed to use makeup to fake it. There is no faking it! Or it’s implied that we should be making thin lips fuller, or textured skin smoother. It’s fine to want to do that, but no one is embracing average features as much as I’d like to see.

So much about following trends has to do with being younger. When we're young, we are more prone to stress about not fitting in. As we develop and grow psychologically, we often free ourselves of caring so much about what other people think. We can free ourselves to do what suits us best as individuals. As a woman who is 100% proud of my age (getting older is a privilege... I'm living longer than predicted), I've learned the more I release care about what others think of me, the more I become my BEST self. 🙂 Not following every single trend (that pays $$$ to people I'll never meet) is just one tiny freedom about living my best self. 🦋🧡🦋

Right on! I have tried so many eyeshadow application techniques and tutorials, but I have such little space to work with, everything looks ridiculous. For myself, I only like a pale shimmer on the mobile lid, a midtone matte crease shade, and a tiny bit of a darker matte at the outer corner. Plus, my eye shape has no room for a big wing lol. Finding out what works best for us reduces waste and encourages creativity.
People bash a bold eyeliner look with no eyeshadow. I love it. It is how my mom does her makeup and it is how I did mine for the most part until I found youtube. In the comments on another video someone said it is really popular in India.

I turned 43 yesterday, and learned how to do makeup from magazines. Beauty UA-cam has been such a fun godsend, especially as I'm aging. I love trying new trends, but I need that knowledge of skincare & makeup for maturing skin as a base.
I tried the concealer on the outer part of the eye three times before I said this is not made for me. But hearing about the brown liner versus the black I have more soft features as well and I will have to admit I enjoy seeing the brown on me more than the black
Even the names of these trends are getting more and more ridiculous ("clean girl"). Agreeing with you on everything you said. I also think that we should do our makeup 100% weird, look back at the pictures a few years later and cringe so hard that we can't take ourselves seriously EVER AGAIN, which is the best thing we can do for our self esteem !
I do enjoy trying the occasional trend and sometimes they become routine. Those are the ones that do suit my face and sometimes that's how you experiment. When I started seeing blush draping, I started playing with my blush placement and while I don't layer blushes, I've changed my placement for everyday use. Other trends I don't even bother with even once. For example, I live in the Midwest so I didn't need any help with that cold girl blush thing that was going around - going outside will take care of that in the winter... My style is probably never going to be quite on trend and that's fine by me. I'll keep my not fluffy slightly blocky brows, bare lower lash line and embrace my short stubby natural lashes. Some day I'll go a step further and just toss my remaining eyeliners because I never use them anyway, but I'm not quite there yet 😂
Agree 1,000%!! I am 57 years old my skin isn't the same as it used to be and a lot of these techniques make me look like I have spackle! I try things and then figure our what makes sense!
trends (particularly at this fast rate) are largely driven by a profit incentive. as long as companies are trying to make money, they need us to buy new products regularly. If the trends become to lean into our natural face then they wont be able to sell us another new product to try after that. trends incentivise trying new things and consuming more than we would usually buy. the faster the trends change the more frequently we purchase new products. im personally of the mind to ignore trends for the most part and stick to whag works, occassionally trying out new techniques with products I already own. Appreciate this video highlighting some of the issues with trends
Being that I “learned” how to do makeup during the 2016 era, I love bold colorful, dramatic makeup. What I’ve learned though since is better techniques to blend, and make it fit my face better. Angelica Nyquivst recently did a video doing 2016 makeup with techniques of today and that is pretty much exactly how I do makeup daily. I do what I like and what works for me.

Yep i love this topic. I really really wanted to achieve that siren/fox eye look when it was super trendy, and even though I'm pretty good at makeup application, I could NOT get it to look right or to stay on! didn't matter if i put the inner corner point closer to my eye, a little further from my eye, more horizontal, more vertical, none of it worked. and it's just because of the shape of my eye lids and the fact that my eyes water easily. that's it. But i can still make myself feel beautiful and my eyes look elongated just with how i use eyeshadow on the lower lash line. i'm sad i can't get the exact thing but it's important for the message to be out there that sometimes you need to prioritize your natural features and work with them rather than try so hard to "correct" them
Have you seen all the trends around “categorizing” your coloring and body type and style? Like the 12-16 color season analysis, the Kibby body types, etc? I find these ideas a lot more helpful-it becomes more about finding the colors and silhouettes that flatter you, than wearing what’s trending. I’ve been finding that kind of content super interesting!
Having my colours done was the best investment in my personal style. Gives me the confidence to pick colours that suit me rather than wasting money on the latest fashion, which might be rather unflattering. I still make the odd mistake, but nothing like as many as when I had no idea which colours suited me.

Kelly, I think you made so many excellent points in this video! I’ve always been a watcher of trends but rarely a follower. I’m all about trying something once or twice and if it doesn’t work for me, I go back to what I’ve always loved. I’m in my early 40’s now and still rocking shimmer (or even light glitter) on my eyelids and I still get compliments nearly every day. It’s what makes me feel the most beautiful and I feel no need to change it! I have the same concealer issue as you do. I tried the trend 2 or so times and noticed that my tiny lines looked more prominent. Now I focus my concealer to my inner corners only; if I wear concealer at all!
I think it would be great if you could further discuss this topic. Luckily, we’ve started talking about body positivity but how about “Face Positivity?” That sounds so wrong but I’m sure you can think of something much more appropriate! LOLOL

Love so much what you were saying towards the end about not changing ur features. I think there’s so much beauty in working with your unique features instead of everyone trying to look the same.
I had to go in person to learn how to do my brows. My brows are very wide and dark but the hair isn't dense. When I was doing things the way everyone else was saying I should online with regards to filling in my brows, it made it look like I hade taken a sharpy and drawn two thick lines across my face. Going in person I was able to have someone show me the right way to do it for my brow shape specifically. It was super helpful. Sometimes going in person is the only way to learn what you need.
Another great video Kelly! I was a teenager in the 80s so you can just imagine the makeup we were wearing 😂. I remember my favorite was teal eyeliner with bright blue mascara. Oh, and most “instruction” for me came from magazines. My mother didn’t wear makeup so o was on my own!
I totally agree about the viral concealer trend. Another trend that doesn't work for me is using prominent blush on the cheeks and nose. I struggle with rosacea, and the last thing I want to do after covering up my redness is to go and add it back in. Blush on my nose tends to make me look sunburnt too. I find that a small amount of a peachy blush placed high on my cheek bones looks the best on me, as long as I use concealer and foundation.

I think the beauty approach my mum learned from magazines was actually catering to the individual features, individual shape, individual colors etc, like how to shine/look your best WITH this or that shape or features. But somehow along the way people started to present the beauty suggestions as more and more correcting advice and rules. So by the time the next generation grew up it all felt restricting and they of course wanted to invent new, better approaches and suggestions. I think this is happening over and over again with many theories (like kibbe, color analysis etc) it starts out creative and empowering and somewhere along the way, when there are ”too many nannys for one baby”, the message gets changed, maybe too complicated or just the opposite of what was intended.
I do notice in South East Asia and East Asia, eyeshadow makeup trends ain't really a thing, 'cause our eyelids space are much smaller than an average white or black or hispanic person, so there isn't a point for much eyeshadow.
But lip color could be a huge trend. Back in 2010, everyone was wearing those barbie neon pink (MAC candy yum yum for references), lip liner is non existent back then, and people mostly just apply lipstick without doing alot of eye makeup. It ends up look bad on most vietnamese who have a medium warm skin tone. Same with subsequent trends with the coral lip and the pinkish brown nude lip (Wet n wild Give me mocha), it's not a one-size-fits-all thing.
Hope that one day you would try Korean sunscreen, it's a huge thing here.
I also have a very pointy cupid's bow. I am blessed with naturally full lips so I have never felt the need to over line. I watched an Emily Noel video a long time ago where she briefly mentioned that no one should shy away from a pointy cupid's bow, basically that there was no need to round off the points of it. I loved that little bit of advice.
Preach 🙌🙌🙌 So much unhappiness is associated with deciding your face, hair, body, etc., is somehow wrong. I think it’s a journey of self actualization and leveraging trends and classic techniques to feel your most comfortable in your own skin.

Exactly! As Robert Welsh here on UA-cam says: "makeup has no rules, but it does have theory" as in color correction, shadows and highlights etc. which can help you understand your face and what techniques/applications might work for you
I will say as someone with a different eye shape, trends and other things were always harder for me and it took me a while to understand certain makeup techniques weren’t for me. I always felt like I just couldn’t do makeup because it wasn’t “right”
It can be exhausting to try to keep up with trends. I’d rather figure out what goal I want to achieve with my makeup and work from there. When I was younger I thought I HAD to wear makeup, and wear it a certain way to be acceptable. That’s just not true. So glad you are talking about this important topic Kelly!
When it comes to the colours that suit you and the makeup, colour-analysis is the most important to find out what will look genuine and natural on you. You (like myself) are most definitely a Soft Autumn (the concept wardrobe has a great page both on general info as well as makeup!) and so black will not feel native on you. It’s pretty much only the winter types and dark autumns that can get away with wearing black close to/on the face. Colour is all about what is relative to you. 🥰🦋✨ Lots of love! 💖
This is exactly why i always focus on my features rather than the trends. Although trends are fun, they don't always suit me. %95 of the time your natural eyebrow shape will suit you the best. Never change your eyebrows for trends especially thinning it out.
Hey Kelly I just wanted throw in some agreement but also my take on this
I have never had makeup work for me until 2016.
I’m a female but with stronger masculine features.
The best thing that works for me is the closest to drag that I can get. It allows me to restructure my face and change how the light bounces off.
Once I found my restructure technique- I just don’t follow trends.
I have backed down from the full coverage foundation a little just due to the hot climate I live in - plus all the layers I wear on top of it.
I really appreciate you making this video as I can not do the no makeup make up trend or the spot concealer trend. I am so damn excited for 2016 style to roll back around

I have the same issue as you do with bold black liner & mascara…the liner especially always ends up looking so harsh on my face, with my softer features & lighter coloring. I always just assumed I must be doing something wrong, since EVERYONE seems to love this look😅 Really glad to be reminded that not all trends, no matter HOW popular, are gonna look good on every single person.

“ you’re gonna see the actual lip line poking through” I want to scream this from the roof tops! Not ALL lip shapes work well for drastic over-lining despite the trends &/or BS they like to throw at us. I have a really distinct lip border, any drastic over-lining just looks like I’m a child who doesn’t know how to “color within the lines”.
Honestly I rarely see “drastic” lip lining that looks realistic, natural or even GOOD. Might be ok in photos but IRL it’s clockable and draws SO much attention to the area.
Most viral trends are aimed at “fixing” or “changing” …why do we always have to have something wrong with us? It’s so negative and not helpful ….the industry loves to play on our insecurities, it’s really sad….
One thing I love about makeup trends is trying to figure out how to recreate it with stuff I have (like blush under the eyes instead of buying a pink powder) - it feels like much less commitment to me than buying a bunch of new clothes because it washes off
I needed this. I’ve been out of the makeup game for a year and was trying the new stuff, and I just looked a tween learning makeup, went back to my old ways.
I'm 55, and I can tell you I learned makeup first by just trying things (because I've been grabbing for it since I was 4), and by the time I was 12, I was learning from magazines. Social media video is just the replacement for magazines. But back then, we had teen magazines, and before most of us were out of our teens, we were reading Cosmo, Glamour, Allure, Marie Claire etc. and beauty books. I had them all. I looked forward to those issues with the same excitement I now look forward to new videos. Where Social Media has been amazing is that before this, I was alone in my obsession. I didn't understand how everyone wasn't waiting for those magazines or trying all this makeup when it came out. Social Media has made me feel less alone and it has allowed me to find my people.
This is great, Kelly. ♡ I also have thinner brows and am slowly learning to accept that. With clothing trends... I'm so frustrated. haha I have a bit larger breasts, shorter torso, but not much of a booty going on. So these high-waisted pants and cropped tops emphasize the opposite of what I want. 😅 I have to get my jeans from thrift stores, b/c it's very difficult to find midrise jeans.🤦 Anywho, I love that you brought this topic up. ♡ We are all beautiful in our own ways.

I agree with you, trends differ from time and generation. Not everyone, has the same skin type, texture, and shade. Also ages and styles vary period. Makeup is not a one size fits all like you said Kelly, it depends on the person, and the face shape.
Completely agree! Playing with looks is fun. We all have insecurities. But emphasizing and appreciating our “flaws” or unusual features is incredibly beautiful and should be more commonly celebrated.
Yes, this! I tried for ages to use the newer blush technique where you place it high on your cheekbones, but I've accepted that it just doesn't work on my features, and the older technique of putting blush on the apples of my cheeks looks much better. And to your point on how instructional videos try to get rid of our unique features: I'd love to find advice on contouring my aquiline nose where the point isn't to get rid of the nose bump.
I’ve been watching makeup tutorials since 2008 and I’ve seen so many trends. I’ve tried to follow them all. Now in my mid 30’s, I just want to emphasize my features like you said. I use so much less make up and it’s better for me. Also my skin has changed so I don’t need to cover up so much acne like I used to.

I didnt start doing makeup until 2017 (I was 20) and youtube was so helpful. But now, I just do what I want, regardless of trends. Its still fun to try out new things but I refuse to go buy new products just to try something new. Trends come and go, but developing a personal style and having fun when wanted means I use/love what I have and only pick up new products if they could actually work in my routine
I think we’re seeing a slight shift towards people learning to take what things work for them and not worrying about the other trends that don’t work for them but we’re not there yet.
I have very similar natural coloring to you and I definitely agree that softer brown liner works better for us. Now when I see old pictures of me with dark liner it’s so shocking. Same on the eyebrows. My eyebrows are fairly sparse and thin so the more dramatic eyebrows are so harsh and unflattering on me. I’ve started doing a shape that’s closer to my natural brows with a little more structure while keeping them soft as well and it looks so much better.
I’ve noticed in the past couple years that I’ve been more focused on what works for me rather than the trends I also feel less of a need to have a large collection. It’s really helped cut down on the amount of product waste I was having.
Another great video Kelly! I am a retired cosmetologist. There is no one size fits all for makeup application. Shading, brightening, liner (lip or eye), colors etc are very personal and dependent on a persons features, skin type, age and coloring. Trendy beauty may or may not work for someone. It's OK. I love winged eyeliner however my eyes tear from allergies. I can get away with it if I use a water proof liner, take an allergy eye drop and have access to a mirror all day to wipe away the black smears which accumulate from liner being very wet all day. For me, it just isn't worth the fussing. Do what works for you. If we all looked the same, life would be boring.

I also learned how to do my makeup from my mom when I was growing up and I still use some of the techniques she showed me while embracing some new ways to apply my makeup. I'm also sat an age (33 and turning 34 in Sept) where I don't have time to keep up with the trend of the day and as you said, they might not look good on me anyway due to my age.
Yes! I have a long narrow face. I searched for tutorials on just how to do makeup to flatter my face shape. It was all on how to contour or blush to round it out or to change it. I’ve learned to love my face shape.

I agree. I have hooded eyes and all the tutorials are telling me to fix them, but I have given up and embraced the hoods and life is much easier. I also have tried years worth of bronzers and none of them look good enough on my super pale, pink-toned skin. So I don't do bronzer and I won't "fix" my hoods.
I agree about putting makeup that emphasizes what we have instead of trying to change. I'm a big fan of barely wearing makeup now, when in HS i use to go for the dark black eyeliner. I noticed that every time I went heavy with makeup, i felt like i looked crazy. Now i just use the lightest bit of make-up and feel the prettiest. ❤
I am five feet tall so I totally feel you on the clothes shopping!! I always get so happy when I see petite sizes offered!
There are definitely pros and cons to online beauty tutorials. I’m 40 and think my make up has never looked better which is from learning techniques online for maturing skin and hooded eyes … but not as much fun as learning from my sisters and friends like I did when I was a teenager 🙈 I probably do jump on trends too much but I think I watch good you tubers so don’t fall into every potential pitfall, like your tip in this video on the concealer dots! Hadn’t noticed this before; think I’ll adapt to keeping it to darker inner part of my undereye from now on
I remember there was a UA-cam content "trend" back in 2018 where lots of beauty videos point out how you're makeup won't look exactly like the one on the video tutorial, because people's faces are different. The one putting on makeup has features favoring that trend.
I guess we're still falling for the visuals of these trends and tutorials, because they're fun to do, but probably results won't look good.
I love your attitude! That's the comment! Yes, we need to embrace who we are... what we look like...do what makes us feel good. If a trend works, great..if not.. that's fine too.
I heard liquid lipstick is coming back….I didn’t even know it was out. These trends are giving me such a headache. I will do my makeup and wear what I wanna wear according to me and not the fast pace once every six month trend fiends 😂
The first time I looked up a makeup tutorial was 3 years ago at 44. I followed that concealer trend and looked HORRIBLE 😂. Videos like this make me feel so much better. Thank you 💕

Every face is different, every bone structure is different. I can't see why one makeup technique should apply the same to each and every one of us. It doesn't. We should learn what techniques and which products work for us the best and if they don't follow this or that trend, so be it!

I love your points and perspective in this video. The only backlash I see is from brands trying to pump out and sell more products. They make billions off our insecurities. Hopefully someday there will be a cultural shift to embrace who we are rather than follow trends we see on media and celebrities by designers. This is what has led to overconsumption of products and these huge businesses want to keep that train moving. Fast fashion and beauty trends change so fast that I have given up trying to keep up. I see something new that I like and I add toned down version into my routine. I was overbuying and now have an obscene collection that I want to downsize. I still love makeup and beauty but I am trying to focus on contentment rather than consumption- you touched on this too. Thanks Kelly

I only recently really got the hang of dealing with my hooded downturned eyes. Because they're hooded I can't do winged liner. I have embraced 'puppy eyes' eyeliner and it works great for me. And makes my 40 year old self feel cuter!

I love this video Kelly. Every human being ever born is unique. Why spend time trying to be someone else. Make-up should be fun in whatever way you think is fun. Our outsides were created beautifully and wonderfully. Appreciate what you have in your younger years, and it will go really far when those years really begin to add up.
I've always kind of hated trends as that's usually what ends up aging the worst, exactly for the reasons you mention, trying to force yourself into a mold simply because something is trendy is silly. I'm not talking about things such as genuine advancements in techniques or formulas etc, of course. though for example, my mother started using vaseline under her eyes at 18 and did for decades until someone said it's bad for you. then all of a sudden someone "invents" slugging and now you are "allowed" to use vaseline again! let me tell you, my mother's skin is gorgeous. she's constantly mistaken for being in her 50s at 68. personally I've always loved lip gloss and I've seen several cycles of it being trendy and out, man did I struggle finding decent glosses during the butt dry liquid lipstick era!! I really hope the dialogue around beauty focuses more towards accepting and embracing our own features rather than blind devotion to microtrends.
