Sarah Smiles was written by Brendon for (his wife since 2013) Sarah. They met at the Pretty. Odd. Tour. Brendon has said that he was giving up on ever finding the one for him just weeks before he met Sarah. They started talking and he really liked her, but he then found out that she had a boyfriend. They met again 8 months later, and they were both single at that time and they started a relationship.
Ooooh, I love these songs. The Ballad of Mona Lisa was awesome to see live, the music video is cool too, I saw something about it being about duality in human minds, facade and motives. Let’s Kill Tonight is another favorite of mine, and oh yeah! Dallon Weekes(the bassist that joined this album) once had to sing for them because Brendon had food poisoning(Dallon really has a great voice, he has his own band now(had another, The Brobecks, before) but now he’s touring as the front-man of I Don’t Know How But They Found Me), but he accidentally said “clap your feet and clap your hands” 😂 I usually accidentally do too though... Hurricane, I’m not sure if you’ve seen or not, but Brendon was brought up in a Mormon household, he decided it wasn’t for him, but he’s respectful of it and is heavily influenced(I mean...Pray For The Wicked) Memories kind of sounds like: Behind These Hazel Eyes by Kelly Clarkson and Hanging by a Moment by lifeboat(?) they’re just random bits of melody, but I keep thinking of those songs!! The lyrics are great though Ready to Go was fun to see live too, it has a cool musical-inspired music video Always is such a sweet song, isn’t it? There’s a video out there of him performing this live with acoustic guitar, but I think that’s the only recording of it performed live. And Sarah Smiles, Sarah is his wife now(wasn’t when he wrote this!) I did a cover of this song for my American Sign Language Class last year, not the best filming, but I got 100%! Ahhh, Nearly Witches, I love it too! As always, your interpretations are amazing, I love the connections you make between songs(and personally, I especially love the vocabulary of the songs too) Anyway, just my random comments, thanks for reading if you did!
Here are those songs Hanging by a Moment-Lifehouse ( ua-cam.com/video/Ynbr7n_0OmQ/v-deo.html ) My Life Would Suck Without You-Kelly Clarkson ( ua-cam.com/video/ZkVmrmg2tJM/v-deo.html ) and the chorus of Behind These Hazel Eyes-Kelly Clarkson ( ua-cam.com/video/Cn15ACWv0EQ/v-deo.html )
Oh and I had really hoped you would be doing the bonus tracks/demo tracks as well! They are definitely some of my favourites! They are: Kaleidoscope Eyes Stall Me Oh Glory I Wanna Be Free Turn Off The Lights Bittersweet They are all soo good!
Please react to Panic! at the Disco’s Karma Police live in Denver!!! Also Vices and Virtues: Get Me Out of My Mind DVD (it’s like 20 minutes on youtube) which kind of explains Brendon’s and Spencer’s feelings about this album
Oh gosh, I've been waiting for this ever since you said you'd do a reaction. And wow 1h+ of a vid, that's insane, but very appriciated. Thank you for your time!!! This album is everything to me, I love it from top to bottom, left to right - the lyrics, the whole steampunk aesthetics, the atmosphere, the vocals, the instruments, the backing vocals, the melodies, (the pain and the hurt and the depression, and the hope all mixing together, ugh, so good!!!) I just ... honestly, my favorite album ever and one of the bonus tracks is my all time favorite P!ATD song, so I hope you'll do a reaction&analysis of the bonus tracks too. And when you do, I'll drop everything like it's hot potato and rush to watch.
Turn Off The Lights, Bittersweet, I wanna be Free, Stall Me, Oh Glory and Kaleidoscope Eyes are bonus tracks, i wish it was on the standart cause i love them all
Wow...really enjoyed your reaction/commentary! Panic is by far my favorite band (ok technically not a band cause it’s only Brendon now) and IMO their music gets better with the progression of the albums. Know I’m going to get hate for this..but their earlier music I feel isn’t that wonderful. The last 2 albums are fantastic and can’t wait until you reach those to react to. I highly recommend you try to see Panic live because Brendon is an awesome entertainer and I feel the live versions are even better than the studio tracks (if that’s even possible). If not, I recommend you watch All My Friends We’re Glorious: Death of the Bachelor concert...it is a full concert that was taped live so you can see what I am talking about (maybe after you react to the album...the concert is all here on UA-cam). I just saw him at the Houston Rodeo earlier this month and it was AMAZING!!! I am adding the link below about their time at the rodeo that they posted that shows behind the scenes and small clips of the concert. They usually do this for the majority of their tours (at least here recently). It is nice to see their perspective..plus Brendon is hilarious!!! 😂😂😂ua-cam.com/video/3bum52oHsvQ/v-deo.html
Great reaction. You really made me listen to this with a new ear. And yes to the bonus tracks. I love your reactions and I’m looking forward to Too Weird.
I really do like your reaction bro. You really try to do your best at giving an explanation of each song based on the lyrics and then try to get the concept of the album. Your videos may be long but they’re pretty enjoyable. Please, make the fourth album Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die!, 🙏🏼🙏🏼. it’s my favorite and it has a pretty different sound from the rest (you’ll find it out)
Great vid! You never disappoint. Idk if this is appropriate timing, with "Pretty.Odd" 's bday and you listening to 1st post-split album, but I think you should listen to The Young Veins' (Ryan and Jon's band) "Take a Vacation!". It was released in 2010 and they made a Deluxe version I believe this year(?) I personally enjoyed it but it'd be nice for you to see how it went for Ryan and Jon.
i just came across your channel and within the first 5 minutes or so i realized that i should subscribe to you. even though you don't have the most amount of subscribers, you still put in the effort as if you do and i really appreciate that. you receive the support you deserve and you have all my support. keep up the great work! 😁😁
Great reaction as always, Matt! I love how indepth you go with your analysis! I know you're doing the panic discography right now, but for future reference I think you'd really like the album Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie!
You found another subscriber here. I love your reaction and especially your insights and analysis. Hope you will do the Bonus Tracks, because they are really amazing. Also hope you will do the other albums. Brendon really starts coming into his own as an artist starting with Vices and Virtues and all the albums are really different and experimental. If your are interested, maybe react to Brendon Urie‘s Best Live Vocals by Popcrush or his cover of Bohemian Rhapsody from the Death of a Bachelor Tour? As amazing as the albums are, hearing him live is such an experience
Dallon Weekes was bassist for this album and he was with Panic for a few years (mostly as touring bassist, but also contributed to some of the music). He's now part of a band called I Don't Know How But They Found Me. Would love to see your reaction to that album.
First reaction I’ve watched of yours and I like how you take time to explain the messages and make connections to other songs on the albums. Definitely think I’ll watch more Panic! reactions! :)
Awesome reaction as always, Matt! I saw Panic! live for the second time last week! They played Mona Lisa and Ready To Go from Vices and it was incredible as expected :) I really hope you get a chance to see them live at some point, it's just so damn cool!
Thank you! I don’t have a background in music, though I do have a small background in Film which helps me I believe. Also, I started learning guitar again about 2 years ago and that also helps quite a bit!
I prefer all their albums from this one and forward. Just because you can tell how Brendon is more in his comfort zone. He gets to use more of his voice and sound wise it’s more characteristic of Brendon’s persona.
You should react to Marianas Trench’s album Astoria. It is an amazing concept album with a great story and even better songs. If you like Panic! You would like Marianas Trench.
Jon Walker and Ryan Ross left because they wanted to do something different with music. They created a band together called The Young Veins. The band only lasted about a year. Ryan Ross continues to make music, I'm not sure but I know that he made a song with Zberg.
Sarah is Brendon's wife. He wrote this song to win her over.

Dallon Weekes, the bassist was also in the album cover. He's in the back with mask.
Oh wow I thought that was just a statue or something 😂
Speaking of Pretty Odd, it was its 11th birthday yesterday ☺️
Happy belated, Pretty. Odd. ! 😀
Ugh Hurricane and Nearly Witches are my faves, such cool arrangements

Well I know what I'm spending the next hour doing😊 thanks for this!
Btw you NEED to watch the "ready to go" music video. It is probably my favorite panic video because of the concept.
YOU MISSED MY FAVORITE SONG ON THE ALBUM!!! “Turn Off The Lights”

You seem to know so much, so cool to listen to 😄

There are a couple of bonus songs as well. I like this review
This is probably panics most depressing album
please react to panic! at the disco's next three albums too. Too weird to live, too rare to die and death of a bachelor and pray for the wicked.
sarah smiles is the best song on here for sure
This is definitely my favorite album but…I wish I could travel back in time and convince Ryan to stay😭 even if it meant losing Brendon instead

Can you react to 360 - Tiny angel
Please please react to the newer three albums!
This isn’t a full album reaction. There’s 6 bonus tracks and they’re arguably better than most of the album production-wise
