    Thanks Brian, I see a couple of short comings on this mower, The deck is independent from the engine (belt alignment) The platform is behind the wheels rather than between (center of gravity for traction), and the wheel issues you have pointed out. It looks like the cut is excellent though....

    I ran Toro Grandstands for 5 yrs....until I tried the SRSZ2. Tried the new gen Grandstand, and SRSZ2. Like you said the hydraulics on that mower are stiff, compared to the silky smooth ferris. It cut cleaner through Johnson grass without double cutting also.
    It seems like it’s a more stable solid mower compared to the modified walk behindish Grandstand.
    It also costed me a lot less than the high priced Grandstand. $15,000 out the door for 2 on Ferris, versus $17,000 plus tax for 2 on Toro.

    The broom you could us during the Winter snow removal on your big sidewalks, cleans better than a plow, duel purpose. Just giving it the additional props where it is deserved. The Ferris cuts better. The Wright is better on slops and softer ground.

    I have a Toro Z-master 3000 and can relate to the hand control stiffness. I had to move the dampers to the softest/least resistance setting as it was wearing my hands out after 2-3 acres of large lot mowing. Something that helps on cutting high grass is to adjust the deck baffle. Did you have it opened all the way? Not getting over a curb would be a pain. Great unbiased review! Thanks!

    Looks like a great mower man. Nice to hear the throttle back before kicking on the PTO that not a lot of other guys around me do, to the misery of their belts (and they make sure you can hear it lol) I would definitely like to see some of the other attachments they have as I think it could end up being a very versatile machine.

      Growing up on a farm I was taught to always engage the PTO at a low rpm. Less shock to the parts, equipment will last much longer.

    Most units now days are made generally around the same quality, each manufacturer has its claim to fame for its most durable design of certain parts however at the end of the day it’s mostly about maintaining your equipment. Any unit one buys new and maintains according to manufacturers specifications should last a decent amount of hours. The problem is most people do not understand what actually taking care of a unit is. Once we switched from cast iron cylinders to aluminum it is very vital to run clean fuel, always change your air filters to prevent dirt ingestion, and change the oil once it looses its viscosity. If you do all of the above you should get long life out of any mower. Best recommendation for what to buy is not about what cuts best or whatever, pick a brand that you have a Reliable dealer that is conveniently near you, that’s the most vital part. That’s why John Deere sucks, equipment quality is normal, however getting parts can be a nightmare even on newer equipment. Also honestly I think cut quality is partially a marketing scam, I have a Toro from 1998 and a snapper from 1965 and they both cut as good as any of my zero turns or walk behinds I own. 😀 good luck picking!

    we have eleven stand on mowers, ten are Toro Grandstands. weak link is the front forks are weak. We do a lot of medians and getting on-off curbs with traffic buzzing by you, the forks get bent at the lower bearing from impacting the curb. If the forks were wider the new tweel tire in the front may absorb a lot of the impact!

  • @LansingLawnServiceLLC

    I use a toro multiforce as my main mower. It stripes very well for not having any rollers like the scab has. As far as jumping curbs 1) you have to raise the deck all the way up before trying to jump a curb. I do feel the wheels could be bigger. 2) in your tall grass test you went way faster with toro than you did with the other mowers that you have done it on. So it was not an equal, true test. I would also like to see you take the exmark through the tall grass.

    • @BriansLawnMaintenance
      @BriansLawnMaintenance  6 років тому +3

      We went slow and fast. It wasn’t doing any justice going any slower. The grass was bent over. Just like the Husqvarna. And the deck was raised all the way up and in the locked position. No way was that my fault. The mowers wheels are just flat out too small. Both front and back.

    I use a 48 in grandstand everyday at work.
    Pros- Leaves nice stripes. Controls are simple. Fairly quick and agile.
    Cons- Handle controls are too small/narrow. My hand slips off turning around doing y turns and they are hard to keep straight on bumpy lawns in order to leave straight lines. You have to go slower than you should need to. Too light/center of gravity. Going up steep hills the front end comes off the ground. Good luck on wet hills or slopes cause that baby is gonna slide. Oh you also bounce up and down a lot on bumpy lawns

    Thanks so much for the review on the Toro! Probably not the mower for me either. I used to run a Toro Z Master zero turn that I liked pretty well. Currently running a couple of Gravely Pro Stance 52's with original X Factor deck. Not too impressed with the cut quality. Hoping you do a demo of the 2018 Gravely Pro Stance with the X Factor 2 deck. I heard the cut quality was improved. I'm liking the scag V ride 2 and the ferris so far. Stay hydrated!

    Brian, I think that this mower makes for a good second mower for a lawn care company (I.E.-when the main mower is in the shop, when your first mower is a zero-turn & it is still a little bit soft outside for the weight of a zero-turn, the attachment items are needed to handle a job, etc.).

    I am new to your site and have 30 years commercial experience. I have run the Exmark, Toro Z riding mowers as well as grandstands. The Toro deck seems to do better in wet grass and the striping is better if the discharge is not wide open. In St Louis people seem to run more Exmark.

    My company runs all Grandstands Model # 74513 60" 25 Hp EFI "Mowing Only" no attachment available not like the Multi-Force. 1st the distribution of cutting power varies between the two models, not going to lie I changed out the blades, standard ones not a fan, I run X Blade System. The benefit is we run them hard all day everyday, little to no major maintenance, ours climb curbs no problem with lots of power, agreed the multi-force lacks. We tend to service more commercial than residential, very large properties, the platform after running all day much easier on the body than competitor models, I've owed Scag, Walker, Ferris etc. none compare to low maintenance costs like the Toro, much rougher on the body too, which lowers efficiency if machines fatigues your crews. Overall I find great bang for your buck, Toro Standard Grandstands (Not Multi-force, which we own as well for Winter attachments etc.)very good value for the money. Recap: Durability, Cost, Low Maintenance, Fuel savings, Cut quality, easy to get parts etc.; Just my 2 cents hope this was helpful cheers.

    LMAO, my admin watched your video because we just ordered a multiforce for the winter and she didn't understand what the unit was. She jumped on line and went to watch a couple of videos and stated to me, " did you see that guys video when he tried to jump a curb with the mower deck down", yep, i re-review and it was down the WHOLE time. Like I stated before, thanks for the great laugh!

      Bro pick the deck up ....it hurts my ears to hear you grinding on that curb! All you have to do is go backwards and bump the curb just a tiny bit and you hop right over every time. Also, to judge cut quality on pasture grass more suited for a bush hog is not super helpful. Its like saying "this screwdriver doesn't make a very good hammer". Congrats to Ferris for being a better bush hog, we cut lawns.

    I still don’t like the fact that we aren’t seeing the more common models being tested. Like the 52, 48 decks that the majority of the lawn care community uses. I do love the videos and the feedback is great!!! But, the grandstand is more popular and the tech has been perfected. I hope to goodness that we don’t see the monster wright w the dual drive wheels! Lol. Does this make sense or is it just me?! :) thanks Brian.

    Machine looks pretty cool , was disappointed at the quality of the cut going through tall grass, I have a 30 acre property, which consists of slope and bit of flat areas, I do have small rocks coming up through ground, I ended up purchasing a AS Motor 901 flai walk behind, yes it is a pain in the butt walking behind but the cut quality going through tall grass is very good and not to mention going through thick brush is a breeze, also it's slow but I'm yet to find something that could handle the terrain of my property, awesome video very informative, keep up the good work👍👍

    Love the video. It must be nice to be able to demo the best. I purchased a multiforce nov. 2019. We wanted it for snow. With the blade. Got the 52" inch deck. Long story about the engine. It somehow got water in the oil. So it would run like crap. Last 2 snowfalls we used it for it worked great. Not sure what the issue is. Its at the dealer now. They were to talk to kohler and we all thought it best that they have the machine there for reference. Have you known anyone to run it in cold weather? Have you heard of any engine issues? We work at some pretty chilly temps.

    • @TheKevfromcanada
      @TheKevfromcanada 2 роки тому

      I’ve had two cold weather issues. The breather hose into the fuel pump ices up, and there’s a three prong electrical connection on the front of the engine, moisture gets in there and corrodes the pins, causing the battery to not recharge properly during use in Edmonton winters. Both can be fixed with a little ingenuity, but are really annoying when coming from an engineering department as big as toro.

    I ran Toros because of the dealers in my area, but based on the reviews you have done, I liked the SCAG first, and the Ferris second. It seemed like you had the same impressions.
    It's going to come down to dealer, as usual. I think Toro isn't pushing it as far as making major forward progress. Resting on their laurels maybe. And the tall grass cut was as bad as the Husq.
    The engine was also tuned poorly. It was searching while idling when you first turned it on, and it sounded bad overall, but not as bad as the Husq.
    No jumping the curb is just bad engineering, like when Ford had trucks you couldn't wear a cowboy hat in. That was just sad.

    Can you do a video on the pros and cons of stand on vs sit down zero turns? I have always used sit downs but I see more people going to stand on. Thanks

    I'm going to have to find a stand on in my area to try out, I've never been on one and just looking at them I would think they would be uncomfortable especially on long days?
    BTW I just discovered your channel and have been enjoying watching some of the demo videos.

    It’s a Toro you got To expect the height hype but truly they are not made for tall grass as you Show us.my question is the cut quality on your residential Lawns if that’s not perfect then the machine is not worth it however it being a Fourseason machine with attachments in all here in Canada sounds like it’s going to be around 35 to 40 K

    Great review! I like my Toro but fell it could use some improvements as well. Will you be reviewing the Scag Cheetah? Also have you considered the cub cadet commercial line? I believe its called the pro z series. Obviously it wouldn’t make sense if you don’t have a dealer in town but I was wonder if you took it in consideration. Thanks for the videos!

    It's obvious you didn't care for this mower, the tall grass tests are not even fair. No one can mow that grass in a single pass. It would take 2 or 3 passes at different settings to make it look uniform, plus you said yourself you'd never mow like that in day to day work. The Toro didn't stripe well, but then that has a lot to do with the way you're mowing doesn't it? Brian, do you not have Kubota dealerships in Michigan? They seem to be very high end mowers in Oklahoma and very durable. My Kubota gives a wonderful cut still, and it's a 1998 model!

    • @BriansLawnMaintenance
      @BriansLawnMaintenance  6 років тому +1

      There’s Kubota here but, I only see tractors, not many mowers. The unit did stripe (my last 2 lawns where I was blowing them off) decently. But I just wasn’t over impressed with the cut quality. Not bad. Just not overly impressed.

    I'm not sure of what a true feel you can get from a one day test drive. If you use it for another day or two I would like to hear a final evaluation from you.

      I agree but, I know what to look for. It doesn’t take but a handful of hours for me to know a unit front to back. I’ve used what 3 or 4 units now. I can tell the difference between units very quickly, their pros and cons.

    I was told by several different mower mechanics to stay away from Wright, and Toro. They cut corners and aren’t nearly as tough as scag, Ferris, etc..

      Top Comment I’m only speaking from my own experience. My first grandstand went 2800 hrs , didn’t replace any belts till 2600. My new has 400 hrs , no issues . I also have a toro Titan z turn 1390 hrs , little issues .

    • @platinumlawnservice

      Im a small engine repair mechanic who works at a shop and we also sell toro among other brands. I will tell you from experience i see fewer toro mowers coming in for repairs than anything. Mostly john deere and walker stuff for major repairs. Also Dixie and off brand stuff seems to come in a lot. Don't see ferris here and the few scags around don't come into our shop if theyre breaking down. Exmark and Toro mostly for routine maintenance and wear parts. Also ill say we don't see a lot of stander mowers yet. most crews are still runings sit downs and walk behinds. Only a very small fraction running stand ons. It will be interesting to see if its a fad or if they actually stick around for the long haul. Say 10-15 years from now. Looks awfully uncomfortable to run all day vs sitting.

      I would disagree I seen toro mowers with significantly more hours than any other mower, they seem to last forever. I've seen some grandstands with 10k hours on craigslist.

    • @cutting_for_christ672
      @cutting_for_christ672 6 років тому

      Well you might see fewer toros because they aren’t nearly as popular as scag and other brands. I was also told scag is by far easier to work on then most brands.

    Brian I would ask Exmark when their X-Series Vantage are going to be out. I know it's the same company to an extent but the Vantage seems to be a better mower than that Toro honestly. I'm itching to get a stand-on but it has to be a 36" due to the fact that I have too many fenced yards. I wish I could get like you and not get any fenced yards and make my production better and uniform. So pester the crap out of Weingartz and see about that X-series Vantage. I'm presuming they're re-doing the product as the only thing available is the S-series. The Exmark units seem engineered better than the Toro though IMO.

    So long story short, my wife is paralyzed from waist down, was in a car accident 4 years ago and she is bugging the crap out of me for me to teach her to mow, I'm nervous cause I'm afraid she might fall off or something, but we are going to try and fashion a chest strap to hold her in/on, she has no idea how to stripe or anything, but she wants to help out with the business, and honestly it would be fun to see her mow and I know it would give her a little more sense of freedom. I so wish we had a 4 wheeler she wants one of those too and frankly so do I! Just don't have the funds for that yet, paying off a brand new mower. Brian what is your full name, I'd love to be able to find ya on FB or Instagram! I seriously watch every new video you put out, always alot of fun, in fact I'm doing my own channel now, pretty cool and lots of fun! Well have a good day Brian!!!

    Brian, for a person looking to start doing lawns, how wide of a cut do you recommend for your large and small walk behind mowers respectively? Would you also recommend a bagger to vac leaves for fall cleanup comung later in the season this year?

    BRIAN , PUT THE RUBBER FLAP UP SO YOUR NOT TRYING TO MULCH THE GRASS!
    On the Ferris you had a chute blocker open so no obstruction besides you were blowing the grass the whole time into other tall grass when mowing super tall grass I always farmer mow .

    Good video! Disappointment was felt. Stripes so so, obstacle climbing no good, tall grass no good, lean pad no good, blower showfer good, deck handle placement no good. Eeehhh lets put back on the shelf and get some green paint! 👍

  • @davislandscaping1107
    @davislandscaping1107 6 років тому

    First off, pick the deck up when you go up a curb, that's not the mowers fault. Secondly my multiforce goes right up curbs, you just go up front casters first by giving it throttle at the same time you bounce down and then the rear wheels roll right over. This mower is far better than you made it out to be. We put 600 hours on ours in the first year and had zero problems and it cuts like butter. I sold all four exmarks and bought three toro grandstands and they slaughter my turf tracer, vantage and lazer z's. They are simply lighter, faster, and better built machines.
