How to get bees to overwinter is difficult in cold climates this is my take on a ideal moisture box or quilt box to help colonies overwinter using wood shavings that includes a feeder shim for sugar blocks as well pollen patties for easy feeding during winter and spring.
I attribute my success overwintering in zone 5 due to this, a windbreak and proactive mite treatments!

It is great to see a video from you, I was wondering the other day how things were with you. This is a cool project and I like the idea of using trim board

Unless you are a commercial bee keeper, and truck your bees around to various farms, I recommend you learn more about them. Bees do not like langstroth hives, and they cannot thrive when they are in them. They tend to leave them, aka swarm to find better homes. Bees should never eat sugar or syrup. Bees are extremely sensitive to off gassing and should never be in anything but untreated wood. Thier hives should be well insulated so they keep cool in the heat and warm in the cold. They have natural instincts for overwintering as well as being happy. Learn about them, and you can make them happy. They are also not happy if they do not have room to make drones.
I have never lost a hive, never had a disease nor varroa mite issues. My bees are very happy and I make sure to keep them that way. I keep my bees in Layens hives and natural frameless top bar hives (both are horizontal). I know a lot of bee keepers, and once they see my hives, they dump thier langstroth hives as fast as they can.
Top bar hives are great for getting beautiful honeycomb that goes for premium prices. The Layens frames can go into centrifugal extractors (3 frames at a time). Both allow the bees to overwinter beautifully (zero issues). And both make bee keeping much easier on both the keeper and the bees.
Keeping Bees with a Smile, by Fedor Lazutin is a pretty good book. But keep in mind that he raised bees in a very cold climate and needed a much larger frame to overwinter his bees. Unless you are in the arctic, you will be fine with a Layens sized frame instead of the massive Lazutin frames. Lots of decent videos on Layens hives on UA-cam as well (if you don’t like books).
    Good luck…
