Spinner fishing for mahseer. 5kg Copper Mahseer! Fishing in Teesta river, Sikkim.

Had gone fishing to one of my favourite spots on the Teesta river. The monsoon this year was quite long and extended. So i was not sure about the river conditions. I had a feeling i was too late, as i had already missed the run at Rangit river. That too by a mere 2-3 days, which was my actual planned date but had to change as my friends weren't available to fish those dates.
So i set off that morning not knowing what awaits me. As i made my way on foot to the river i could see that the small stream was clear. It was a good sign. However 10 mins into fishing, the small stream started turning murky. So i headed downstream to the pool. It didn't look good. There was a person who had setup 4 baited hand-lines across the bank. I had half a mind to return, but i thought i might as well give it a try since i was already there. It took about 90 mins of casting before i got the bite. I had already turned off my GoPro as i wasn't hopeful of catching anything. The bite came so suddenly and strong, it took me by complete surprise. The fish just took off with no signs of stopping. I was pretty sure it was a Golden Mahseer.
I guess all i can say is that i am glad i was patient that day. Got my personal best Copper Mahseer weighing 5Kgs. Also my biggest fish so far.

Thanks! Yes it's a very good size for our rivers, especially on an artificial lure. Previously I had never seen this size taken out on a spinner or a plug. Though I had seen a few on dead bait, dough bait and chicken intestines

Why not catch n release bro rivers there are already overfished as it is and considering its masheer
Here in england we can only catch and release by law therefore fish populations are very healthy and can catch them all year around

Khola ma dhunga huncha. Dhunga ma Macha lukcha. So alik lures ra spinners arkincha. U can't avoid that. U will lose a lot of lures and spinners trying to catch fishes in our rivers, as most of the fish tend to stay at the bottom more often than not. With enough time spent on the river u will learn how to retrieve most of the lost lures, and how to try and avoid snags
