Great stories! Thanks for sharing!! Dad has told me stories about the 2 r’s they farmed with. 1 broke a crank at idle. They got it fixed and kept using it. They are both still on the home farm where he grew up. Have a great day!!

I love how well your family documented events with photos. That's rare. Great video as always!

1978 or '79, John Hileman was featured in Farm Journal with his Modified Tractor. The real hey day of Pulling, when anyone could take a tractor and tune it up in different ways to win. Turn up injection pump, start adding turbo's, or maybe swap in big block gassers. I was a kid that wanted to drop a blown 454 into a 3010 that was near the end of its life, everything was worn out on it. But it was what kids dreamed about doing. I never have hooked a sled, when I had the $, I didn't have the time. When I had the time, I didn't have the $. Glad you got to do it, and you have made a bit of a career of tuning up pullers. Thanks, Bill. I'm not ragging on you about Staunton this time!😂👍👍

Hey Bill. Hope your week has been good. I enjoyed all of these stories, from back in the day. It’s funny that you started pulling, with a R. I love the R. It’s a beast of a tractor and is still stout today. Hope you all have a great weekend. It’s turned pretty chilly, down here in North Carolina. Stay safe and we will catch you later. 👍😎💪

Great story! Love the pics! My dad had the first R in our neighborhood when I was just a little shaver way back in 1962. He paid $4000 dollars for it. He traded in the S Case that he bought from my grandpa. That was a big investment for a young 26 year old farmer just getting started back then. Wow! Was that something! All the neighbors came to see it! His dad thought he was crazy. I remember gradpa saying "I don't know why you need such a big tractor". Lol! Then he bought a four bottom plow, packer and press drill. First four bottom in the neighborhood. People came just to watch him plowing with that "big outfit". And I remember him saying that it held like 18 or 20 gallons of fuel, and you had to work from sunup to sundown if you wanted to burn a full tank of fuel. Diesel fuel was .19 cents per gallon. I remember he always put a juice can on the muffler in case it would rain if he left it outside overnight, and I would love when he started it. He would warm up the pony engine, then when he would pull the first lever to start the main engine that can would fly waaay up in the air on that first pop, and I would try and catch it on the way down. I loved riding along on it. My spot to sit was by the fender on the opposite side of the fuel tank. After a few years, the whole neighborhood was popping with R's out in the fields. I can still hear them all. Pop pop pop pop. A puff of black smoke with every pop when they were pulling hard. Then, my dad traded the R for an 830 and a five bottom plow, packer and drill. Holy crap! Everyone came again to see that monster! Lol! Wow, those are some great memories. How I would love to go back to those days. Those R's were, and still are a really nice looking tractors. Thanks for taking me back Bill!

Thanks for sharing the video and stories Bill. Yes sir some really get and got their feelings hurt over pulling. I never won a single class. Had fun with what I had and have now. I've both green and red. I've had my 1066 picked a part at a stock pull and it was stock nothing done and they were checking the tractors over and I have the stock turbo that came on it and the one guy said yes it looks stock and I got whipped and they had a 4240 with a turbo in the same class and John Deere didn't sell them from the factory. Lol. Hope y'all are doing well and I hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving.

Bit of a tall tail by the Ford guy to get 180 hp. Takes a fair amount to add 100 extra horsepower. Pump maxed out will get 110hp max. I really like your commentary. Keep the videos coming.

@ we run a built 7000, custom pump, injectors, better turbo and cam. Not at 180 yet, but trying and the kids have fun at the pulls so its fun. I really like watching what you and your boys do.

I pulled my 2240 in the 5000 farm stock class and whooped a guy with a 460 farmall. He was HOT. Said no way! I told him we could have a grudge pull off but he had to put some money up. He left.
