We brought this RLCS tactic into ranked... (it worked)

- I analyzed the pro Rocket League teams at the RLCS Winter Major and turned it into a strategy to use in ranked. The result was the best strategy we've used on the channel by far.

After analyzing the games from the RLCS Winter Major, I developed a gameplay strategy to test out in ranked 2v2 gameplay. I was expecting the strategy to at least be decent but I was blown away by how effective it was. It's definitely not a playstyle I normally have but we caught on to it very quickly and started using it to our advantage. We saw so much more success in this session with this new playstyle than we would have if we had just played normally. I will definitely continue to use a version of this style in my future Rocket League ranked games.

I can't believe Wayton just tricked me into enjoying a ranked 2s gameplay video
Lmao this
istg most of those you tubers are just like “so I’m gonna hit it here then oh we scored, then I’m gonna pass” like it’s so boring

The cuts on this video were great though
You ever saw arsenal gameplay?
The older Envy Team of Turbo, Mist, and Atomic also played this style while being extremely defensive and they also won a few regionals from it.

And pretty much what Flakes has been saying in his road to SSL without mechanics series. Wait until you get the ball, bait the 50/50, free 1v1 or 2v1.
@@TeKaMOTO Well why isn't Flakes pro anymore, then?
@@hhaste Uhh, why is that relevant to what I said?
The missed demo you didn’t get is exactly what happened with queso sunless explained it well it’s because your center was not within a certain degree to his
Imao, I too remembered sunless' "best save in the history of rocket league" video
Lol but that laugh at that point lol
But the problem is if it's not a demo it should atleast result in a bump but even that didn't happen against Vatira and he just went ahead without any issue
So then the conclusion becomes that if you just position your car in a certain way to someone else's then you'll never get bumped or demo'd but that just bullshit
basically he steered retals to the side
@@compszn Exactly while that may make sense in Rocket League dynamics to me that's horse crap don't mind my french

Great vid.
I also would like to point out that Flakes' playstyle which a lot of people make fun of is in great part based on this concept: Play cautious and passive and let opponents overcommit then counter fast and score or at least pressure without taking risks.
There is definitely something to be learned from non-conventional playstyles.
I was about to say the exact same thank you
I like his terminology better as well. He calls them "outplays", meaning you're focusing on getting your opponent to make a mistake rather than use your mechanics to get results. That is the primary take away from this video as well, they focused on getting their opponents to over commit practically the whole video.
whos making fun of flakes playstyle ?
@@nivshitrit248 I've seen quite a few people not really understand why he plays how he does even in the pro scene. For example, on one of his livestreams, Fairypeak was mocking Flakes' playstyle along with his' habit of using random cars. I think it mostly comes from a very different game sense and philosophy but it can be a bit annoying to see.
I do genuinely believe that the current meta of fast booming + aggressive challenges is not the endgame and even in recent times, we've seen a progressive shift towards smarter and more controlled playstyles.
This. My playstyle is almost exacly the same to flakes too but less mecanical and it still work great.
It kinda makes sense once you notice it - you often hear how much better defenses have gotten (faster recoveries, moving the ball safely, etc), and that kind of necessitates that you score when they're not set up yet. An impressive example, nontheless!
Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships.

This is good but every style has its downsides. Giving them the ball every time you don’t score let’s more mechanical play styles score on you.
Maybe you have a point because 1:31 demonstrates that but I guess everybody has a playstyle that works for them
It definitely gives the opposing team more chances to pull of a mechanical play as wel..
Well you don't necessarily need to go into your half and leave the space open. You can get a good counter from pressuring their offence. Fake challenges 50s and take ball back to corner. Anything you can do to upset their offence is what's really needed in this tactic.
besides the strategy just working really well, it's also refreshing and nice to see some wayton gameplay ngl
All i gotta say Wayton is good music, strat, vibes n skoll. good work as usual!

Another banger vid. This is the only thing that lights up my boring mondays
Bro I enjoyed this sm
Nice video, I like the strategy type ones. I think the reason why this works is because we generally tend to overcommit on offense. Putting your teammate into a 2v1 is already overcommiting even though it feels like you're playing safe with a defender back. By just leaving the ball and going back on defense, you never overcommit. I still think there is some value left on the table when you're just giving the ball away. Anyway, I'd say this is evidence for the hypothesis that we should be a lot more careful on offense.
Love your vids
I think its less about counter attacks being good and more about overcommits being bad. If you focus on counters and defense, you force the enemy to make the outplay which becomes inherently more likely to lead to an overcommit while simultaneously reducing or eliminating the chance that your team over commits. Gotta pick the right battles. Good video man!
Awesome!
I luv ur vids so much best rl content creator
I think it's also more about the balls momentum up through the field ,when the ball gets to the opponents corner it kinda dies and maximizes risk for commiting
Back passes are there to fix it thankfully

I have always been stuck in mid C2 territory until now, just ranked up from C2 to C3 using this in a day, it´s insane!
Wesley was beastin! wp you guys, I like this proof of concept =D
I think that what you just described is much much bigger than that. I am not a good player whatsoever (I range from champ 1 to diamon 2-3), so I play with people whose playstyle is far from perfect (as you described it in other videos, it is unbalanced), and I have noticed that many of them blame me for losing because I have not the mechanical expertise without realizing that (in many ocassions) the problem is that, in general terms, mechanical "superiority" is not enough to compensate a lack of positioning + the other's team capacities + my mistakes (which all of us do).
In this video, you went for a counter strategy, but that means focusing your attention on position to correctly identify your oportunities. This, at the same time, implies a more solid defense and, as you are more conscious about your partner's positioning, less risky plays. This makes a lot of sense IMHO, because a good positioning implies a better boost management, less unnecessary efforts, an improved team play, etc., being all of them the pillars of the game; while mechanics is just an "extra" (although they should, ideally, go hand in hand). To put a silly example: a 50 km/h straight shot from the midfield (a roller) can be stopped literally by sitting on the goal, but the best pro in the world (extremely good at mechanics) would not be able to stop it if he is taking one of the big boosts at the middle of the field at the moment of the shot. Thus, a better positioning also enhances mechanics, because they can be used in a more efficient manner.
Nice video wayton! I love counter attacks, you get so much space and speed :)
One question, witch controller do you use?
I feel SO POGGERS NOW AHHA. I've been telling my teammates that this will work better than whatever the frick they were doing, and it works so well for u ahah 😅 great video!!!
this is going to be a good vid!
Wayton the 🐐
Waw after watching this I want to try this style of playing out
So glad Wayt on uploaded on my bday
I personally have been using this tactic, but not as extreme in 2s for years because I have bad mechanics but good 1v1 play, it worked in champ 2018-2020 and still works in GC 2020-2022. It's how I got 1640 in S14 and 1520 in 2022 after taking a year break 2020-2021
This reminds me of Flakes road to ssl with all the tactics you used
I wanna see people sit in their half all game in my ranked games now. Thanks Wayton, that is what I've dreamed of
This strategy is great for players like me, I can’t generate any offense, but if I disrupt anything on my half I can score like crazy
This is how play, exclusively.
Nice video!
SHEESH THAT STRAT IS INSANE
Would be interesting to see two seems facing off with this style, I don’t know if it would still be beneficial then, but for the time being it works really well against standard rotations
bro I wish I had a t8 like Toxiic. wholesome, and good.
My cousin and I just went 8 games undefeated near our highest rank using this strat!! The concept seemed simple but as ball chasy players it forced us to recognize and fix some key flaws in our game. Cheers
honest this seems great, ur always back to defend while being able to take shots when they over commit. so the old saying becomes true once more: the best offence is a good defence :)
Great video guy, one question - wats crl? I see it in your title.
Explains the 1v2 meta that pros use in 2v2. It’s just extremely valuable having someone back to start a counter attack.
This is precisely why I always played 3s whether randoms or in a team. 2s are way too much about either counter-attacks or 2on1's, any time either one happens it's pretty much a guaranteed goal unless someone in the match can't shoot worth a damn.
After watching this video an hour ago
I took to my 1s replays and it also follows a similar pattern excluding kickoffs
Most goals as a c1 for me or the opponent comes from counterattacks
Everytime “Let’s Go” is said you gotta drink.
Poor Toxiic is gonna be a RLCS analyst at this point with all the strats he knows now.
seriously
Been trying to win a diamond tournament with randoms for 3 months, needless to say it didn’t usually turn out to well due to lack of comms and failed rotations, just kind of decided to stay a permanent 3rd man, allowed me to save lots of goals and also counter attack a lot, using this tactic it took me about a week of grinding tournaments to finally get a diamond tourney dub
I feel you. Diamonds do NOT rotate. In fact, I honestly didn't start seeing any form of reliable rotations until C2
Making them forfeit every game is a excellent strategy. Great video.
You should do more gameplay of your game Wayton, they are fun and we can also learn from how u play.
3:24 BACK POST WAYTON!!
The TW blueprint in the end is just the cherry on top
I’m trying this out!!!
Ooh nice
i actually did the same strat this season and got to gc for the first time so it also closes the skill gap
Playing from the errors of the others is the best thing, that’s why I do it a lot and managed to get to champ without having any mechanical skill
Counter attacks have been all my ways of playing from plat1 to c1 lol in those ranks people just whiff too much. Interesting that also works ina more sophisticated way on high ranks :p
1:07 I do this constantly. In 1s, 2s and 3s
wow, as I commented on the previous video, flakes actually knows his stuff. powerslide cuts to the ssl!
I saw the same thing a couple of months ago when watching replays, went from gold 3 to diamond 2-3 without knowing how to aerial and only basic ball control and then champ 1 when I started learning aerials. Currently champ 3 and gc1 and the strat isn't as OP because I can't keep up mechanically :(
Games are also incredibly boring though because you're effectively waiting for a mistake and opening, these guys were pushing a little more than they shouldve for more content but actually employing this strat is grueling
We main 2s with my friend in low champ now but we give this a try 😀 thank you for the idea
Wow
nice
your tips help me get to champ 2 when i was d2
I love how you always put that sound effect of money when one of u scores.
do you stil use the pro routine from a previous video
9:14 went full goofy
This is how I run 2s, a lot of players d not rotate with me ): ]: very good strategy.
jesus that fake flick from toxiic was soooo clean
i've kind of more or less been doing this. drawing them in on our side and then they get cocky about it. get a decent clear and it's basically a guaranteed goal. now solo queueing, it would be nice if my teammate would understand that.
i literally play like this a bit passive, for mistkes enemy making even in solo 2s or 3s and just trying to counter attack with my precise flicks, this is the way i got gc title and even gc 2 all seasons i played since s14 i got 5 titles overall every time i went for it. Good video, keep up! loved it!
thanks for flexing on me
Alternative title: Passing and chemistry is OP
Wayton I need help with the flip reset I can get my wheels on the ball consistently, but for some reason I don't get the reset could you give me some advice?
Thanks to your vid’s I went from a plat to champ
nice vid. did you end up getting to gc2
this is from now on gonna be the new 2s meta im calling it rn
you should do a video where u try this strategy but do a routine with it, then try to get a 10 for 10
game changer
Wayton are you going to the spring major in London?
I think part of this isn't so much counter attacking so much as it is baiting out the 2nd man into a break away. If 2nd man is never baited out then this doesn't work. Thinking about it this way shows at what scales it can be applied. You can bait 2nd man out in the other team's third and get a goal from it.
nice video :D
Gonna be honest, counterattacks are just easier to score because the defense isn’t ready. I don’t think it’s a revolutionary idea to only go for them, but I do think that when you don’t have mechanical skills as high level as your opponents, it can definitely help level the playing field.
Because despite their skills, most players are dumb as hell and will overcommit in the offensive zone and let you counter on them with an odd man break
Miyagi-do of rocket league
I don't remember which youtuber said it but, rocket league is about not getting scored on more than your opponent, defence is the way to go. Also, I noticed a few days ago in 1v1s that people pretty much only go for the counter attacks and drop back a lot as soon as you start to defend.
Missed opportunity for a Mortal Kom at sound bite. XD. If you know you know!
I was Sorano™️, ggs man
Thanks so much. i went from d2 div4 to d3 div3 in like a hour, Champ soon!?
In my games, EVERY goal starts in the other half 5 seconds before hahahaha
You could say that you were mostly punishing the enemy's mistakes, which is done pretty often in a lot of competitive games.
I did this tactic with my friend in 2s I was d3 at the time now im champ 1 div. Thanks for showing the tactic in play and keep the great content up!
BSU? My guy is a CRL contender?! I had no clue. That is awesome. Which school, you with Boise?
Nice video, seems like a fun strat!:)
As someone who has never gotten past GC1div4 I think your gameplay looks like you could be at a higher rank. Maybe I’m just getting bamboozled by it being in a well edited video. Haha or maybe you downranked to get some easier ops for the strategy vid?😅
Rocket league is the best. Good video!
4th game I think showed that if the opposition are too passive you can be as passive yourself and 5th game didn't seem as countery... Lots of goals with one or 2 in net... Probably good for overall discipline and not over extending on offense though
I wanna see this on 3s
